Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 Pre cat replacement with pipes
« on: 29 November 2016, 13:48:46 »
Buying even used ones is about 200€+ (at least here), not really economic for a car that probably will run another 1 or 2 years at most. Too many things to do, paint faded, kids on the way etc. So sooner or later I will need another car anyway, but still I would like to keep it in at least technically reliable shape.
I got one 90° pipe I think 55mm... in the worst case I would spend 30€ for another one and an afternoon welding. Fine for next MOT.
Question is... does this 90° fit more or less to replace the pre cat?

Omega General Help / 3.2 Pre cat replacement with pipes
« on: 29 November 2016, 11:49:58 »
Hi,

I think my pre cats are finally done completely, they are blowing through the inner shell (actually at the 6 "welding points" you can see under the outer shell). Tried to weld them couple of times, then "glue" it over with exhaust paste and welded cover panel, but the whole part is simply rotten! As it is not really needed for taxation or anything else here - I'm thinking about replacing them by simple pipes. Lambdas have been moved already some years ago.

I hope to find someone who maybe has already done this, expecially if someone has advice on a suitable pipe? It's hard to tell, but a 90° pipe in proper diameter should be fittable I guess? I'd like to get everything together before starting instead of standing there with half-dismantled car.
And do I have to worry about the nut and bolt of the manifold? I hope not to tear it off as that would be probably the death sentence for my Omega. Any preparatory work suggested to avoid this?

Appreciate any input! Thanks in advance.

Kristof

Omega General Help / Re: No start, no spark
« on: 16 February 2016, 11:20:05 »
Hi,

sorry sjc, I somehow didn't get a notification or failed to recognize it.
Both sensors, the one I replaced back in 2008 and now, are Bosch sensors. I was taught not to use any cheap aftermarket brands on the Omega, as this would most likely result in buying it twice ;)

Anyway, being happy the car started again I drove it a few days ago the first time. After maybe half a km I got the MIL lighting up, together with losing power. I stopped and blinked out P0325 knock sensor 1. Ok, it was late, I had to drive, car drove somehow, let's try it. After another 8 km or so the MIL suddenly disappeared. Car ran fine again. Since then, I get the MIL every day, but only for a few seconds. Car runs fine with full power though.

As I understand the fault code, P0300 -306 are for actual misfire the knock sensors register, while P0325 is a knock sensor malfunction itself? I was not able to check wiring right now, hope to do this tomorrow evening. I was just wondering, as this came once again very suddenly, if this can be somehow related to the crank sensor issue, or maybe because the mechanic unplugged coil pack 1 for testing? And did not snap it in correctly?

Hello guys,

just to give you a little feedback. It indeed was the crank sensor. :) I was sceptical, but you proved me wrong. After measuring infinite ohms on the plug it was clear even to me. Runs again :) And again I could learn something!  ;D

Thank you all for your advice and please forgive the typing Errors I made  :-[ Didn't find any button to edit it later.

Have a nice evening!

No no, gas is there, enough to fill the whole garage after a few starts, it's definitely the sparks that are missing.

So fuel pump runs anyway when turning the ignition on, no matter if crank sensor works or not, did I understand it right?
The engine should get just enough gas to cough IF sparks where working.

Hmmm... I ordered a new crank sensor (and cam sensor as well  as it was only a few Euros more, who knows...good to have one on spare) and I hope it arrives in time on friday at the latest. Changing it is not that hard and at least another factor to be ticked off.
I'm still curious, as the guy said he gets a rpm signal, anyway strange. From one day to another...

Thank you for your replies.

I was just wondering, if a failing crank sensor shouldn't block the fuel pump too?

Helly guys,

I'm desperate right now. I came home on friday, put the car in the harage, everything fine. Yesterday evening it just wouldn't start.
It is turning, you smell the gas, but it just won't come to life. No fault code stored, no flashing of the MIL.
After checking some fuses in the engine bay by removing them one at a time I somehow seem to have confused the system, suddenly the immobilizer put fault codes, flashing MIL, recognizing different keys though.

I called the automobile Club and at least the guy could solve the immobilizer issue... simply by cutting off battery for a few minutes. The main problem persisted. No spark on all 6 plugs. Tried another coil - the same. Coils have ignition line and ground, but don't seem to be feeded by the ECU. You can Access it and read fault codes, measure data and so on.

I'm not sure if I can suspect the crank sensor, the guy from the club said he sees an rpm signal. Some years ago I already replaced it, but the symptoms then were stalling when warm, no problem at all starting cold.

I had to leave the car at home for this week and don't really know where to look. Should I buy a new crank sensor just for fun and try it? Had anyone of you a similar problem and perhaps a solution?

I really really appreciate any input and help, my weekend so far is a catastrophy anyway, besides this trouble.

