No. It's not an FM modulator and yes it does by pass the head unit. Don't know about Bose, but it works pretty good in a non-bose. Bluetooth hands free works nice and clear and voice recognition even ain't bad. It can stream music by bluetooth or from an SD card or memory stick. For the ipod it has a connector in the glove box which also charges the ipod and also has a standard 3.5mm jack for other brands of mp3 player. Overall, pretty impressive bit of kit, but sound quality won't match Bose me thinks.

I know very little about car electrics, Halfords fitted it for me.
I had to buy what they called a by pass cable for the Bose amp which cost an extra £65 if I remember correctly.

It was not an FM transmitter as the Parrot is bluetooth.

I don't know what problems people on here refer to as I have mentioned this before that i had one fitted and pretty much got called a liar. Halfords seems to know exactly what they were doing and had it fitted in about 4 hours.

I must admit though as it was Halfords fitting it I was expecting problems but in all the time I had the car right up to last week when I traded it in the system was flawless.

If you want a hands free for recieving calls or making calls when driving then there are far cheaper bluetooth kits about (visorlite) but if you want to do what the OP was looking to do get the parrot.
So it bypasses the HU, thus losing all that functionality.  Also, I wouldn't expect reliability with a crappy 3rd party amp driving 2ohm Bose speakers ;)

Although, it could still be an FM transmitter - without trying to find it on Parrott's crappy website, who knows...

Needs to work with Bose for me  :'(

How does Parrot connect? Not by the phone mono input?

The parrot does not connect as such. It has it's own built in amplifier and just uses the car's speakers. Have one my Omega and the stereo only gets switched on when I want the radio. It cannot use the MID or the steering wheel controls, but with it's own display and remote it's not really an issue.
Sound quality is decent and equivalent to standard stereo. Not sure how it compares to Bose and there would need to be some adapting to use the 2 ohm speakers.
I like all the connection options - SD card, memory stick, line in and ipod plus bluetooth streaming. The phone bluetooth and voice recognition work pretty good with my Nokia N97.
£169 from Halfords and easy install. They recommend an extra SOT cable to set up, but with the lack of room behind the stereo I just cut the speaker block off the original loom and installed without it.

The switch inside the car to open the boot (saloon) does not work. It opens O.K. with key fob and the switch even illuminates when it is open. Is this just a faulty switch or could there be some other reason.
Have you tried holding switch in for 5 seconds. Instantaneous press will not release the boot
Yes, I've tried all these things. It's def a fault of some kind, probably switch, so I'll look there first.

Thanks TB. I'll look at the switch first then.

Everything else works. Would a duff lock still open with the key fob button.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Poor radio reception

Had similar radio problems a while back and also thought it would be the aerial amplifier under the parcel shelf. Eventually traced it to a break in the cable though. It might be worth having a look at the connector behind the driver's kickplate or the plug into the back of the radio itself.

It is a bit confusing - definitely driver's side footwell in a facelift, but pre and mini seem to always talk about the connection being in the passenger's side.
You won't get a replacement cable in Halfords (it has a connector wrapped in a big, grey plastic plug thingy), but can't cost much from dealer - you could always cut this off and make a lead using an in line socket. I did this for mine, but then my plug had completely melted off anyway.

I've got a feeling the ones in the boot are for the old Carin Sat Nav unit.

Never thought of that. Makes sense being in the boot.

The ones behing the interior light I don't know - sunroof maybe? The ones in the bonnet - I think you mean the boot. I have the same leads in the boot of my car and assumed that these were for connecting a bluetooth hands free phone kit, especially as the small plug is for the roof aerial. I would assume that to do this something would need to be plugged in to the head unit in place of the integrated phone system, but I don't know for sure.

If you have a facelift, I had to run a whole new aerial cable recently which follows the phone cable. There is a join behind the rear seat bumper driver's side - it then runs under the sill plates to another join behind the driver's kick panel and then up and over the cover above the pedals to the head unit. If you can't find it you can look for the junctions mentioned to see if the wiring is actually there.

Thanks for the reply Zirk. I do of course mean GSM. It is the factory fit phone (CCRT 800 HU). Not sure how to up a photo, but the base is complete as installed and am sure it's all fine. Just need to know what kind of screw in aerial will fit and work.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / phone aerial

When I bought the Omega, the stubby roof aerial was missing. I stuck a whip aerial on which I had lying about. I get phone reception, but I'm sure it could be better. Is the stubby GPS specific. There's loads of the really short (65mm) rubber ones on ebay for citroens/pugeots etc. Would they fit and/or work - I think the vauxhall thread is 6mm, which other cars are.
Anybody know what a genuine stubby mast replacement would cost from Vauxhall and the part number?

Hi Ghost Driver,
That's an idea. Nothing else around shows any damage or could carry heat. I think I'll lift the carpet and have a look. The cable was touching the carpet, so maybe had a water leak in the past or maybe somebody welding underneath or something. Maybe I'll just redo the cable and keep an eye on it afterwards.
