Yep, it's running still with no MAF 3000 miles later it's not causing too much of a problem but like you say it's a bit thirsty, 56 miles and it costs a tenner.  I got a MAF from ebay and it had the wrong connector on it mine is a round plug but the one I got had a square plug so no luck yet, i should just buy a new £38.00 one and have done with it now.  The pipes are an unknown quantity to me I really have no idea where they go, there is one at the front of the engine that looks like it has a vacuum on it (is this the auto choke) and the one at the rear of the engine i have no idea where that should go, I keep trying to pull up other omega drivers when I see one but they are few and far between now and even the Vauxhall garage here don't have a clue.

Just want to say thanks again for all the help this site and it's members have given me, I would defo recommend anyone to come here for a friendly and helpful experience.  I will post again when I eventually get this sorted to give you guys the new fuel economy and any news and pictures of where the damn pipes go, lol.

Traaa a bit !

It works quite well but uses oil and I can't find time to even open the bonnet at the moment.  26mpg travelling 27 miles taking it easy between 50 and 60 mph, not putting my foot down to accellerate hard.  I have done over 300 miles with the MAF disconnected totally.  I'm a bit nervous still because there is a little smoke coming out the back but that must be because the MAF ain't on !  Thanks for your super advise, my new job is great too !

If anyone knows any reason why I should not continue to drive the car in this state (bearing in mind I'm driving carefully) please post a reply, if nothing else is posted I will continue to drive it.

Thanks again everyone, I'll post again when I get another look at it.

I ran it for a while today with the MAFS disconnected but drove really easily and it seems ok.  The fuel consumption is about the same as before according to the computer (average 18.5mpg local).  I am going to do a 20 mile each way work jouney tomorrow and am really nervous, but needs must.

You guys ROCK !!!

I disconnected the MAF sensor (the square one on the air tube) and the car runs for ever with no worries but once reconnected I get about 200yds and it coughs, splutters and then stops.

I'll get a new one i think, fit it and then give you results as soon as, but in the mean time will it cause any damage running without it ?

You have saved me a fortune I am sure.

Thanks again and again and again.

Thanks for replying so quickly guys, i just got the paper clip results.  The Engine management Light is not flashing and the immobiliser fault has gone from the list so i wouldn't suspect that as the mec did clear the memory is the MAF now broken, all connectors plugs have been removed, inspected and cleaned, they looked good anyway.

The numbers are as follows, using a paper clip
12
12
74 Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High
74
74
73 Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage Low
73
73
48 low battery voltage (a new battery fitted)
48
48
31 no rpm (i didn't start it up)
31
31
12
12
12
loop

I looked at the list you suggested chris and again it looks like the faults have reoccured trippled. can i clear the memory or do i need a tech2 or a new MAF sensor.

Thanks again, chris.

Hi everyone, I thought at last I had bought a car that was gonna be a winner £250.00 I paid with no tax or ticket.  I had looked on this site and everyone seemed really happy with their Omegas.

Trouble started with EM light coming on at 2am then in the morning it would not start, now it sometimes starts and then cuts out after a while coughing and spluttering first. It seems to be misfiring and smoking quite a lot when it does run, at high revs (over 4000) it seems to be okish  but I can't / daren't drive it on the road as it won't last long enough running to get to the end of the road.

???? Wrong signal from immobiliser
?73? MAF something to do with high voltage ?
?74? MAF something to do with low voltage ?

There were only 3 errors, the mechanic then cleared the memory but he did assure me that they meant nothing really before he cleared them, fortunately I have quite a good memory for this.

I have put a new fuel filter in today and tried a second hand crank sensor from the scrap yard and it was exactly the same result.

I have a couple of little pipes off at the rear of the bulk head do not know where they go to, they must have been on before, a piccy would be nice to see where to put them.  One is next to the air intake for the top 4 pipes.

please help.