Thank you!
All the best, Kristof

:y That was a good idea! I wonder why this didn't come to my mind, now I honestly have doubts about my intelligence. Let's blame it on the heat, ok? :)

I checked two shops and the universal sensor is listed for both pre and post position. Therefore, many thanks, I think my question is now well answered.  ;)

@Kevin: thx to you too!

Yes, I got EML, but because of faulty sensor heating. I measured infinite resistance of this sensor's heating while the other one had the supposed.. I don't know.. 40-50 Ohms? According to the values of the official fault code procedure. So im 99,99% sure it's really a simple sensor change.

I moved the lambdas already some years ago, thanks to this forum :) Nobody on the continent had a clue about it, might be because there are far less 3.2 or 2.6 running on the streets here.

Hi,

As you will probably know there are 2 sensors on the 3.2, one for regulation and one behind the cat for monitoring, for each bank. I was wondering if the sensors pre/post cat are technically the same, except for the cable length? I'm asking because I need one of the post cat sensors and I once ordered Bosch pre cat sensors in an UK-webshop for the half of the price than I could get it anywhere else here. But this shop only has the pre cat sensors and if they are technically the same, I would be happy and could order one. :)

Many thanks in advance.

Greetings from Austria and from an office with 35 degrees... :s

Omega General Help / Re: Sometimes lack of power
« on: 26 November 2011, 16:33:47 »
@freecall666: Hmm... how can I check the dif? I saw it being a bit oily. Honestly I don't think gearbox oil was ever changed, at least not since I got the car. Never change a running system and as it runs (at least I thought the box does) and it is only mentioned for hard conditions, I didn't changed it. Engine oil about half a year ago. 10W40. Couldn't check plugs so far, as I unfortunately don't have any place right now where it is is at least not freezing and where I got enough light -> standing outside on the street and leaving and coming home in the dark. Next time at my parents.
@Michael2.6: I don't take it to any service, unless I can't handle it on my own.
@chrisgixer: Pedal as well as laptop.

I see it is going a bit in the gearbox direction. :) Could this be and/or explain, that the problem occurs temporarily and for the whole trip until restarted?

Another info maybe: consumption is fairly good I think. About 10,5-10.7 L/100km, 2/3 motorway, the rest city.

Omega General Help / Sometimes lack of power
« on: 26 November 2011, 01:20:48 »
Hi,

time to show up again, as nobody else could help me so far and I guess as you guys up there have much more 3.2 running, maybe you could give me a clue.

What I experience is a lack of power, it feels like 50 hp are missing. I have this for some years now, but not always, though most of the time. It is like gambling, you turn the key and either everything is fine or... not. The gas pedal feels like glued, the box doesn't shift at once. I can quite well compare both conditions, on my daily route I leave a town area and then come to a long straight road. So I do my 50 km/h and accelerate. If it's ok the pedal feels smooth and direct, the box changes gear at once and the whole acceleration feels harmonic. If not, then the box first tries to accelerate for a second in the same gear before shifting hard, but still it feels "wrong".

I supposed the Multiram not working, but it seems to be fine. Both valves can be activated with OBD, livedata shows activity, no fault code stored neither in ECU nor in box. Next suggestion was: vac tank. But that can't be either I think, because it held the vacuum as I could test the valves with the engine off a couple of times.
Front Lambdas are about 2 years old, MAF about 3. Oh and by the way the car passed the MOT last week without troubles.

If the pedal- or (the throttle in the ? plenum ? which name I don't know exactly) potis would fail the car would be undrivable, wouln't it?

So I'm completely out of ideas and hope you can help.

Thanx a lot!

Omega General Help / Re: My cat/emission problem
« on: 30 January 2010, 21:54:16 »
Hi,

after a long time I felt that I must inform you about the results. Well the sensors have been removed behind the cat and the temperature sensor has been replaced as well. Since this (well already 2-3 months), no FC has appeared again.

But still, lambda is at about 1.03 when idling, but it was right enough to pass the test. Maybe the aging cat is responsible for the rest, I don't know. Thanks for the tip, it seems that it helped!  :y

Hi Kevin,

I'm sorry it took such a long time for a reply, but the budget phase was long and afterwards I was on vacation too, meanwhile the family car had to be fixed as well. But I could'nt really get on with my stinky little problem.

What I managed to do until now is an *.xls file, where I can load my livedata into and which visualizes it. So what I found out, is..... well actually everything seems fine except the post cat lambdas indicating a lean fuel mixture, while at the same time (this is another measurand btw) the mV ranges of the same sensors seem ok. No idea of what's going on or why this is as it is... But it would be great if someone could have a look at these files, maybe 4 eyes see more than 2.  :-[

Once I also saw the short term fuel trim was about +-17%, just to mention it.

The fault codes come within 2 weeks after deleting them. When checking them with the scanner they are stored as non existent or more seldom as intermittent (one bank).

Thank you for your help and patience anyway.  :)
