Hi guys,

Ive just bought a V6 Elite today.

Theres a problem with the Radio/CD/Cass. It doesnt work.

Model in the title.

The words ''SAFE'' are on the radio screen. What do I need to do to get it working?

Help appreciated....

Yuk, sounds horrid, is the noise in time with road speed?  i.e. In time with each wheel rotation gradually slowing as the car pulls up?

Is there any tyre ware on the inside/inboard edge?
What's the distance between shock body and tyre edge?

Hello,

Yes, it has a rythmn, as to when the car slows down.

As you mention inner wear, I shouldnt really say this, but the inside edge of the front OSF (drivers front) has bad wear, the metal wire strands are showing through. I was pretty shocked when I saw this as yes its on the bars, ready for tyres, but wasnt expecting this sort of deterioration on the inner edge.

Could this be my problem?

Ill check the inner wear between the sock and tyre.

I checked the pads for trapped debris, and also checked the sliders when calipers were off and they move sweet. Pad wear is even, checked this, only had them on 4 weeks or so.

Love knowledge on forums!!!

Cheers

Bloody he'll, yes it's definitely a problem. 2 possible causes IMO.

1, wishbone bushes are shot allowing the geometry of the front wheel or wheels to slip out of position.
2, the camber is set incorrectly/too aggressively on that wheel. Has there been any work done on that side? New shock or spring perhaps? If so then it sounds like the camber was not set correctly after the work was done.

Im in Preston, Lancs.

Ive had no work on suspension done in 8months or so of ownership.

Having had a good look, your point 2 seems to be the issue as the other side is nowhere near as much negative camber.

However Im not discounting point 1.

Right, its definately the camber. The NSF is ok clearance wise.

I can get both hands to meet eaisly, when put in from either side from behind the wheel, NSF. Theres plenty of clearance between tyre on strut.

Driver side, hardly any clearance, talking afinger width to meet. I dont think the tyre is rubbing on the strut when moving but obviously cant clarify this, just under heavy braking.

Visually there does look to be a lot of tow in on both sides of the fronts when looking head on. Seems to be quite a bit of negative camber.

Regardless though, its dangerous and will get this sorted on monday. It needs x2 new front tyres so will just get it done when these are being done.

Thanks for your input been great!

chrisgixer youre a legend. Just been out and checked the inner edge and yes, its soooo close to the shocker. Will presume this is my problem. New tyres monday  ;D

Might sound a silly question .. but where do you think the noise is coming from ??  It wouldn't be back seat area by any chance ??

Reason for asking is there was a "tech bulletin" regarding chassis noise from the rear seat area, the fix involves a small bit of "metal bending"

Yeah its defo coming from the front for sure. But so hard to pinpoint.

Omega General Help / Very Loud Creaking When Under Breaking...
« on: 02 July 2010, 20:48:15 »
Hi guys,

My Elite V6 has all of a sudden started making a very loud CREAKING on off, noise when under breaking. You actually only have to dab the pedal and as soon as it starts to bite its makes the noise.

It goes creak>no noise>creak>no noise>creak>no noise, until the car stops.

It doesnt do it when in reverse, only going forward, and does it at any speed. Braking doesnt seem to have been affected at all. Straight away you assume brakes as it only happens when braking, but I dont think it is anything to do with the brakes.

Quite un-nerving to be honest.

Ive had the calipers off tonight but everything seems ok.

It almost sounds like a dry type creaking noise. Its loud. Could it possibly be suspension? Dry ball joints?

Im hoping someone has experienced this before.

Anyone any ideas/input?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Some Sort Of Failed Bearing....
« on: 24 April 2010, 19:53:18 »
Alrite guys.

Ok, I think this noise is the aux belt pulley? Please confirm picture below is the pulley you guys were chatting about? Top left of all pulleys.

I removed the aux belt and only needed to spin this pulley to hear its absolutely shot. The bearing is knackered. Metal on metal grating.

I also took it off and the bearing is rough as hell and gives a horrid rough metal sound when you spin it as fast as you can on your fingers. Im convinced this is the issue so I didnt bother starting the engine up.

My main concern starting the engine up was the aux belt coming off and to be quite frank its massive and seems a bitch of a job to get back on the correct path and not being familiar with the routing didnt want to take the chance. Although as Ive not done this I couldnt rule out the chicken under the bonnet noise, which Im hoping is connected with this pulley.

Cheers for your help on this guys. Next step is to replace this pulley and hope all noises are cured!

Next question.Anyone take a guess on where this leak is coming from?

Omega General Help / Some Sort Of Failed Bearing....
« on: 22 April 2010, 19:22:30 »
I realise that its almost impossible to diagnose mechanical issues via web but heres my issue.

I had the cambelt done around 6 weeks ago. 2000 V6 facelift Elite.

When i had it done, upon start up after a few days it seemed like I had a chicken under the bonnet. Not a horrendous noise but you could notice it.

After it was driven literally straight away the noise went. Tended to be just on cold startup.

I went for a long run on the motorway last night.

This morning I started the car up and had a rather loud squeeking noise that persistent when driving.

Inspecting the car tonight the noise, on tick over had turned to a more 'metalic', 'chiming' noise.

It almost sounds like some sort of bearing has collapsed?

Any ideas?

Do the pulleys that drive the aux belt have bearings in them?

I presume the aux belt is removed when cambelt is done? Overtightening of the aux belt on re-installation?

Could it be this?

I think it connected with the cambelt change, although I dont think its the cambelt itself thats making the noise. I dont think this is possible.

Cheers!

Brilliant guys thanks!

I actually didnt even bother looking at the guides as other forums im a member of you have to be a paid member to see guides so a bonus here!

What about parts? Are we a fan of OE here or motor factor parts ok?

Omega General Help / Pads/Discs/Springs...
« on: 11 April 2010, 22:55:20 »
Hi guys,

Im just about to undertake the following next weekend which I presume should be pretty straightforward, but not having the omega haynes manual just want to ask if I need any 'non stock' tools.

2000 Elite V6 saloon.

Front Pads
Rear Pads
Rear Discs
Rear Coil Springs

Here are my questions

a) Do I need any special tools for these jobs? I.e odd tools. Never had a vauxhall before. I have every socket, spanner etc under the sun. Also have a spring compressor for the springs
b) What size is the nut for the rear and front hubs? Presume these need removing to remove discs.
c) My rear springs have snapped, both, is this common on these cars?
d) As regards pads, discs, springs, would you guys always go OE? I had a quote for parts from local motor factors and prices were great.

Thanks in advance.

Check the HBV back of engine driver`s side. Black plastic "starship" with 3 hoses attached, 2 going through the bulkhead

Hoses? Lose?
