Omega General Help / Completely dead Omega - Help!
« on: 02 October 2008, 19:47:27 »
Hi,

I bought an Audi A8 a few months back so my other half has been using the Omega to drive about in. We went on holiday for 2 weeks, and then when we got back, the key fob wouldn't open the doors.

I changed the battery in the keyfob, as I have done before, and still nothing opens - I can't find the spare keyfob. The problem with my Omega is that in the past, before I owned it, someone has tried to break in and knackered the key barrel on the drivers door, so I have always just used the remote.

I thought it might be a dead battery, so today with my best contortionist skills, I entered through the back passage (the boot!), and managed to pop the bonnet and put the battery on charge. After about 3 hours though, there is still no difference.

I can't pop the locks from the inside, presumably because of the deadlocks. If it helps with diagnosis, the boot lock made a very laboured sound which made me think it may be battery related, and the minute we put the battery on charge, the alarm went off a couple of times but I am guessing this is due to disturbing the inside of the car. Although it didn't go off while I was wriggling around inside it.

Can anyone help me so that I can get the sodding door open and drive it to a garage so someone can fix it? Cheers, Chris.

Omega General Help / Re: 1996 CDX 2.5 V6 ECU Reset / Resonator
« on: 01 March 2007, 20:50:38 »
So does anyone know how to reset the ECU - I've been told to just disconnect the battery for a while? Do MTek reset the ECU when they fit chips and if so whereabouts in the country are they?

If my car has a resonator in the induction system, is it something I can remove and if so how? Ta

Don't know really. From what he said, if I removed the resonator it would growl even more than it does now. He said I should reset the ECU so it can sort of re-learn how to work only with the induction kit feeding it more air. Something about his didn't do much until he reset the ECU, then it learnt how to work with the induction kit, and then it made a difference to it.

I was guessing that if I had it chipped, that also would require resetting the ECU, so I may as well get it chipped at the same time.

Omega General Help / 1996 CDX 2.5 V6 ECU Reset / Resonator

I fitted a pipercross induction kit, and one of my housemates said that when he did the same to his car, he got big benefits by resetting the ECU and removing the resonator. How would I go about doing this on my Omega? Its a 1996 CDX V6 2.5. Its at the garage at the minute so I might be able to ask them to do it.

I looked through lots of forum pages from google trying to find out so sorry if its been asked before. On one it said it takes 100 miles for the ECU to learn its new settings, so would I have to drive it easy for 100 miles in this case, or just normally?

I've been thinking of getting it chipped by superchips as well, so presumably resetting the ECU would have to be done in this case too - ie would it be a good idea to get it chipped at the same time? Ta.

Omega General Help / Omega B and C Front End Panels
« on: 21 February 2007, 00:49:37 »
I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 3.0 manual elite, and am pondering maybe a 3.2 facelift one. The problem is, I prefer the front end look of the older models. Is it possible to change bonnet, headlights, and grill (and maybe more parts), for that of the older Omega B, and is it a straightforward job to do it? Or does anyone make an aftermarket bonnet/grill for the Omega C where the upper edge of the grill is in line with the upper edge of the headlights so it doesn't look as odd.

Ta for any help.

Hi.

Thought it might pay to join a forum like this to get better info on parts and where to get them from time to time.

My Omega is currently at the garage for its MOT.

Its a 1996 2.5 V6 CDX with the leather and heated seat option pack. I've fitted a Pipercross induction kit, to make it growl like a V6 should, a Remus backbox, and some 17" wheels. The towbar should have been removed by the next time I see it.

Looks great. I'm particularly chuffed because it means my theory about changing front ends is right. Which parts did you have to change, and which were the same? Were there any problems during the transplant? I'm thinking of putting a pre-facelift front end on a facelift omega.
