How do you replce side light bulbs? I looked behind the head light, saw the wiring connector and disconnected it and couldn't see how to get the bulb out. I could see some feasability of removing the headlamp lense but it just seems a little excessive to remove a blown bulb! Can anybody help?

Im getting water loss when me heaters are on and  coolant leaks at the backof the engine. Some say its the HBV, if so where is it on the 2.2?  I saw the HBV guide for the 3.0, but cant find it again so would appreciate any help. Thanks

No evidence of steam but current investigation is now to determin if it only uses water with the heater on. Its too bloody cold and wet (steamy windows) to try to commute without heating in rainy Manchester but I'll let you all know.
I seem to remember it didnt use water the other week when it was warm here, but will have to test for definate.

Cheers Peeps!

Thank you Sneaky Penguin, there is no oil or water where it shouldnt be so its a big sigh of relief. Never thought I,d get attached to a Vauxhall but this is a damn fine car!

As expressed in a previous posting, my paranoia of blown head gaskets has finally been justified by the fact my header tank needs a topping up every 100 miles or so with a half litre or so of water. Is it likey to be the HG or the HBV?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

With Vauxhall, you have to use the correct anti freeze as it has inhibitors in it to stop the HG corroding. Don't be tempted to skip the A/F....
Vauxhall Red seems to be the weapon of choice

Hmm, never thought of that and its a good point, thanks!

Thanks people, I guess I'm learning more as I drive it as per its readings ie uphill, downhill, parked on a kerb etc and the T/Comp has begun to tie in with the gauge. I guess the discrepencies may be because its been stood for 6 months and its beginning to losen up a bit. I shall be wary at around 40 miles and get to the pumps just to be safe.

Knowing a friend who is a mechanic, he had a guess at around £300 tho thats without costing new stretch bolts. Thats purely a price for a friend too and it could get to £400. Thanks for warning me about the price, it sends shivers but pity the poor Fiat Coupe owner who got charged £2300 just for the belt change...

The car only cost £200 (I know, I cant get over it either) as it was a part ex in a garage but now I'm waiting for the catch. Thanks everyone, wish me luck!

Hi, just got a 2.2CD and wondered whether to believe the TC on the subject of range. I ask because the fuel gauge has a mind of its own too.
Also does anybody know the approximate cost of parts for the head gasket replacement and skimming the head? Is it always necessary to do the waterpump and timing belt as well?
It hasnt gone yet, but Im wary of this as I had a Rover 820 Vitesse and it proved costly. Thanks
