Thanks for the tips,
Myself and my partner have had a look at the Cam belt and it seems to be intact and not jumped any teeth, although we couldn't look at the bottom as we didn't know how the cover came off. We took the aux belt off and he says you can turn the air con pump, alternator etc by hand.
We even tried to bump start it but as soon as I dumped the clutch the car came to an abrupt hault. We even tried it in reverse with no luck.
I'm thinking that the starter may be nackered (only by judging what happened to my other car) as when you turn the key you get a click as if the starter is engaging but nothing happens. I have tried hitting the starter with a hammer but I may not be hitting it hard enough. :-/
Would anyone have any other suggestions that I could try. My patience is wearith thing with it and soon it may be off to the big scrap yard in the sky.
