Omega General Help / Engine Operating Temperature
« on: 08 December 2008, 13:47:02 »
Hi,  I'm after some advice.
Hi,
I recently changed from a 2.6 Y reg Omega to a 3.2 52 reg MV6.
My 2.6, when warmed up settled down to run at a steady 85 degrees C, show on the dash temp guage.
The 3.2 initially warms up to about 90 degrees C and will run at about 85 degrees C in town and on short runs.
However on longer runs, typically when cruising on the motorway at about 70 - 75 mph, engine temp, as displayed, drops to 75 degrees C and sometimes to as low as 70 degrees C.
External temperatures when this has happened have been between 1 to 4 degrees C.
Is this normal or should I be looking for a fault on the thermostat ?
regards, TomD

Omega General Help / Exhaust smoke on start up
« on: 19 June 2008, 13:03:20 »
Hi,
I'm after some advice.
Over the last 2 months or so, I have noticed a puff of whitish smoke from the exhaust on start up.
My Omega is a 2001 2.6 petrol, done about 94,000 miles
Any ideas what might be the cause ?.
regards,
Tom

Omega General Help / Coolant Leak
« on: 05 January 2007, 11:37:31 »
Hi,  I am looking for advice on a coolant leak.   Its a Y reg 2.6 Omega close to 80,000 miles.  The initial fix was to replace the heater bypass valve.  However the car is still losing coolant.  The garage has checked and says that the bypass valve change was OK and there is a another leak around the 'vee' area of the engine. This will require some pretty expensive investigation and then repalce of whatever is failing.  My question is - could I live with this and top up the coolant when required - it seems to be a smallish leak - or is this likely to lead to longer term damage (or a sudden complete failure) if I don't get it fixed
regards,  Tom D.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hi from TomD
« on: 29 December 2006, 11:37:49 »
Hi,  I have been an Omega owner for about 8 years, currently a 2.6, previously a 2.0.  I am not 'technical', mainly a 'watcher' but have had helpful advice from the guys on the Yahoo owners forum.
I live in Chesterfield Derbys.
Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonablly priced and good quality maintenance, my experiences with the local main dealer have been pricey and poor.
regards,
Tom
