Omega General Help / Re: Window Tinting
« on: 10 April 2011, 13:59:34 »
Yeah well, the fine  is already being paid.
But I thought that in the UK it was allowed...

anyway I will keep looking for an original coloured glass since I believe that makes it legal here.
I should check that 70% rule though

Omega General Help / Window Tinting
« on: 07 April 2011, 23:56:28 »
Hi

First off. I searched the forum on 'tint' and 'window' but I got no results pointing me to anything related to darkening of windows...

So my question.
Have you guys got experience in window tinting and that combined with legal allowance.

Problem: In Belgium the forward side windows may not be covered with anything not even a clear film.
No film, no paint.
Yet I want my front windows darkened...

How is the law in the UK regarding darkened windows?
Is it allowed?

Is for example the Monaro ever being delivered with naturally darkened glass?
(The way Vauxhall does with the Zafira nowadays...)

I'm asking since the Monaro is an Omega-derivate and thus probably carrying the same glass!
Which would get me a legal tint!  ;D

Hey thanks all for the very warm welcome.
I'm astonished...

Well the car has some improvements waiting...
Irmscher front and rear spoiler are waiting,
also the interior features some updates.
Hopefully all integrated during this winter...

Hello

My name is Stijn, from Belgium
and I'm an Omega freak from the first hour.
First car I drove was an Omega, never had something else.

I got the site pointed out by a friend from the Netherlands
so why not register...

My current ride is a 2002 2.5DTI Executive Caravan

Short after picking up the car in Berlin, the wiring harness was modified for Memory seating...

Latest addition, some 20" wheels

I also own another Omega A 2.3D LS from 1989:
The two brothers togheter

This car is my first car and my alltime backup.
Still took me to Berlin (800km) with only one stop (I needed some food :P) at his mere 19y of age.

The car in between these two was a 2002 2.5DTI Elegance Saloon, which served me well for 4 years until january this year.
He got crashed into a lighting pole on icy road.
May he rest in peace...

OK, It's quite a while ago since I checked the forum here, so here we go...

Last year the Omega was repainted completely.
A lady missed the parkingspot, scrubbing the front bumper.
And due to a lack of time and insurance pressure on the repair date, I couldn't do a decent polish to decide which panels to paint or not.
So on that point the obligatory Irmscher front and rear spoiler were fitted and also the rare Irmscher rear bumper, which was collected last minute in Germany.
The 'Heck' is off-course finished with a Doppel-Endrohr (by Irmscher)

By illuminat0r at 2010-06-27

Front and Rear bumper were foreseen of PDC:
Hmm, I don't seem to have a picture of the front PDC yet...
Rear:

And with explanation (in Dutch):
http://forum.opelomegaportal.nl/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=665#p8680

Full window tint, nice but not too dark:

And to further personalize the car, the B1 rear window heating was custom-fitted to the B2 rear panels.
Wiring added and working!

nice estate, does need a bit less space in the arches with the 20" on

hehe, yeah, more people told me about dropping it a few centimeters.
Somehow it could look nice, and in the last few weeks it's actually itching to do so, but I still don't wanna loose the Omega's Comfort (even running the 25% tyres on it)

Regarding the pic with the trailer it seem very small for a twin axle. Do you carry heavy loads in it? :y
No I usually don't pull anything along.  This was an exceptional day helping out a very close friend in moving.
It looks small but the complete setup was fairly heavy.
Inside the Caravan you could find a fish-bowl AND a piano taking up space from boot to front seat  :D
Later that day a crane/lift was hauled also, and I even lost one bolt on the driveaxle  :o

Love the wheels what brand
Hey thanks.
Wheels are Fox RS, second hand bought.
They were fitted to a Merc. E originally.
I'm using special bolts with loose nuts to adjust from 5x112 to 5x110

2.5TD is 'standard' straight-six turbo-charged, intercooled.
used until approximately 2001. Also found in de BMW 525tds.
Delivers 130hp.

The 2.5DTI is an evolution of this engine.
also straight-six off course.
It has common-rail fuel injection and variable inlet valves.
Delivers 150hp and 300Nm standard.  Most perform right above those numbers ;)
You can find this engine in the 525d E39.
Later BMW used further improved versions (193hp i thought),
and currently only the 3.0l is still available under de 525d badge

hehe, standard 15" steel rims in 'dirty black' :)
Right the same as the car usually looks in the winter :P

Actually the upcoming winter will be the first for this Omega for me.
I currently have a set of 195/65 15 I brought along when buying the car, but i prefer the 205/65 15, noticeablye better handling on the 'big Omega B'.
The 195 is actually ideal for the Omega A.

But we'll see. If I really don't like the 195 again i'll just get a new set.

I'm also thinking over a set of spikes, for the really bad days.
I could live with the reduced allowable maximum speed on those tires since they will only run very little.
I just don't want to risk skidding on ice once more.

Hey Glenn, geweldige reeks foto's.
Heb hier ook even aangemeld.
Als je nog eens naar een Opel of Omega meeting trekt in Engeland wil ik wel es mee (en ik denk ook wel enkele NL'ers ;))

Sorry guys, just a few words in Dutch for my fellow Omega-driver from Belgium  :P
And indeed, what are 'floorboards'?

Ok, these images scared the s* out of me.
It looks way worse then my crash in january.
I'm happy to read you are OK, because this many damage never promises good things to passengers.

Try and select a new Omega, I'm sure you'll find a good one...
Still a pity.
