Omega General Help / Key Fob
« on: 20 June 2009, 15:13:17 »
Can someone please tell me if replacing the battery on a 96 omega elite's Key Fob is just a matter of out with the old one, and in with the new one. Or is there more to it than that. I have just done this only to find that the fob is still not working.
It started to play up for the first time last night, but after a few more presses it finally opened the car.
However, this morning it didn't work at all, so i put it down to needing a battery change, as i havent yet done this since owning it.
Any advice please.

Omega General Help / engine rattle
« on: 25 March 2009, 12:22:34 »
I have just carried out an oil change but unfortunately, i made the mistake of using 15w/40 oil instead of 10w/40 which i now believe to be the correct oil that i should have used.
Could this mistake of mine be the reason for the loud rattle that has now appeared since the oil change.
I'm suspecting that the hydraulic lifters are what is behind the noise.
Am i on the right track, or am i barking up the wrong tree?

Omega General Help / Steering
« on: 22 March 2009, 17:39:51 »
I have just finished fitting a new pair of front wishbones, and a new steering idler due to excessive movement.
Having done this, i still find that there is some movement at the steering idler, and after taking the car for a small test drive, I cant say that i'm happy with the feel of the steering.
I was hoping that the steering would have been alot firmer once the work was done but it feels very vague.
Should i wait until the tracking and alignment etc has been checked properly by a specialist, or is there something more that i should have done?
Should i expect some movement at the idler, or should it be solid?  :-/

Omega General Help / Re: Auxillary Drive Belt

Yeh, i agree.
It definately runs down from the power steering, around the air con, across to the crank, loops up around the coolant pump, back down around the alternator, and up to the tensioner.

Omega General Help / thermostat bolt hole
« on: 15 March 2009, 21:08:25 »
After removing the old thermostat from my V6 elite, and all of the old gasket sealant. i proceded to replace with a new thermostat, and refill  the cooling system. i was disappointed when i discovered the system leaked.
I discovered that the leak was coming from the new thermostat housing, so i removed it believing that i had somehow mangled the O-ring whilst fitting it. In actual fact, the leaking coolant was coming from one of the thermostat bolt holes in the engine block.
I inspected the hole in question to see if the were any tell tale signs of a botched DIY job of some sort, but the hole is the correct size and the thread seems to be original.
I dealt with the problem by using plenty  of sealant around the whole of the thermostat mating surface including the bolt holes and the bolts themselves.
I was just curious if this is common.

Omega General Help / Head Gasket
« on: 08 February 2009, 17:58:33 »
hello guys, can anybody tell me if i can get a head gasket kit for one side of a V6 only, or should i expect to have to buy a whole kit for both sides. i only need to replace the left side, and i,m not intending to do the right side for no reason. It would seem like a bit of a waist to buy something that only half of is going to be used.
many thanks :)
