Omega General Help / Re: weight a minute
« on: 06 April 2009, 08:39:22 »
For the last Omega model (e.g. 2002, 2003) the numbers for Kerbweight (in Kg's) are

1631 (2180) - 2.6 MV6 Saloon Manual
1651 (2190) - 2.6 MV6 Saloon Auto
1675 (2185) - 2.6 Elite Saloon Manual
1695 (2195) - 2.6 Elite Saloon Auto
1656 (2195) - 3.2 MV6 Saloon Auto
1700 (2200) - 3.2 Elite Saloon Auto

1679 (2290) - 2.6 MV6 Estate Manual
1679 (2300) - 2.6 MV6 Estate Auto
1723 (2330) - 2.6 Elite Estate Manual
1723 (2340) - 2.6 Elite Estate Auto
1679 (2305) - 3.2 MV6 Estate Auto
1723 (2345) - 3.2 Elite Estate Auto

This is from the brochure and it does raise some intersting questions for those that like detail ... The Sallon numbers look sensible but why are all estates except MV6 the same.

The numbers in brackets are the Gross Vehicle Weight = max weight of car once you have filled it up with bodies and other such stuff.

Omega General Help / Re: Sat Nav and TMC on a NCDC2013 ?

Traffic master Oracle is dead easy to retrofit to ncdc2013 (slightly more complex for ncdc2015, and not quite ideal)

Please tell me more ...

Thanks for all the advice.

My Omega does not have traffic master, they removed it in about 2002 I think.  Perhaps beccause they were adding TMC, although from your comments above it looks like they decided not to buy the licence.

If it was as simple as buying an updated satnav disk (with new software) then I would go for it.  Some of the other options to get TMC working are just too expensive.  It would be cheaper to buy a cheap TomTom unit and stick it in the car although that seems a real waste.

Maybe I will try and get one of the small standalone Traffic Master untis for the long journeys.  Once you know there is a traffic problem you can enter it manually into the NCDC unit and it will recalculate the route.  Not the neatest solution but maybe the cheapest.

Thanks

Thanks for the info.  Not a big problem but would have been a very nice feature if it had worked.

Thanks again ...    :(

Omega General Help / Sat Nav and TMC on a NCDC2013 ?
« on: 03 April 2009, 17:48:26 »
Can anyone shed some light on my problem ...

I have a 2003 Omega 3.2 Elite with an NCDC2013 (Siemens) and a colour screen.  I want to know if I can get the TMC function working in the UK.  This is the function that will pick up traffic alerts and give you an alternative route.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think to get this working you need three things, first the unit needs TMC functionality, second you need a SatNav disk with TMC codes and third you need a TMC signal.

The NCDC2013 supports TMC but the TMC settings are greyed out on the menus. I think the disk has the TMC codes as I think it worked once in France, although does not mean it has UK codes.  I am sure they broadcast the TMC signal in the UK as newer cars use it.

Is the solution finding a disk with UK TMC codes? ... as I can't seem to find one.

Any help or comments appreciated

To be honest, main dealer servicing is not great with most dealers.  Good for resale, but it may be worth your while doing most servicing yourself.

I live in an area where there are a few Vauxhall franchises.  This allows me to get a discount from my local dealer, bringing their price down to close to a local 3rd party garage.  They even collect and deliver for free.  This makes the small premium worth while for the main dealer service stamps.  I will start looking locally for other items, such as brake pads etc as car mechanics is not my thing.

Thanks to everyone for the advice    :y

Where are you in Kent?

I am in Bexley.  Within a short drive we have a few WJ Kings, a couple of Whitmore's, a Penfolds and a Tony Levoi just over the bridge in Essex (Lakeside) where labour rates are lower than kent.  All you need is the nerve to ask for a discount.  Ring a couple for and ask them for their "best price". Call your favourite last ... tell them they are your favourite but they need match the price.  Works a dream.   :)

Timbuk ... yu de man

It was the fuse.  That will teach me to look at the simple things first.

I also know what blew the fuse.  The other day I had pumped up the tyres with a compressor running off the cigarette lighter.  It suddenly stopped working as the cigarette plug broke.  It must have shorted the socket out at the same time.  I had completely forgotten about that and had not driven the car since.

Many many thanks the steering is nice and light again ... I owe you one    8-)

Thanks

IT seems light for about half a turn then gets very heavy.  Your description seems to fit if it thinks it is at motorway speeds all the time.

Omega General Help / Newbie - just joined and looking for help
« on: 02 April 2009, 11:21:50 »
Hi

Just joined.  Wanted Omegas all my life and have owned three.  Currently driving my pride and joy ... a 2003 3.2 Elite Saloon, it even has the colour satnav screen.  I have had it since 2004 and although it only has 26k on the clock I suspect it is going to start costing me money.

Trying to decide if I listen to my pocket or my heart.  Do I spend some money on it and keep it for a few more years or sell it and spend the money on something else ?

The aircon packed up a few months ago.  With the help of an aircon specialist and some dye we have identified the leak is behind the dash but I do not know if it is a seal or the full heat exchanger.  Then just today the steering has gone heavy, although not as heavy as if the engine is off.   Think I need sort this out before it gets serious?  Only other problems I have had were both front door central locking motors.  Apart from them is has been serviced every year by a main dealer and passed every MOT.

All advice, opinions or jokes welcome ...      :-/

Newbie Welcome Area / Re: Hello from Holland

Danny,

Welcome.  I am a newbie as well and you will find all the help you need from some great people on this board.

I notice the colour sat nav screen ... I have the same and it makes a big dfference.  Easy to fit to most Omegas but very hard to find.

best of luck

Holy Count ...

I've been down the specialist route.  They added a dye and tracked it down to a leak somewhere behind the dash.  They tried adding a sealant but it didn't work.  Next step is really to take the dash out to pin point the leak.  It could be a cheap seal or a more expensive heat exchanger ... but in both cases the labour cost will be high and the specialist did not want to take on the job.

Maybe I will try and find another specialist or it may be worth the £90 with a dealer to get them to identify the problem.  They will knock this off the price if they do the (highly overpriced I am sure) work.

Thanks again.

The power steering problem was a simple fuse ...  Thanks again to Timbuc.

Now I need to decide if ...
1.  I keep using the car with no aircon
2.  I pay Vauxhall £90 to tell me if it is a cheap or expensive problem
3.  I sell her

I really would like to keep the car.  Can anyone advise me on what the next major bills could be over the next few years.  Its a 2003 3.2 Elite with 26k on the clock and I do about 5k a year, some long some short journeys.  No cam belt change yet and I have heard ABS and Catalyst problems can be expensive.

Thanks

Andy,  re a sale ...

It is my pride and joy but I would consider sensible offers, it may help me make up my mind.

It is dark green, Kryton Green I think.  Bought as a Network Q car and serviced every year at a main dealer.  Excellent condition, has colour satnav screen and even a full alloy spare with new tyre.

MOT was July and last service was October with tyres (Pirelli's) at 5mm on front and 5.5mm on back (as they have been replaced).

If you are seriously interested then let me know but please note that I am still undecided.
