Good grief Charlie Brown - can of worms or WHAT???!!!! :o  Ok ok so I was wrong about the 8 airbags; there's me thinking I had the same number as a new Vectra; never really taken that much notice till now :'( I'll just have to drive three times as carefully..... ;D

And anyway - did the boffins at Vauxhall really sit down when they decided to put seat airbags in and say "So, what can we make less safe in the Omega now it's got seat airbags?"  I reckon not.....

Thanks for your concerns tunnie, but I'll inform the appropriate authorities and am sure I can get around the technicalities of it.  At the end of the day the car still has, ummmmm, 6??? airbags to protect me and mine in the case of any unfortunality.  Can my driving really be that bad?!  :-/

Omega General Help / 03 Facelift seat airbag disablement
« on: 24 April 2007, 17:05:04 »
This may be frowned at by officionados amongst you, but may just be of use to someone else attempting the same project as moi, so I'm telling you about it.  I have leather seats from a 98 Elite which I'm in the proces of fitting to my 03 facelift 2.2CD as I like leather.  Nuff said ;-).  Seems to be going ok, but the problem of facelifts having seat airbags and the proposed front seats not was posing a bit of a problem.  A visit to a streetwise Vauxhall dealer employee sorted that; if you go to the seat connections under the side trims between the door and seats on the floor, you'll find all the connections for motors, heating and airbags.  The airbag ones are the yellow ones with yellow connectors.  Disconnect the battery and wait for a while until the charge to the airbag dissipates (a friend advised 10 minutes but I left it 45 as I didn't relish the prospect of an airbag going off in my face as I worked  :-?) and then pull the connectors apart.  Bridge the terminals of the connection farthest away from the seats, ie the end going to the battery as opposed to the seats, securely with a 2.6 or 2.7 ohm resistor, 0.5 watts, as available from Maplins price 13p a pop, and this fools various circuits into thinking that the airbag is still wired in, as opposed to the red airbag light lighting on the dash suggesting it is not.  This does not affect the efficiency of the warning circuit for other airbags which may have a fault.  Hey presto; the project can now continue unhindered, and seats minus airbags can be fitted with confidence.  A different Vauxhall dealer, for whom I used to work on the sales side, chose to take the official "seats fitted should be of standard specification only" tack; what rot - if the prefacelift Omega was unsafe without a seat airbag it'd surely have been condemned long before now......happy days  :D

Omega General Help / Camber fixing after wishbone replacement
« on: 07 April 2007, 18:41:23 »
Some of you may remember the exhasperation I was feeling after my 03 2.2 CD Auto had a definite camber problem and was scrubbing the inner front tyres off recently.  I tried the fatties in the front and tightening the wisbone bolts on the ground etc to no particular avail.....then today with the osf strut off for top bearing/mount replacement, when we went to rebolt the hub up we noticed play/ adjustment on the two bolts at the bottom of the strut.  Pulled the tops of the discs outwards to bolt up and hey presto - camber perfect.  I remember SOMEONE saying there WAS camber adjustment but have lost my original post so can't remember who it was or what he said  :-/ Anyway; it';s fixed now and I hope this helps someone else in a similar predicament  ;) All I need now is my front leather in once I've figured the wires ......the rears are in and have attracted much appreciation  :D  Happy Easter to all  :P

Omega General Help / Front struts top mounting bush replacement
« on: 22 March 2007, 19:54:25 »
Hello again chaps; the camber adjustment is making progress; thanks to all who left messages.  New concern is a clonk when REVERSING over small undulations, ie off a 1/2" raised parking bay onto the main street .  This has been isolated to the driver's side front; it happens to a lesser extent on forward travel, but is a loud and painful clonk when going backwards at low speed.  Wheel bearings and bottom balljoints seem fine; my mechanic friend David reckons it's the top strut bush, and says he can feel the knock when putting his hand on the top of the strut inside the bonnet as I reverse slowly.  He additionally says the strut appears to be lying at a different angle o/s compared to n/s when looking at the mounting flange on top of the rubber on top of the turret.  Also lock to lock there is a groaning from the o/s strut when stationary.  Help?!  Thanks again in advance for your suggestions; I'd appreciate advice also on whether the bushes are available separate from the strut assembly themselves, for cost saving purposes :-[.  PS yes I go over a lot of speedbumps  :-?

