Omega General Help / Re: 121 fault code
« on: 15 July 2007, 23:41:04 »
Thanks..

Well things have turned for the worse with this car. I dont know quite what to do and if its worth repairing, (annoying after spending a lot replacing all the wishbones, drop links, steering idler, tyres to get it through the MOT)..

The engine has developed a loud tapping, feels rough (as above) but worse, and is blowing a bit of oil through the breather system..

Omega General Help / 121 fault code
« on: 14 July 2007, 10:13:47 »
Hello All,

I have got problems with the Omega again :(

Yesterday it has started running rough, stalling on idle (feels like it is missing a cylinder or two).

I replaced all plugs and leads resently so I doubt its that, the cam covers too, so I have checked the plugs and there is no sign of oil.

I have done the paper clip test and there is a 121 code. "Oxygen sensor 2 Lean exhaust, weak mixture".

Is there any common things I should check here?

Cheers

Damon

I have the clamp type, however because there is no clearance between the steering idler and the ball joint I cant fit the splitter..  :(

Omega General Help / Help! Can't remove steering idler
« on: 14 June 2007, 19:58:16 »
Hi All

I am trying to replace the steering idler as it has failed the MOT. Following the maintenance guide procedure I can get off the pivot side however the ball joint side wont budge. I have tried hammers, breaker bars but it just won’t come out of the joint.  I have a ball joint puller but that’s no good either, wont fit.. (I dont want to damage the ball joint)
Anyone got any ideas or an easy way to remove one like this?

Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Locked out!!!
« on: 28 May 2007, 23:47:56 »
Having locked myself out of my Omega before it was not possible to use the key even with applying a lot of force.
I ended up unlocking the boot with the key, then using an old coat hanger depress the rear seat buttons and climb through into the cabin and unlock from the inside.   :)

Omega General Help / Re: Aux Belt Tensioner

Thats very interesting..
I installed an Aux belt from Autovaux at the weekend and it was very tight fitting too - hardly get it on, it has now become noisy at idle..

I have it all sorted now.

I have spent all of yesterday until 1am working on this car and uncovered a multitude of sins.
Replaced the cambelt and waterpump with help from the DVD – easy job really!
There was a chuck missing from the belt so I got to it just in time. It was also poorly fitted – cams 1&2 where a tooth out more or less.
There were no bolts fitted to the cambelt backing plate so this was rubbing on the tensioners. The waterpump pully had only 1 bolt holding it on.
I replaced the camcover seals, someone had sealed them up with a cement type sealant so it took me two hours to carefully clean up the covers and apply the new gaskets, o-rings and correct black sealant.
Replaced plugs and HT leads and flushed the cooling system.

Much more responsive and smoother and the problem has gone.  :)

Well I have just been out and checked.
Whoever had been there before had cable-tied the connectors in place and connected the wrong away around (multiram plug incorrectly fitted into the temp sensor) as Mark said!!

This must of been why they took the bulb out as the EML has now cleared.

Once the engine was warmed up, the misfiring comes back though...

Well I have taken the panel out and found someone had removed the bulb and holder!!!  :-[ very pissed off!

Fired it up and the EML is on.

Paperclip test shows 69, 144, 145 and 135?

Omega General Help / Help, no EML, problems...
« on: 22 February 2007, 14:05:56 »
Well I have just got the parts in to do all the work on my 3.0 1995 Elite (Cambelt kit + forum DVD, water pump, rocker gaskets etc) this weekend and now just my luck! this bloody thing has developed a fault :(

Once its warmed up a bit its running lumpy/misfiring like its running on 3 cylinders.
Last weekend I cleaned the breathers, checked the plugs/leads - it all looks ok, nothing swimming in oil.

I was going to check the EML, except there is no EML even when just the ignition is turned on? this does not seem right? has the previous owner taken the bulb out??  :(

Any advice on what to check/ possible common causes on this engine?

Thank you for all your responses.

Markjay that is what worries me too.

The car has done 140k,  I have been reading through the service history and there is no cambelt replacement detailed but it did have a head rebuild at 100k which included exhaust valve replacement (so I am wondering if the belt snapped at that time).

Omega General Help / 3.0 Advice
« on: 14 February 2007, 12:10:26 »
I have recently acquired a 1995/6 3.0 Elite but it has a few issues I want to sort out.

I have read through the forum but can’t get a definite answer on this one.

The first issue is that there is "tappet noise" when the engine is cold or has been idling a while. After I take it on a fast run it becomes quiet, but if left idle for a while the "tappet noise" reoccurs.
I have added Wynns Hydraulic Valve Lifter additive for a couple of weeks, given an oil flush and replaced the oil and filter with Mobil 1 full synthetic, but it hasn’t made any difference.
I also read this noise can be caused by a manifold leak? or are the lifters or cams had it?

Second issue is burning oil smell? but I believe this is the cam covers? so I will clean out the breather system and replace the cam cover gaskets and do the cam belt kit /water pump at the same time.

Third issue there is some brown sludge at the bottom on the header tank? Is this to be concerned too much about? The oil cooler is on the way out?
I was thinking of just doing a flush and refill?
