Omega General Help / Omega 16v 2.2 Auto HEAD GASKET
« on: 14 November 2010, 23:23:49 »
I've just picked up a lovely dark green metallic 2.2 auto with single point lpg fitted to it. Got nice alloys, full service history, new brakes, exhaust, lower arms ... the previous owner spared no expense by the looks of it.

The head gasket has gone, and my question is, what is the likelyhood that the head is no good on these engines? I've owned a 2.2 16 valve for 3 years and never had head gasket problems, so i'm assuming, if i get the head gasket done along with a few other small jobs like water pump and cam belt while it's stripped down, and get the head pressure tested and skimmed should i be ok in the long run keeping the car?

any thoughts would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Re: Which wax?
« on: 12 October 2010, 21:40:39 »
I tend to wash the car, use some tar & glue remover on the lower parts of the front door panels or where ever tar has splattered up the sides, then put on a coat of Carnuba Gold from autosmart (£5 last time i checked for a tub, lasts ages) gives it a cracking shine, then being the pervert i am, put a layer of autoglym extra gloss protection over the top.

this is a once a year job for as the results are good.

once or twice a week i then wash the car, spray some "tango" over the car (from autosmart) sponge it all in, jet wash it all off and leather it... bingo, looks like it's just been waxed again and beads like buggery... :y

Omega General Help / Re: Fault Code......... Do i repair or scrap??
« on: 20 February 2010, 15:34:27 »
Like suggested, get someone with a good code reader to give it a once over, but I can tell you from experience, a duff ECU can throw codes up, leading you to go on a hunt for non faulty parts as well as making the car run poor, or not at all.

If it does turn out to be a faulty ecu (god forbid) there is a garage who is on ebay that can supply you with a replacement ecu, chips etc tailored to your car. costs about £250 or there abouts..  worth bearing in mind if this ever happens to you.

Omega General Help / Re: Ticking noise
« on: 31 January 2010, 16:31:30 »
If it wasn't "ticking" when you brought the car in then something is not right...

However, my 2.2Cd was "ticking" which was annoying, so I've just had a new set of lifters put in, and while the lads were at it they did a new cam belt kit, water pump, plugs and rocker gasket. They did a cracking job and now it runs and sounds like a new engine even though it's got 122k on the clock.

It may be a case of you need a set of lifters maybe..
