Omega General Help / Re: Tracking and tyres

Just been down to my local Tyre place as I had a slow puncture on the rear left ... turns out the tyre is worn all the way down on the inside

The shop reckon 4 new tyres and quoted £481.50 including front tracking does this sound a little pricey?...and is therea way top adjust the rear tracking?

It is a 2.5 elite slaoon btw

I would shop around mate, thats pretty expensive

I have an omega CDX but with 'elite' wheels ... I fit 225/16 tyres on...any brand...I pay £70 a corner

If I ever buy tyres I haggle a bit if I need tracking...it only takes 5 mins or so to track the front wheels and most tyre centres will throw it in if you buy a couple (or 4 tyres off them)

if not....walk away. There are lots of other tyre centres about who need your business

Omega General Help / Annoying problems on 2.5 CDX auto!
« on: 28 January 2010, 15:33:47 »
Heres an unusual problem

The passenger door light (the small oval one built into the door card) stays on when the door is closed ....but only at half the brightness :o

When the door is opened it comes on fully as usual ....but shut the door again and it wont completely turn off even when the engine is switched off.

Popped the cover off and disconnected one of the wires to the light...the light went out... butat which point the 'Check coolant' warning message appeared on the computer

Checked the coolant...and it was fine

Strange one innit :(

Also the sunroof has a nasty habit of opening itself to the tilt position without warning...not good when it chucking it down with rain and the first thing you notice is when you feel water dripping in

Should I call a priest and get the old girl exorcised or are these common faults?

Omega General Help / Backlight Bulbs blown on 'screen'
« on: 08 December 2009, 16:29:42 »
On my 2.5 P Reg Omega the backlight blulbs have blown on the 'information screen' (forgotten the correct term for it....the thing that lists fuel consumption, range, faults etc etc!)

The screen is still working........if the sun (remember that?) is shining in the right way then you can just about make out the information on there.

Is this an easy job to do?

I'm assuming I have to remove the stereo ....sadly I've lost the tool that takes it out though  >:(

Selector switch on side of gearbox needs removing, stripping and cleaning with a decent switch contact cleaner. Check ATF level also.

Thanks Rob... is this a simple job? Is there a 'how to guide' on this forum?

Omega General Help / Auto Transmission fault
« on: 19 November 2009, 14:34:22 »
Hi there

New to the forum so apologies if this problem has already been covered.

I have a 1996 2.5 CDX Auto...lovely car. However recently whilst driving (usually in heavy traffic) suddenly I will feel a 'clunk' ...all the little led lights next to the auto gear stick will light up and I will have to change gear manually. At this point the 'sports' button doesnt work either

The problem resolves itself when I switch the engine off and then re start... so I'm assuming this is an electrical fault that reboots itself or something.

Also....my reversing lights only used to work when I held the gearstick inbetween 'R' and 'N' .....now they dont work at all!!

I'm suspecting a faulty switch.

My mechanical knowledge is pretty average....well.....not wonderful at all to be honest.

What can these problems be??

Are they easy for an idiot to repair?

If not can anyone tell me the precise problem so I don't look a goose when I turn up at my local garage

thanks

Dave :D

General Car Chat / Top speed of a 2.5 V6 auto?
« on: 12 July 2010, 16:36:21 »
Without sounding like a spotty 17 year old.... how fast will a 2.5 V6 automatic go?

Naturally I don't condone speeding on UK roads.... but my 1997 2.5 V6 hit 135mph... and I reckon there might have been a bit more there... only I ran out of road .... I mean 'Autobahn'  :y

When you have the sporty button on and its running well.... what a fantastic car the Omega is

A real bargain for just £500!!!
