Omega General Help / Re: Heater bypass valve?  Any advice?
« on: 06 March 2007, 07:27:42 »

2002 V6 cdx auto. I have a leak from what I thought was a heater hose behind engine. My local garage think it's a valve and say it's a big job. After 5 days they still have not come up with a price, stating waiting to hear from Vauxhall dealer.. They guess £100-£150 for part and 4 hours labour. (Remove wiper mechanism etc) Am only able to do 2-3 miles before warning shows and don't like using it but like walking less!. Any one familliar with this job.
If your not confident to do the job yourself, try asautocare he is a VX specialist only in widnes (2 mins of runcorn bridge) I would personaly reccomend him and he does a special offer for software updates for OOF members, see my other thread  8-)

Omega General Help / Re: Autobox software upgrade
« on: 01 April 2007, 08:48:59 »
had mine updated, but at the same time had the engine managment software done, running on LPG means I don't really see mcuh diffrenace in the engine managment but the car runs very smooth, had the cruise control fitted at the same time, so now I don't even use an accelorator  :y easy motoring

has anyone ever chaged the aircon pipes on a omega B facelift, the pipes leaking are the ones that look like there going into the inner wing..

hi there, thing you will need to add a little more detail about your gas system before it can be diagnosed, however I can suggest that the throttle body will have nothing to do with it, LPG feeds through a diffrent route either a mixer ring at air intake or multi injection goes directly into inlet manifold so really don't think the throtle body will effect your gas system, have you had your gas system tuned or managed on a computer recently ? what gas system is fitted ? does it have a partical filter?

only things that I can think of at the top of my head without all the info

This seems to have sparked a very interesting debate, and I am truely grateful for all the comments. Lukie's suggestion sounds good. So if there is anybody living near Leicester who wouldnt mind me having a drive of their 2.2 or 2.5 and giving me some mechanical advice then let me know and I will get in touch.

Thanks again for the comments.

Ong

I'm based in the north west so a good 100 miles drive to me, it's the easiest way to find out what engine your need, maybe look in the auto trader / dealers try test drive some there ?

Wise people, I seek your advise.
I am updating my 1996 Omega estate 2L 8v. Its served well but I need something with a bit more power, which means any other engine. I am looking at a 2000 model in estate and manual form. The options available are 2.2 diesel, 2.2 petrol or 2.5 petrol. I would convert a petrol to LPG if I got one. I am keen on reliability as I don't have the time or money to spend keeping it on the road. I don't know what these engines are like so would much appreciate your views on the best buy.

Thanks

Ong.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago when buying my 406, luckily I had a mate who work for peugeot so I simply went and test drove every engine possibal, maybe you should let people know where you are and possabliy go see some of our working cars go for a ride see what you think...

I'm currently running a 2.2 facelift on single point LPG, can't really fault it, quick enough for me off the mark, and returning fuel ecconomy like a fiesta ! 200 miles aprox £20 !

only real advise I could offer (not had mine long) is to get the ECU and autobox software updated (or even a facelift model add crusie control) best bit of money I have spent on it yet !

the software updates makes a hell of a diffrence suprising really

Question for any of you guys that have had their autobox software upgraded; have you noticed any warning lights come up on the dashboard of any kind, since the upgrade, as I was talking to a Vauxhall engineer recently and we were discussing the upgrades and he tells me that  in some cases it has been known for random warning lights  showing themselves since upgrades on some vehicles, has anyone else found this ?
Cheers Pete

Yes mate I did, to be honest it was faults already in the system that didn't show up on the older software, I was also told by the guy that did mine that your throtle body needs to be clean for the latest ECU update to work properly, lucky enough mine was all good !

The lights on dash were taken out instatly by the mechanic and a new sensor fitted all was well again

By the sound of it you might be referring to the engine ECU, what we are talking about here is the automatic gearbox ECU (also known as TCM for Transmission Control Module)?

your right, I'm sorry, I had both my engine and my gearbox one done at the same time, the greabox entered into limp mode when I drove off from the garage, took it back had the code read and reset everything great since it's done, it's very strange that such a small upgrade can make such a diffrence !

Omega General Help / Re: Fitting reverse sensor's / wireing help

I bridged the relay base with a short wire with a male spade connector on each end - a temporary fix that has been installed for the last 18/24 months  ::)

is there only 2 connectors where the relay would live ? not had a real good look at it yet, but did drop the fuse box cover to see a relay missing on the bottom row, don't mind bridging the gap as I won't be using the towbar often just want it all to work if I do want it....

If you remove the hard plastic trim just on the inside of the boot OK done, that bit all fine over to the driver's side of the car you'll find a plug and socket that will provide (almost) all the feeds you'll need. There's a blue/black loop of wire on the socket that's maintaing a supply to the car's rear fog lights - this is the socket you need.
When I say almost all the feeds, the supply you will also need is the brake light feed (black/yellow?) I have a black / yellow feed on that plug that I have wired up. If you were to have a proper GM tow bar loom fitted then you'll need a trailer brake light check 'relay' am I able to get one of these relays from somewhere ?which lives above the driver's feet, or as I have done, just bridge the 'relay' or can you tell me how to bridge the relay ? base so that it feeds the socket in the boot.

I have used the plastic plug to get all my wireing, all checked only 2 wires left after wireing one was black / yellow which is same as going to the brake lights, and the black / white wire which I found out was reverse light curcuit (will need this in a few days when reverse sonsor kit arrives)

Omega General Help / Fitting reverse sensor's / wireing help
« on: 27 February 2007, 17:58:21 »
HI there, I have decided to fit a reverse sensor to my car, but I need a little help...

does anyone know what colour the posative wire is for the revers lights ? I'm guessing I can take a feed from inside the boot above where the spare wheel lives ? also dose the onboard computer take a reading of resistance from a lighting curcuit or does it just see that the curcuits has been closed ?

I'm going to fit a towbar to it aswell (don't worrk it's a removeable one so won't ruin it's looks ;D) can I just cut into the wires and add the sockect for lights or will this cuase problems with the onboard computer's breaklight check ect...
