well a bit of a development today. I opened the case up again, and noticed a TINY resistor was burned. So I soldered a piece of wire to bridge it, and hey presto! I have a cd changer again!

I have, however broken one of the two microswitches now when I put the pcb back in with the cassette loaded, so I'm off to maplins for a new one to put in it's place.

Thanks for all the help guys :)
Simon

lol, will try that lucas smoke. It worked fine till my brother let it out. Trouble is, how do I keep it in? i've obviously sprung a leak now!  ;D

typical mine is a rare one  >:( looks like i might be endine up with an aftermarket head unit then...

thanks guys

all the fuses are fine  :( had the multimeter out today and there IS power getting to it, its just not doing anything.
smells burned too but cant see anything burned on the curcuit board?
looks like i need a new one then! any thing i should know? do they just swap ok?do i need the code for the newchanger?breakers are probably unlikely to have codes i guess.

cheers guys

Hi guys,
My name is Simon and I have just bought a '98 cdx omega with the ccrt700 cd changher system fitted. When I bought the car, everything was fine. CD changer worked etc etc all was hunky dory  :y

but then I left the lights on over night and deadened the battery... My brother put the jump leads on the wrong way round and it popped the fuse for the back of the head unit. This is now changed, but the cd changer doesn't seem to be receiving power. does anyone have a wiring diagram so that I can check this? Also is there another inline fuse specifically for the changer anywhere? it's a blaupunkt jobby.

Also everything else works fine on the car, and I can't see any damaged fuses underneath the steering column.
Any help would be greatfully received, as I really would like to keep the stereo thats in it rather than swap it out for an aftermarket one.

Regards,
Simon

Omega General Help / Re: Turbo omega? Auto box?

cheers guys, but I already have my v6 toy. see here (its a pdf)
http://nnoc.co.uk/web/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=28&Itemid=37
i converted that myself :) if ever there was a project "not worth doing" then that would be it... but to me it was.. and still worth the year and a half it took me.

granted the auto would sap a lot of the power, but disability forces me to keep it... i guess the general feeling is not to bother. maybe it would be best reserved for a different project  :-/

I'm not after all that much. probably 8psi at most, unless I coul find a good (read cheap without bodging too much) way of lowering the compression ratio.
Also not sure on the rwd auto either, but judging by your response I guess he box is ecu controlled. Bummer!

One other solution that has been brought to my attention, is an lpg emulator to fool the ecu into thinking it's running the injectors still, then something like a megasquirt to run the fuelling. Would just mean possibly that there would still be detonation from too much advance? although probably not with optimax and a CR drop?

Omega General Help / Turbo omega? Auto box?
« on: 02 January 2010, 22:40:05 »
Hi guys,
I have a z20let exhaust manifold and turbo. I know the turbo ecotec has been done many times with a low pressure setup so I know that bit works etc. What I would like to know is, when I ditch the standard ecu, is the auto box going to still work? IE is it controlled by the engine ecu? my guess is it's connected in some way...
If it is connected and going to cause problems, is the simtec remappable? or I guess I could get a 5th injector kit?

Just seeing if it has been done in an auto omega - probably not the most usual choice of car to turbo i guess, but I need an auto, and the miggy would be a lot better with a small power increase IMO...

Omega General Help / Re: ECU Managment Light
« on: 27 December 2009, 17:04:50 »
yeah. I Unplugged both the ecu, and the cam position sensor. I Used the diargam I posted earlier about the pins on the ecu plug, and measured the resistance between the ecu plug, and the cps plug at the relevent pins. One wire was showing high resistance, so I snipped the wire from the back of the ecu plug, and ran a new one to the cam positi0on sensor. At present it is not shielded, it is just speaker wire in all honesty, but I will replace the whole lot once I find out where I can get shielded wire from. gonna hit maplins I think...

I've just had exactly the same problem on mine.. and fixed it today.
You will need a multimeter!!

Here are the autodata references I used. they may be of some help to you:
http://img686.imageshack.us/g/ecupinoutsforcps.jpg/

I measured the resistances of the sensor itself, then plugged it back in and measured the resistances at the ecu end (that diagram above shows you which pins they are connected to on the ecu) and found that one of the wires was reading a high resistance. I replaced this and now my miggy is running sweet :) Mine too was fitted with a modified cps.
You will find that your pattern part cps reads high on the resistances most likely as well. Timing belt tension has also been known to throw up this code aparently.
Hope the above is of some help for you
Simon

SORTED IT  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

tested the resistance across the three wires for the cps to the ecu - the one to pin 32 was reading a significantly higher resistance than the other two, so I ran a new wire to the ecu and bam! job's a goodun!

Welung - thanks again for your offer mate, but you're off the hook this time  ;)

many thanks for the offer mate :) I'm at work during the day unfortunately, but could come down after 4?
That is unless I can get it sorted before hand (hoping I can)
Just replaced the timing belt - the only one was damaged and slightly slack so I was optimistic....

No such joy though :(
Thanks for your help mate

it's the x20xev ecotec engine mate. it seems to have stopped the misfire now, just really poor performance.
am replacing the timing belt today so may as well stretch it to the plugs and leads etc.

anyone want to buy an omega??  :-X

welung - i'm in telford mate  :)

tunnie - the new sensor was bought from my vauxhall main stealer... it is not a pattern part nor is it "bodged". there are to versions of this sensor. the original one, and a later one whis comes with a modified connector and section of loom. this is because the original connectors allowed water ingress into the sensor causing premature failure.
when i went to the dealed they asked me if mine was the standard one or the modified one. I had no reason to beleive mine was modified but was aparently wrong. it was the new type connector which has been soldered on and will not fit an old type sensor. All i have done is re-fit an original plug.

which bit of that is a bodge?

all the wires continuity test fine, all are shielded and none are shorting to earth. both sensors conform to autodata's resistances. the only test i havent done is with an oscilloscope as I'm not fortunate enough to have one  :P

It is the right sensor.....

it is as was fitted to the vehicle originally... my car was fitted with an upgraded one, as part of a kit which had the sensor, and a length of wire with it.
Both the original sensor and the new one read exactly the same on the resistance, and at the same terminals. the new plug was taken from an omega, all wire colours matched exactly the same on both the plug that was fitted, and the plug that is fitted now. All I have done is fit a sensor that was fitted from the factory...

Omega General Help / At my wit's end - code P0340 cam position sensor
« on: 26 December 2009, 14:33:18 »
Hi guys,
Sorry to keep harping on about this, but I really am loosing faith in my otherwise good miggy.

Sypmtoms:
Car was down on power and averaging 18.3mpg. EML came on intermittantly when warm but a re-start used to turn it out and "normal" running was resumed.
I paperclipped it to find the intermittan eml fault and it came back with 0340. Cam position sensor curcuit.
Bought a new one, and fitted it to find that the one fitted to my car was the upgraded type and the one I bought was the old square type.

Refitted the "faulty" cps - but eml now constantly on and engine runs on 3 under load. Paperclip still only reveals 0340

Found a plug for the new cps, and fitted that soldered up and heat shrunk all nice. Still the eml is on and although the misfire has gone, the code is still there and rev limit still 4600rpm and now a SEVERE lack of power. Safe mode?

The symptoms are exactly the same whether the cps is plugged in or not - so I continuity tested the wires to te ecu - all fine. No continuity to earth on any of them either.
Am stuck now. the only other thing I can work out would be the ecu? is a vectra manual ecu the same as my auto omega one? plenty of vectras in the scrap yard but no omega.

failing that, is the gearbox controlled by the same ecu as the engine? cos I can se another nutty engine conversion coming  ::)
