^  same here, though the service had made a huge difference to the car's performance, it feels much more lively now and the fuel gauge has "slowed down" a little  ;)

I think a new tensioner would come as a part of the timing belt kit...?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Noisy alternator
« on: 07 April 2010, 07:49:12 »
I had a big engine service this week, timing belt kit, water pump, "fan" belt, rocker cover gasket, spark plugs, oil etc. but the alternator was disturbed and has started whining - the garage said it was charging +14.55 volts and is working ok but that noise means the bearing needs changing - is this an easy job?

RESULT!  ;D

I went to my local friendly Halfords store and they only charged £1.99 to remove the old cassette player using their removal tools... I slotted the  CD player/radio  straight in, working beautifully!  :D

thanks Andy!  8-)

thanks TB!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio/Cassette player removal
« on: 12 March 2010, 09:32:09 »
Would like to know how i can remove my old standard Radio/Cassette player from my dashboard, there seems to be two holes either side of the unit - does it need a special removal tool or can i make one up myself?

many thanks in anticipation  :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Sidelight Bulb Issue
« on: 28 February 2010, 19:38:50 »
In any other application would say faulty power issue like a power surge caused by faulty regulator, only thing i can think of is - are the bulb pins fitted tight enough in the bulb socket? a sharp shock or rattle could break the "mantle" (for use of a better word) inside the bulb. :-/

i popped into to "Halfrauds" in my lunch break, no wonder all their branches are conveniently place in shopping centres, i was shocked at the price but Vx dealer is much further away, but won't be buying lamps from there in future  :-?

actually these were the cheapo version, the  "heavy duty" ones were over six pounds....

...should i be writing to my MP or "Watchdog" ?   ::)

Sorted - Halfords HBU581 £4.79 a pair fitted perfectly, non-offset pins - they are amber in colour, though their chart was wrong, they said these are for the front but are for the rear, the front ones should be clear.  ;)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Yellow indicator bulbs..?
« on: 26 February 2010, 13:25:51 »
...yes, my local Vx dealer said they need changing as they have lost their colour and are showing white - can't i just give them a squirt of yellow paint?  will this do or are they "special".    :-/

you do have to "peer" a bit under the steering wheel to see the temp/petrol gauges, i think an audible alarm would be a good idea, there is one to tell you your lights are on when you open the door so why not for something really important?  :-/

I looked at most systems before deciding on TomTom One XL - it just suited my view of things, and has only let me down on input error, like everything some commonsense is needed  :-[

One criticism is if you are driving around the borders of  greater London it seems to want you to gravitate towards central London / Shepherd's bush Green for some reason ..?  :-/

It does allow you to update it occasionally, though i haven't worked out how to report dead-ends yet  ::), but overall it has saved me a lot of time and petrol since i bought it a year or so ago, wish i'd got one years ago  :y
