Mornin all !
I,m a complete and utter Vauxhall virgin .. after 35 years of motoring , bought my first ! Its an Omega V6 estate .. all the specs etc and , I must admit , I,m very pleased .. mostly !
Just a couple of questions for those a damn sight more intelligent than me ( thats most of the world population !! )
Firstly, the engine ticks over at just below 500rpm .. is this normal ?
Finally, it seems to take a helluva long time to warm up (around 10 minutes at normal driving) and stays at 80ish !
Thanks very much guys ;0)
Chers,
Pete

General Car Chat / Re: Blown head gasket .. maybe ??

This sad story has a happy ending !! Despite all you harbingers of doom saying warranties arent worth a cr~p .. heres one that is .. The AA Breakdown Repair Warranty costs me about £3 a month and has just sent me a cheque for £475 toward the repair .. it was the oil cooler, but also the rad had split and the contaminated water/oil mix had to be spooned out by hand so the labour was a little more than normal. The total cost was £725 . I waited about a week for the cheque ... good service ?   Damn right !!  The better news is , I can claim up to 6 times a year.
ANYONE WITH A 100K MILES PLUS CAR SHOULD CHECK IT OUT !!
Thanks to all who offerd advice ... gratefully accepted.

Its not a garage warranty !
Its an AA add-on for vehicles over 100k mileage .. only @ £5 a month but pays out £500 max BUT for up to 6 claims a year ( sound like an AA slaesman !!)

The proper question would be therefore .. Elite Pete .. are you VAT registered, because my warranty dictates this !!
Thats one for you to answer ;0)
The car hasnt and wont be driven til this is sorted out , but was driving perfectly well until last night.
My warranty covers up to £500 so if it it definately the oli cooler then its within finances..if its the head gaskets then even the £500 difference means a tough decision !!

Thanks Pete ... thats a £1000 load off me small brain !!
Just walked round to our local garage who quoted that amount but has said he,ll check with some okeycokey2000 machine thing !!!
Can I ask what make you sure its the oil cooler ?

Pete

General Car Chat / Blown head gasket .. maybe ??
« on: 16 February 2011, 11:11:18 »
Hi all .. adviced respectfully requested please!!
Last might my "check oil level" light illuminated and within minutes water temp had gone off the scale. AA called and on opening bonnet a horrible yellowy goo was seeping from the radiator bottle and (I think) from an overflow pipe. Diagnosis was blown head gasket but reading other messages another reason could be oil cooler prob. Its a 2.6 V estate with 137k clocked.
All advice gratefully received !
Cheers,
Pete

General Car Chat / Re: Resetting air con

OK .. the compressor act in accordance with all you stated before i.e: spinning when a/c active and still when not.
Whats the problem with vent flaps and why isnt it repairable ? Perhaps I,m answering my own question here , but is it becaus the whole dashboard need to come out ? Uneconomical maybe ?
Thanks again to all !!

Sorry , but thats beyond me ! I dont have access to a 12v supply and I havent got a clue where anything is ont his engine !
All the attached components that are linked to belst appear to be turning as they should so presumably the compressor is too ( is it the one with the 3 bolts in a triangular formation ?). The previous owners advises a regas was done 2 months ago by ....Kwikfit and also the system passed a leak test.
I think it may be time for a visit to an aircon specialist !
Once again, thanks very much indeed for all the hlep and advise.
Cheers,
Pete

Tried the AOTO & ECO button thing but still pretty warm air when set to LO.
Lizzie, theres nothing on the display at all when ignition switched off.
Tried to check the compressor but I,m buggered if I can spot anything that looks familiar :-[ .. doesnt say too much as I,m very unfamiliar with this engine .. just appears to be a lot of pulleys and belts !!

I,d say not .. doesnt make any difference to the revs ( as per previous post) and I cant hear any signifiacnt noise above the normal engine turn over.
Whereabouts is the compressor ?

Hiya people !
See .. I told you I,d be back ;0)
I,m told by the previous owner that the air con was regassed in May .. and if it hadnt been working properly , the regas wouldnt,ve happened.
However, its not blowing cold at all but again, I,ve been advised that perhaps the air con needs resetting by pushing the "auto" & "off" button at the same time ??? Nothing in the manual to indicate anything like this ... can anyone help please ??
Thanks again & a good weekend to all !
Cheers,
Pete
