Thanks for all help...
I'll do the glowplugs then next time I have some .(time)
I have heard also that sometimes a plug or two can ''fuse'' to the head...is that true? If so what on earth can be done then?? Would still like to know if there is a ''how to'' on this subject too if poss.

Thanks again in anticipation etc...  Mike.

Just another thought...

When it does start it runs like a dream, so if a glowplug or two had gone, would it not also affect the general running of the car?
As I said...just a thought.
Mike

Hi again and thanks for all the info!
Just one thing...is there a specific procedure for removal of the glowplugs? I have heard for example that No6 closest to the bulkhead is a bit of a pig...Does much have to be removed?

Thanks again...Mike.
PS..no I havent done the paperclip test yet.

How do I check/test the glow plugs? ''Easy'' you say?  I hope so.

Cheers...Mike

Omega General Help / TD cold start probs
« on: 25 January 2010, 10:06:33 »
Hi...
New here from another site. Ive got a non starting TD in this recent cold weather. The battery and alternator are both good and I've been told the glow plugs are also good. I have dismantled and cleaned the in tank pump and it is good too . As I turn the engine it nearly fires but wont and as i turn her over I get the usual blanket of smoke as it turns. It has on occasion started but rarely and when it does a huge pall of smoke comes out. Is there such a thing on this BMW engined car as a fuel heater? If so should I be looking to replace it? I dont know what else I should do as this now has me foxed. Although an old girl (1998) I am loathe to get rid of her. I wouldnt get much for her anyway and she's only done 90000 (genuine)
Please Please Please help me if at all possible.
Thanks...Mike
