Omega General Help / Re: New road tax prices
« on: 08 May 2009, 14:19:44 »
Quote
All a con. What gets me about road tax is the street I live on has 4 schools a college and goodness knows how many university buildings on it, either way the amount of traffic up and down it in a day is BONKERS to put it politely. But yet there are pot holes that you could lose a house in in some cases, maybe a bit over the top but you get me. And all they have kept on doing is take up a bit more tarmac around it and refill it. What is it with these people. Have lived on this street for over 15 years on and off and it has not been re-surfaced once in that time.  In this time we have seen the A55 on anglesey grow, the M6 toll, e.t.c. Whats wrong with my street, It's only a mile long. Stupid people. too interested in how many houses they can buy or how posh their parents nursing home is.

I work for a highway authority, needless to say we dont get to see any of the money from road tax or petrol duty!  If the roads arent repaired then it becuase we dont have the money.  I think the actual amount of funding that allocated for the roads from road tax and fuel duty is around the 10% mark.

The mtorist props up this county, and gets nothing in return except the blame for 'global warming'.

Omega General Help / Chipping my 3ltr MV6
« on: 06 May 2009, 15:59:42 »
I was thinking of chipping the MV6 - but dont really know much about it.  I dont want to introduce any reliabillity problems, overheating, naff fuel consumption etc.  Im also concerned that I may gain power at higher revs to the detriment of low down torque.

So will I notice a difference, do I have anything to worry about and what is the best chip to go for?  I saw this one on ebay, any good?

Omega General Help / Sorry - just two more noob questions!
« on: 26 April 2009, 09:35:23 »
When I bought the car it had the 'Low Beam Fld / Vision' warning coming up, so I checked on here and it turns out the the front sesnor had seized up and partially fallen off.  Its all greased back up and fitted and the error has gone away - great - but now my headlights point a little too high, to the annoyance of every other driver.

Now looking through the old MOTs it says that the garage adjusted the headlight level, I'm guessing they did this become of the broken sensor.  I didnt think that these units were user adjustable, so how do I go about pointing them back to normal?

Also, where is the oil filter?  Im guessing Ill see it when I take off the front splash panel?

Cheers,
Dave

Omega General Help / Re: Brake pad sensor
« on: 26 April 2009, 09:28:39 »
Brilliant stuff chaps - got two new ones from the motor factors, took the wheels off and fitted the one - went round to do the other and it was the wrong type.  Not sure how they managed that but I think Ill just join the wires on the one side and take back the sensor.  Should save me an extra £7 next time it goes - ha!

Thanks for all your help,
Dave

Omega General Help / Brake pad sensor
« on: 24 April 2009, 17:52:23 »
I’m still working through the little niggles that I inherited when I bought my MV6.  I’ve fixed the highlight warning message (the front senor had seized and come loose) but the brake pad warning remains.  The pads are nearly new, so I'm guessing that the old set wore down too far and the sensors got a bit hot or something?

Anyway - I am presuming that there is a sensor on both of the front brakes?  Is there anyway to tell which sensor is broken?  Or should I just replace both?

Thanks for your help, great site,
Dave

Omega General Help / Re: tints
« on: 21 April 2009, 17:00:44 »
Just got my windows tinted - as advised above, anything over stock on the fronts would be illegal.  Police could cause you some problems - but its insurance companies that will be the head ache!  If your in a prang (even if its not your fault) and an assessor sees those tints they will not pay out, simple as that.  I wouldnt run the risk.

Omega General Help / Re: induction kits
« on: 16 April 2009, 17:33:55 »
An interesting thread, and one that crops up on all of the previous model specific forums that I frequent.  Only the very expensive intakes will yield any power gains - such as a well designed k&n unit - but gains will be minimal and will usually only appear higher in the rev range, often to the detriment of low range power.  As echoed above on an Omega I do not think you will be getting that much cool air from under the bonnet anyway.  You have to ask yourself £180 for 5bhp - is it worth it - a good service will yield more than that?

I used to always chuck a k&n panel filter in my rigs but after seeing how poorly they filtrate compared to paper and how quickly all of that oil gets on the maf and throttle body - I won’t be doing it with my Omega.

I have to confess I don’t like the idea of putting an intake on the lower grille - surely that’s just asking for trouble?  Last time I checked I don’t think engines run too well on water, slurp!

Just thought Id show you a few pics of a few of my previous motors - the last one of which I sold and took my Omega in PX.

A rather tatty Suzuki SJ413 - lots of fun though

A bit of a project Suzuki SJ410

My lovely Vitara - I miss that car  :'(

My old Jeep Grand Cherokee - still going strong in the hands of my parents (that reminds me, I need to fix that wheel bearing :o )

My last Jeep, I sure do miss that V8 :)

Ill try and get some pics of my Omega taken today - shes a beaut alright - although I should have taken some before and after photos as it came to me in quite a sorry state.

Thanks for the great forum, I hope that I can add to it in some small way.

Yes its a facelift, or so I'm told!  Not sure of the differences between models but perhaps these parts are interchangable?

Its the small clip that attaches to the car with two torx head screws (I think), and it clips the fuel flap into place before it is secured with the central locking.  Its the black bit in the middle of the pic (yes yes, I know its all black).

Cheers all,
Dave
