In all fairness the car is as new. I'm not looking through rose tinted spectacles, it really is out of the box fresh.
She is the second owner, the first was Buckingham Palace. She got it  with 1200 miles on the clock, it's just not used enough now they're retired, they take the lexus everywhere.
We buy any car offered £7250 and sky ford (Hemel) have offered £8000. They're on the forecourt for £10495 with 12,000 miles on the clock. Wish I had the funds tbh, it's such a nice little car.

I think they'll avoid this company, if it's too good to be true it usually is!

Cheers all

General Car Chat / Feb-autotrader? Anyone know of these people.
« on: 16 February 2014, 12:03:39 »
Hi all

My parents are selling their ford fiesta on auto trader and this morning my dad received this text:

Ford Fies.. still for sale? We can offer £9,500 CASH & collect tomorrow! Visit www.feb-autotrader.com enter PURCHASE ID 667309676

I've googled them and they say they make their money on the finance deals when they sell your car on.

My dad had the car up for £9750 which is over book price, but this is because it basically brand new with 3700 miles on it.

I've said I'd look into it but apart from their website there is no other mention of that company on google.

I'm just a bit cautious, what's the catch.

Opinions please.

General Car Chat / Re: Halfords batteries
« on: 06 January 2014, 08:51:01 »
I've just put a battery on the wife's Toyota Estima 2.2D. £99.99 from Halfords but using my neighbours trade card got it for £69,99. I could gage got one off eBay for £55 but the one I have has a four year warranty and should it fail it will be much less ball ache to take it back to Halfords than send it back to the eBay seller, assuming they're still around!

Quite honestly the classiest and nicest to drive car that we had at Enterprise Rent A Car in the 3 yrs I was there. A lot of the time we would have a car park with a jag, rangie, BMW 530d and a Toureg in, and it was always the Jag that was taken as the chase car, although if the area manager was around then it would have been the Kia Picanto or Hyundai I10!!!

But the way the vents spun around, the gear selector rose out the dashboard and the speed of the paddle shift gearchange when you was getting a move on, wow, what a car!! (Don't forget to hold the chequered flag button down for about 6 seconds to get to proper sports mode with the red dials and even quicker gear change and throttle response!)

General Car Chat / Can Anyone Help With A Halfords Trade Club Price?
« on: 29 December 2013, 21:46:20 »
Evening All
My wifes bus (Toyota Estima) is in need of a new battery, it's an 068 type. My next door neighbour can use his sons trade card to get it if I want but I dont want to waste his time and mine if it turns out to be a lot more expensive than ebay or the like.

Is there any way to find out the price before I accept his generous offer? I have read that if you call them they wont give you t/c price over the phone.

Is there any chance chance someones recently purchased an 068 battery???

Thanks people

Having previously worked for 3 years as a driver for Enterprise Rent A Car I have a load of mileage under my belt driving pretty much every variation of the Insignia and I must admit they are really nice drives. Personally the 160 is the one I'd choose, when new there was only a couple of hundred pounds difference in the price. The extra 30bhp is great to have when you need to overtake.

Front tyre wear is ferocious though, expect 10 to 12k a pair. The newer the better when it comes to build quality, the early 09 and 59 cars creaked from the centre console like crazy but this got a lot better later on. Reliability was never an issue on the ones we had with no recurring faults becoming apparent. Try to get a DAB stereo if you can, well worth it.  Do not under any circumstances be talked into a petrol one, the 1.8 is gutless and does 25mpg and the 1.4 turbo would struggle to break into the low 20's if driven with passion.

All in all though a really good car and for the money well worth it. The mondeo is a bit softer and quieter to drive and one car thats also overlooked is the Seat Exeo, old shape Audi A4, really smart car but really badly built.

Hope this is of some help

Spoke with Santander today as it happens. Having been out of work since January money's tighter than a ducks chuff round here. I live very close to £0 in my account and very occasionally I might just go the wrong side of £0, but never by more than a couple of quid.

Well last month I had £70 disappear out of my account leaving me £69.33 overdrawn. I ran them and admitted that yes I had made an oversight but was there anything they could do, using my nicest, friendliest tone I could muster. Amazingly he looked into my history and saw that I was indeed struggling and agreed to return the charges on a case of financial hardship. He also told me I was due to be charged again in December and that he would cancel those too.

