Ah! That's good then - I was a bit worried when you said that but as one part of the instuctions from Taw Park were wrong, the rest is suspect as well.

As it turns out my wife has gone off in the car so I can't try anything at the moment  ???

It is also dreadful weather outside so more testing will have to put off a day at least :-)

Thanks again for your replies.

Thanks woodoo :y

Will try your suggestion tomorrow (ugh! I mean later today :-)

The combination of red/white and brown I am using at the moment does appear to be an ignition switched supply as it is only live when the ignition is on (not permanently). I don't have much confidence in the scotchlok connectors to be honest. Will play around again though.

I appreciate your help - cheers!

Also i noticed that wiring colors in this link is wrong. Thats the correct vauxhall colors of wiring:
Brown - battery negative
Black - ignition ON 12V
Red/white (on glow plug relay) - battery positive 12V (permanent)!!!

If you connected Hotfix "ignition ON" wire to Red/white then it won't work, you should reconnect it to black wire on ECU!
[/quote]

That's exactly what I have done (following the instructions). I can identify current in the metal bridges on the scotchloks when the ignition is on but nothing at the hotfix end. When the ignition is switched off, there is no power to the scothlok bridges either. There is also a red led in the hotfix unit which I have no idea as to whether it should be illuminated or not.

I will try reconnecting to a black ECU wire and see if that works. I may also have the wrong temp sensor connection by the sounds of it :-(

Thanks!

Andy

I've removed the link as I suspect they are selling ripped off Vauxhall software, and we can't allow discussion of that - sorry. You best bet is probably a Haynes manual - can't go wrong with them going for a fiver or so on Ebay. :y

I think he means the link to the hotfix product and not the manuals Kevin.

Grey/blue means wire must be grey with blue line on it, so make sure you got the correct wire. Also could you give link with your hotfix product. And have you checked glowplugs with tester? You must disconnect wires from glowplugs and check resistance. Glowplugs resistance value Should be around 5 Ω. http://www.ngk-dpower.com/index.php?id=31&L=2
Injectors may also cause poor starting.

Ah! That's useful! To be absolutely honest, this wire is so thin it is hard to tell whether it is a grey one with a blue line or vice versa :-(

The hotfix product is here: http://www.tawpark4x4.com/instructions/omega_hotfix.htm

I haven't checked the glowplugs as they were all replaced less than 6 months ago in an effort to solve the warm start problem (made no difference at all of course). My Vauxhall (Main Dealer) garage has replaced the leak off pipes (that seemed to improve things temporarily) but all benefits now lost and back to the usual problem. Had the leak-off pipes checked again and all ok.

After having (and enjoying) the car from new, I am now at the point of thinking enough is enough and I am throwing good money after bad all the time. This last fandango with the Taw Park hotfix, is similarly depressing.

If all else fails, I suppose I will have to pay more to an auto electrician to install this box for me again. If that doesn't cure it, my love affair with the car has had its day and it will be time to move on.  :'(

Glad I didn't waste more money on those 'dodgy' workshop CDs so thanks for that.

Thanks for that!

Sounds like I may have the right one then. It is a very thin wire compared to others though. The hotfix kit uses bullet connectors to break into this wire. They look too big for such a thin cable but I have split and joined as instructed.

Nothing is working with regards to the so called hotfix (glowplug light will not illuminate when engine warm). The engine is still a pig to re-start when hot  :'(.

It could be the bullet and scotchlock connectors are not sound or just that the unit is faulty. Right now I don't know which  :(

I have been looking for an official copy of the workshop manual fro my (mini-facelift) 1998 Omega Elite 2.5TD Auto Estate.

Found this link to some CDs and wonder if anyone here has purchased them and found them useful (or otherwise)?

<Link removed - sorry>

I'm struggling with the wiring loom at the moment as part of the dreaded warm starting problems with this engine  :(

Bought one of the 'Hotfix' solutions which involves connecting just 4 wires. The instructions were incorrect about the earth colour and I am wondering if the engine temp sensor colour (blue/grey) is also wrong in the instructions. My Haynes manual doesn't cover the diesel engines and the people I bought the hotfix from have been less than helpful  >:(

Advice welcomed!

Cheers!

Sounds like your problems was worse than mine as once started, my car behaves in all respects.

I have fitted the Taw Park hotfix but I must have screwed-up or the unit is faulty as it appears to do absolutely nothing for warm starting. I am thinking something is wrong as the glow plug light does not illuminate when the engine is restarted hot. If the unit was working, I understand this would happen regardless of the engine being hot or cold and then reflect the true temperature after 30 seconds to avoid over-fueling.

Not had much luck speaking to Taw Park since. I hope that isn't a bad sign!  >:(

Yep! That was it! - Thanks!

Brown is definately the colour for earth (and not black) in an Omega. Maybe they should include that in their fitting instructions for the Omega version  >:(

Having fitted the unit according to the instructions, there is no obvious sign of it doing anything at all. There is a red LED on the circuit board which does not illuminate with the ignition switched on so maybe the scotch lock connections are not good enough. If I take the clip off each and then test each metal bar with a voltmeter, there is 13v with the ignition switched on and zero without so I know I attached it to a 'switched' power supply. I cannot detect any current at the other end of the scotch locked cables so one or both of these may not be sound.

Will soldier-on tomorrow now :-)

Cheers!

Thanks for your reply.

I can't get access to the glow plugs as the damn plastic cover refuses to release. It's the bolt at the back which I cannot get undone.

Sounds a bit gymnastic for me to attempt but I appreciate the suggestion.

I have fitted the 'Hotfix' unit from Taw Park 4X4 connected and tested as far as possible. I have been trying to get in touch with David of Taw Park all day to find-out whether the red led inside the unit should be illuminated when the ignition is on. Unfortunately, I constantly get the message he is 'temporarily unavailable'. I did speak to him the other day before ordering so he may just be otherwise engaged as he seemed a straight enough chap then. Has anyone here had any experience with this particular 'Hotfix' version?

After taking the car on a long run and getting it plenty warm enough I tried a restart. Same old problem was evident I'm afraid so either I haven't fitted it correctly, the unit is broken or just not appropriate for the Vauxhall set-up  ::)

Cheers!

Hi Seth

Don't think it can be that in my case.

I just forked-out £120 for a new Varta Silver 85ah and it makes no difference as far as I can tell :-(

Thanks for the reply though.

Thanks!

I'm not going mad then  :D

Will test for earth on the brown tomorrow.

Omega General Help / Colour of Earth wires to/from ECM on Omega 2.5TD
« on: 01 December 2011, 16:16:43 »
Ready to fit the following 'hotfix' to solve my warm starting problems (I hope).

I am following these instructions:

http://www.tawpark4x4.com/instructions/omega_hotfix.htm

I am pretty sure I have found the blue/grey wire in the loom (thinner than I expected though).

Also found the red/white to a nearby relay.

Little puzzled as to the bunch of black earth cables. I am thinking that these may actually be brown on my pre-facelift Omega.

Can anyone confirm please?

Cheers!

That's interesting!

Sorry for my thickness but what is a lazy starter and how is it cured?  ???

My starter motor whizzes the engine around when the battery is 100% but then subsequent attempts drain the remaining power very quickly. Bear in mind I have a new 85ah heavy duty battery installed.

If that is symptom of the battery being lazy, what next please?

Cheers!

Andy

Anybody please?   :y