Mine's exactly the same, I've not had any probs so far; maybe just make sure you're the one sitting in the car at the time and you can make sure you give it a good yark.... I have to have the armrest up out of the way for mine to engage.  Good luck  :)

Very very helpful gents, I am indebted.  Gonna try the ebay site and go from there, although I WILL see if there is the aforementioned camber adjustment on the car first, might save me some money. Muahhhhhh to you all  :y

Tyres are Continental Premium Contact as standard spec on current Vectra.

Thanks for your help chaps; surely though tightening the bolts once the wheels are on the ground will make the problem worse, as the weight borne will spread the wheels out further due to settlement? We're on the point tomorrow of loosening the bolts, pushing bottom in and pulling top out whilst off the ground, and tightening whilst doing this; thoughts please? Tyres were not scrubbing off until the wishbones were replaced; the tracking centre I talked to reckon Vx have modified items in an attempt to rectify??

And re the emissions light, this is unaffected by running on petrol, have tried that to no avail.

I LOVE my Omega but she's stretching my patience at the minute...... have rear shocks and struts to replace yet.....  :-/

Re location, I'm in Washington Tyne & Wear so Watford's not really practical grrrr (would have to replace the tyres midway, ha)

Your advice is much appreciated gents  :D

Omega General Help / Omega 03 facelift front wheel neg camber
« on: 17 March 2007, 15:18:01 »
My Omega is getting me down at the mo.  It's chewing tyres like there's no tomorrow and I've just recently replaced (twice on NS) both bottom wishbones due to bush wear, parts used were FAI aftermarket ones said by my local factor to be the best ones available, costing £40 a shot.  Since this has been done, a local tracking centre has pointed out that the top of the tyres are markedly in over compared to the bottom, accounting for the scrubbing off of the tyres on the inner edges of the tread.  The wheels look like they're exhausted from carrying a heavy weight due to the angle they're lying at.  Can anyone PLEASE give me part number and manufacturer of bottom wishbones that will put the camber right???? :( At the same time, any idea why the exhaust emissions light keeps coming on; the car has an LPG conversion on and the fault code refers to the MAF sensor but I've heard a lot of talk about this often not actually needing replaced, and I don't want to have to if I don't have to, a new sensore being about £100. :'( The car is as smooth as ever but has the performance and throttle response of a pregnant slug at the moment.  And finally, on the autodimming mirror, any idea anybody, which colour wires to connect, on the little harness in the mirror base, to the interior light pos and neg to get it grafting?  Not bothered about memory functions or the reversing bit, I just want it to dim when nuggets are behind me.  Thanks to anyone and everyone in advance for your much-appreciated help  :y

Omega General Help / Re: Omega & Vectra C wheels (do they fit?)
« on: 18 March 2007, 20:59:03 »
I reckon they do too...would LOVE to get my hands on a set of fivespoke Signum wheels that end in the V shape.  They're off a Vectra C or Signum and they look the dogs  8-) Good luck in your search.

Bestlooking Omega I've seen mate, nice one  :)

Thanks for that James; I appreciate your comments, but I've got my heart set on this interior and it's sooooo cheap I'd be a fool not to have a go if it WILL fit in.  The car's a working vehicle and will probably be pretty much devalued once I'm finished with her anyway, so the devaluing side of things doesn't really concern me, just the fit of the stuff.  If anyone ele has any more experience of the fitment I'd be glad to hear from them.  Nice CDX by the way, bet she goes like the clappers  ;)
