i'm really at a loss with this now.  Not my preferred option but I am looking at wiring in some sort of resister to fool the light so I can get the NCT, i'll be telling anyone buying the car in the future that the airbags don't work.

I hate it when a problem beats me, but ploughing money into it isn't worth it

passenger.  I've heard from another mechanic that some code readers can get confused between LHD & RHD cars and it could be talking about a LHD passenger sensor, which would mean the drivers side of my car - thoughts?

Bad news, fault still showing and it won't clear.  Fault is 'lateral airbag sensor'.

So wiring checked and ok, sensor replaced and problem still there.

My mechanic reckons that it must be the airbag ecu - what do you think guys?

Update on this - i sourced a 2nd hand lateral airbag sensor (just behind the courtesy light in the passengers door) and fitted it.  (10 euro in the local scrapyard :-) )

The light hasn't switched off but i'm heading to the garage tomorrow for him to reset it.

FINGERS CROSSED!!!

well tried the door connector, cleaned it and reset the light but now joy.  The mechanic has traced checked all the wiring leading from the lateral airbag sensor (bottom left of passenger door) back to the ECU and nothing wrong, he's sure the fault is in the sensor itself.  Opel want 130euro, i'm thinking scrapyard - what do ye think?

He also said that if I plug in a new one and switch on and off the ignition the light should clear itself?  Is this true or does it need to be plugged in?

Cheers!  I'd say it hurts alright  ;)

Where is that connector though? Inside the door (doortrim off job?)

Checked the locks and if I push down the passenger lock it just locks that door, not the others and I can pull it up again.

Thanks for replying lads.

First question - whats TIS?

2nd question - where's the main loom connector for the door - i will try to connect and clean this connection.  Well the garage may as well do it becuase they will have to reset the light anyway for it to go off - assuming that fixes it.

I'll also check with him what code reader it is, fault code, live data and which side.

Will also check the door locks...

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Airbag light (garage unable to fix)
« on: 14 September 2010, 22:38:10 »
Hi guys, done a search on this but nothing coming up for me with an answer.

Airbag light on consantly, so sent it down to the garage and they found 3 faults, 2 of which were fixed by them cutting out the connector blocks under the seat and wiring them direct.

Reset and it's still showing one remaining fault for 'lateral airbag sensor' - thats what he told me.

They are scractching their heads a bit - anyone know what this is or where I could find it and lastly - how to fix it!

Thanks

Omega General Help / Re: Coolant Loss

Thanks guys, I think I've found it, signs of sprayed coolant at filler cap and top of airbox so the cap needs replacing I think. Fingers crossed!

Omega General Help / Coolant Loss
« on: 07 September 2011, 00:27:54 »
The car has been lying up for 2 months and I've been doing a few jobs as I'm putting it back on the road.

My old header tank used to weep a bit of coolant through the cap, I'd say about a cupfull every 500 miles, the coolant level sensor was also shot in it so I replaced the tank with a 2nd hand one with a good sensor.

I filled it back up with roughly 50/50 coolant mix.  Now it has started drinking coolant - about 1.5 litres in 150 miles (90mph motorway drive).....

I went out to it today and filled it up from cold to the correct level, left cap off and ran the car until warm to ensure there was no air in the system.

I then gave it a good reddining (cap on) and examined the pipes for leaks - nothing.

No mayonnaise on filler cap or dipstick, no white smoke when it's hot, so is that enough to rule out Head Gasket Failure?

Any thoughts on what this is / how to diagnose the problem?

Omega General Help / Re: Quick lesson in clutch bleeding please
« on: 05 September 2011, 23:37:25 »
Sorted - this was not a hard job if done right from the start.

I used a hydraulic easibleed in the conventional manner, hooked straight onto the reservoir - cracked open the slave nipple and bingo, a heap of air and 20 secs later I have one bled clutch.  Couldn't be simpler.

I think the problem with the 2 man method is that the feed for the clutch master cylinder pipe from the reservoir is at the top of the reservoir and it can very easily take in air....

Anyway, if anyone tries to do this in the future go out and spend the 25uro on an easibleed and try it my way first, it won't take long to see if it works or not.

Holy thread resurection Batman!

I've swapped servo's and need to bleed out the clutch as air got in the system.

I'm having troubles bleeding it though, so far I've tried -

- 2 man method (not getting anywhere after a half hour and I'm spending 2 hours like some people have)

- Block of wood on pedal and reservoir open (no chnage in pedal)

- Reverse bleeding via tube and syringe onto nipple, tried with pedal up and pedal held down, making sure nipple is open when syringing - the problem I'm having with this method is it won't take the fluid with pressure and it ends up leaking at the nipple or at the syringe end of the pipe, or the pipe blows off eventually as I put a lot of pressure, despite the pipe being a good fit.

I'm going to buy an easy bleed now to reverse bleed it unless someone has another suggestion?

Finally, how do I modify the easibleed and should I have the pedal up or down when doing it?

Omega General Help / Anyone swapped a servo?
« on: 24 August 2011, 21:36:00 »
2litre petrol manual, pre facelift.

I have the servo out, new one in but for the life of I can't get one nut onto it's threads - this is one of the 3 nuts that retain the servo to the bulkhead, in the footwell.

The bottom and right nuts I can get on fine but the top left nut is an absolute b1tch to get started onto the threads.  The problem is access, not only is the pedal box an awkward place to work with the dash in place but there is 2 metal flanges (part of the housing / brackets for both the brake pedal and clutch pedal mounting points) that prtroud about 4 inches from the bulkhead and there is about 3 inches between them to fit this nut onto the servo bolt.

Way too small to get a hand into and really awkward to get an extension / knuckle joint square enough to turn the nut onto the threads.....

Not sure if any of this is making sense but if anyone has done this before can they tell me how on earth they got this nut on??

Priced a new one today in the main dealer - 50 euro - what a joke dealers are in Ireland.

think i found it - dangling be the wires by the horns - is it a small black (like the size of a 50p coin) with a push in locator at one end and an electrical connector at the other end?

It was a bit corroded so we cleaned up the connectors which worked for a while but it was gone crazy again this evening - will probably just replace it.

Where does it locate into though - couldn't find a home for it...
