Thanks

Sounds like a failed switch somewhere - does having the flap open or closed make any difference whatsoever to any controls, messages or button presses?

As the switch behind the flap is always the prime candidate.

Failing that, remove power for one hour, refit, enter code and try again.

If that fails, then probably the magazine detection sensor, but try the other stuff first, as very unlikely for this to have failed.

Opening the flap gives the CDC Open message so will try the power trick and see what happens. Is there a fuse i can take out to save having to disconnect the battery?

Thanks for the help.

If I take the magazine out I get the usual CDC Open message. When I put the magazine back in (full or empty) the unit makes no attempt to read it and just shows the Magazine message.

Its almost like it doesn't recognise that there is a magazine there??

Hi all

Hoping I can get some advice with regards to the Philips CCR2006 head unit in my 2001 Omega (facelift model).

Up until about a week ago I was able to listen to CDs without a problem. However, I changed to the radio for an hour and have not been able to get CDs to play since.

If I press the CD button I just get a message on screen saying 'Magazine'. Pressing the eject button opens the cover but does nothing else. I managed to get the CD magazine out using the eject leaver on teh front of the magazine and checked that there were no CDs stuck or in at a funny angle.

Any ideas if this is fixable? I have tried Google but can only find mention of a 'CDC Safe' message.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Car value advice
« on: 18 August 2010, 10:10:50 »
Hi all

It has come to that time where I need to sell my Omega as OH has just bought a new car and I'm getting her old one.

Thing is, I have no idea what it should be priced at. Its a 2000 (Y) CDX Auto estate with 98k on the clock. Its just had a new battery and brakes and I serviced it 3000 miles ago. Its fully loaded with all leather interior, CD multi changer, climate control, removable tow bar and plastic boot liner. There is a scuff on one side and a tiny bit of rust on the boot lid.

The MOT has just expired and it will be untaxed.

Any guidance would be great.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Oil leak nightmare
« on: 17 May 2010, 21:51:23 »
Hi all

On servicing the car about 6 months ago I found that the plug wells were full of oil. I cleaned this all out, replaced the cam-cover gasket and bought new plugs etc.

Everything seemed to be fine but just recently I have noticed more and more oil appearing on the drive after the car has been run. Had a quick look around and found oil in the pipe going to the air filter box and around the plenum. Removed this all and cleaned it but also saw that there was oil in the exhaust downpipe. I'm hoping this explains the small puff of white smoke on starting(??)

Before I go down the route of stripping off the cam cover again can anyone else make any other suggestions on what else could be worth checking? I have recently carried out an oil change and there was no water in there. Have also checked the other usual spots and can see no oil/water contamination so hope its not the head gasket.

All help gratefully received.

Thanks, will see if I can get one off Ebay.

The other possible cause I've read about is the throttle position sensor, could that cause problems with the gearbox or would I have noticed other issues ??

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Haven't done anything with the fluid just yet but may get my local garage to do this as it looks a bit fiddly and they give me a nice big discount !!

I haven't been able to find a Haynes manual for my car, are there any other guides for removing/cleaning/replacing the selector switch ???

Omega General Help / Auto box problems
« on: 13 July 2009, 10:47:06 »
Hi all,

Yet another problem to seek advice on  :-/

Just recently I've been having some real problems with the automatic gearbox on the car. Issues are as follows:

1. Very strangely timed gear changes. For example, having slowed down for a corner, rounabout etc and then accelerating from about 20mph there will be little response and then suddenly gearbox will kick down a gear giving you whiplash in the process. The accelerator would have been nowhere near fully depressed. Other times it seems to randomly switch from short changing every gear to holding each of them to near the rev limit.

2. Intermittently (although more frequently) seems to get stuck in 3rd gear when put into the Drive position. Can be overridden by manually selecting 1st, 2nd and 3rd but defaeats the point of having an automatic !!

3. (and linked to above) The selection light on the gearbox is not always working. this happens for the Parked, Neutral and Drive positions. When this happens the Sport button doesn't work and, as an aside, the snow button seems to have stopped working altogether.

I'm hoping this isn't going to be expensive but get a gut feeling its going to require a trip to a gearbox specialist. That is, of course, unless someone can provide any other suggestions of what to check.

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Couple more questions

Thanks for the advice.

Are there any guides on cleaning the breather system, or any things to look out for?

The car has the direct ignition so no HT leads, just boots between the coil and sparks.

Omega General Help / Couple more questions

Hi all

Have spent the whole day fixing a leaky rocker cover gasket, including cleaning half a ton of oil out of the spark plug wells where it had leaked internally. I now have some very perished boots on the ignition coil, hopefully they will last until Vauxhall can get some new ones in. Does anyone know anywhere that may be able to get them to me quicker than Wednesday??

Also, does anyone know if it is safe to have the engine steam cleaned? Just want to make sure all the leaks are fixed.

Cheers in advance.

Omega General Help / Passenger airbag
« on: 13 June 2009, 07:52:31 »
Hi all

With new baby due in the next week or so I decided to find out how to turn off the passenger airbag. I spoke to Vauxhall who advised that this cannot be turned off, something I find a bit strange.

Does anyone know of any ways round this that won't cause problems with the MOT/dash lights?

Thanks

Olly

Hi Mat

Did you get this sorted in the end?

I only ask because I have the same on my 2.2i, I'm currently losing a tank full of coolant every day. It looks like it only happens when the cars not running and is coming from the back of the engine bay.

The gear changes have been rather erratic lately as well (its automatic) and I'm wondering if its because coolant has leaked on to the clutch when parked at work.

Cheers

Olly