Well today I got charged a further £15 so I called them again and explained what happened. First bloke said hard luck basically, second bloke apologised but said they would not reverse the charge, then getting a bit irate I asked to speak to a manager. He came on and immediately realised they had made a cock up and reversed the charge. It's a pity I had to perservere like that but it shows don't believe what the first oik tells you and if your sure your right then just go straight to the top.

Cheers all

Personally I'm a big fat ugly tinker and I use Paco Rabane Ultrviolet. I can honestly say people  (ladies) come and ask what it is, in a good way, and it was actually the first thing my now wife noticed about me!

Not cheap though.

What I really want to try is Vera Wang. Will Smith uses it and most people that have interviewed him say he smells amazing!

Time to re-engage man mode, spit, burp, fart!!!

I moved out of Boston, Lincs a couple of years back thank god, I'm only 10 miles away in Donington, but have a lot of family there. They evacuated people into the local sports arena. They are now evacuating said sports arena as it is on a flood plain!!!!  Good to know the years of planning have not been in vain!!!

A mate that I used to work with has a house about 200 yds from the main river witham. He spent all day putting everything upstairs and his house now sits in 2 feet of water.

It's amazing to think that the river witham is usually  at least 20 foot below the  bank even at high tide.

General Discussion Area / Re: Froch Vs Groves
« on: 24 November 2013, 14:00:01 »
I watched the whole fight this morning (thanks daily motion ;)) and must say I think corruption is alive and well in boxing!
From the get go Froch was in serious trouble and was put on his a55 in the first round. Then Groves quite literally went to work on him in every round. I would honestly say groves won all but one round, and he won them convincingly, but froch caught him in the 9th and groves wobbled a bit, but he was still defending himself and fighting his way out of it, his guard was still there! But inexplicably the ref jumped in and stopped it!!!
It wouldn't surprise me if the ref had bet the farm that the fight would be stopped in the 9th.
Then after the fight they read out the judges scorecards, one had put groves up by 5 or 6 rounds whereas the other two only had groves up by one round! How can there be such a huge difference?
But for any fans of the art of pugilism then this is a fight to watch, it was brutal, well, groves was!!

General Discussion Area / Re: Tesco Prices
« on: 22 November 2013, 22:48:46 »
Having been unemployed since January I really do take note of the prices. For me Tesco is my most local and as it's out of town compared to the asda and Aldi it is the one I use most. Plus, not wanting to start a race row here, but the Boston asda is, I would say, 70% foreigners. They shop like they drive, incredibly arrogantly and are quite happy to bump you out of the way.

But it's getting ridiculous how they are doubling their prices seemingly overnight.

How can they justify their cheapest squash is now 52p a small (double strength) bottle. This was 23p only a few months ago. Same goes for their cheap baby wipes, 26p jumped to 65p.

And that double strength squash thing is something that's wound me up. They are using less ingredients, less packaging, less transportation costs, less space needed on the shelves so more product able to be sold, plus I bet they sell more as most of us have spent years putting a given amount into a glass and it's not something you just change when your on auto pilot, but have they reduced their prices, have they balls! If anything they've gone up!!!!

But I like millions of others will just roll over and take it, and go deaf when the 6 o'clock news announces a quarterly profit increase into he billions!

Must admit that I use amazon for most of my internet purchases. I think they are fantastic. Prices are usually dirt cheap, most things are delivered quickly (as long as you avoid those that are shipped from Hong Kong) and when things do go wrong the customer service is brilliant. I have never had any cause for complaint!

I find it shows up the bigger high street chains as well with the gross profit they make on most things they sell. The other day I needed a cheap one size fits all mobile holder in my car. Got one off Amazon for £1.69 delivered (within 2 days). Saw exactly the same holder in Asda for £6.00! It just strikes me that supermarkets whilst pretending to be your friend and boasting of keeping costs down, must have a huge mark up on most things they sell!

It's been on there for some time and I reckon it will be for a while. Cracking car still.
Sensible price for a change... one to buy and stick in the garage, a classic in the making if ever there was :y

Unfortunately that's about all you could do with it to maintain its uniqueness. If you buy it and start piling the mileage on it wouldn't be long before it was just another run of the mill Omega! I'd love it though!
