Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Cruise Control - 2.6 CD Auto
« on: 14 August 2009, 21:06:45 »
excellent, thanks for clearing that up ... best get myself to the dealers - I fitted the stalk so just need to switch it on. Still gutted that it didn't work on my 2.2 vectra but then when I stuck it on my mates car it worked fine. Bummer.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Cruise Control - 2.6 CD Auto
« on: 02 August 2009, 13:41:41 »
Guys, bit weird this, but I previously owned a Vectra 2.2 SRI Hatch 2002 and tried to add cruise control to it but it wouldn't work.

I have now got an Omega and so I took the bits out of the Vec and tried them in my mates car, exactly the same except his is a saloon - and it worked fine !

I thought that the 2.2 didn't need Tech enabling so was pleasantly surprised (for my mate) that it worked on his, so he is well pleased !

If I am right, the stalk is the same for the Omega as it is for the Vec B, so I took the stalk back off his Vec and tried it in my Omega - and it doesn't work.

What I want to know is, should my car need a different brake switch as well, or does the 2.6 definitely need Tech 2 enabling - and if so, anyone near the Sheffield area to point me in the right (cheaper and more reliable than the dealer .....!) direction ?

Thanks in advance !

I have a Sony HU, a facelift Omega and a DOPS005 (purchased from Ebay),

It has four wires coming out of the unit with connectors which would fit into the third block of the car loom but I don't know which wire goes in which as the colours don't match - anyone suffered this too ?

.. of a bitch is it to get any audio stuff in an Omega !! I know most of the nooks and crannies but I have one seriously scraped knuckle finding out ....

Tips - (for those who don't know already and are starting from scratch like me!)

The end side panel of the dash at the drivers side pops off so you can run car kit wires etc up the side more easily ... if you open the cubby hole thing as well you can see more holes to finger ... I then 'trapped' the control box of my car kit above the foam / board cover thing which covers under the dash (didn't fancy removing the glovebox at all after reading about it)

You can unscrew the relay and fuse box panels from inside the fusebox under the steering wheel and lift them down to get wires through there and out of the way ...

If you get a knitting needle .... or, as I didn't have one handy I used an old Veccy aerial ... when you take the old radio out there are several holes on the inside right side ... poke your implement down the nearest one to you and eventually it will appear behind the relay panel. Then tape the wire to your implement and carefully drag it back through again - now the only problem is that this will be fouled by the new radio cage going in but you can then thread the wire back to where the main loom comes through so it's out of the way.

None of this is rocket science but I know a lot more about my car interior than I did before !!

Crikey mate, must be a diesel ? Having said that, the average mpg showed 27 as the dealer was using it to go to work and back .. anyroad, will have to see from Friday !

Thanks all, any pointers on the cruise control ? I can't find owt ... if the answer is no I will donate the bits to my mates 2.2 Vec and see if it works on his :-)

Looking forward to finding out loads more about this beast of a car, just hope I can afford to keep it - cheaper insurance but about 20mpg if I'm very lucky if the test drive is owt to go by !!

Hi folks,

I am a member of VVOC and Vectra-Sport, I have had an S plate Arctic 1.8 Vectra and then a 02 2.2 SRI.

Just traded in my Vectra 2.2 SRI towards a 2.6 V6 CD Omega which I am picking up next Friday so not to lose out on the tax ... I think it looks a bit 'old man' but then again I'm probably pushing that hehe ...

New baby came along and the pram is massive, only just about fits in the Veccy with the subs ... the Mrs drives a small car but only has an auto licence so I was looking for a massive (but pref not estate) car with AC etc which isn't silly money like the Mondeo or the new shape Veccy which the Mrs can drive back from the pub occasionally .... Enter the Omega !!

I got what I think was a reasonable deal, couldn't be messing about with selling the Vec privately so I got usual book price on it and got a 51 plate Omega with FSH, 12 months MOT, 51k miles and no dints etc apart from a dodgy lacquer situation on the bumper. My Vec needed 4 tyres shortly, suspension bushes and a bit of a weld on the exhaust manifold, plus the MOT is due in 2 months so that was gonna cost me money anyway ...

So - a quick question before I search through the threads and get some useful info and that, I never was able to get the cruise stalk and clutch switch working on the Vec, and it should have been plug and play ... is it just as easy to fit in the Omega or are we talking different part numbers, or even not doable ??

Cheers,

Musicboy.
