Omega General Help / Re: Head Gasket
« on: 12 June 2009, 18:13:20 »
as suggested , water loss , oil mixed with water or water with oil , loss of perforamce, but to suggest that you take the heads off to tell is daft, you carry out cylinder pressure tests, coolant system pressure tests ,as soon as you remove the heads you ruin the gaskets anyway so methodical investegation is the way to tackle this or any task

the only way to sort the leak is to use an engine cleaner, eg jizer or gunk then jetwash and allow to dry . When you park up place old newspaper on the floor and look for any telltale drips to indicate where its from . ps wish yoy would change your profile pic as i find it very hard to concentrate on what im tiping lol

Omega General Help / Re: Big end replacement
« on: 27 May 2009, 12:32:28 »
not an engine in situ operation if you want to do the job properly and you want it to last , you need all the correct tools to measure for crank wear, thrust washers ect , and you also need to determine why the shells have failed , not a job for the fainthearted

overfilling will cause serious damage to the seals , drain it down to correct level straight away  :(

7
a compression test is a pressure test , the readings should all be within 10% of each other

8
you must have a compression test carried out to identify the problem , your just going round and round in circles untill you know whats the problem you cant come to a cure

hi , you need to check the altenator drive belt , if thats ok you need to check the altenator output at the battery while the engine is running should be around 13.5 14.00 v

The only way to idendtify the source of the noise is to adopt a system of elimimating items , not to go guessing at what it might be or not be, get yourself a cheap stethiscope and run the engine to try to pinpoint the noise, it may be the cam has broken a lobe or two or the lifters are failing but thats just guessing
