Omega General Help / Re: Bodywork retro-fitting
« on: 19 April 2012, 10:18:34 »
That's brill.  Completely transforms the rear end on the pre fl car!    Would a FL Boot and rear wing lights fit too?  (Although you'd not be able to open the boot...)

Omega General Help / Re: lpg
« on: 19 April 2012, 08:37:47 »
I've long considered an LPG conversion as like many of you, we all like big engined powerful cars, but don't like tip-toeing round in them. (Kinda defeats the object...) so LPG might be the answer.  But I didn't know that it affected your insurance at all? Or that some won't even insure it.   This is odd.
I used to have a Nitrous bottle in the back of my carlton, and you could argue that this is more dangerous than LPG but never had an issue insuring that.  (Mind you, it was a high premium regardless, so I think it probably didn't affect it that much anyway..)

JB Weld will sort that...

Not essential to remove stat to flush the system properly, although it may well make it easier/quicker.
It will need flushing a lot more than you think it does. They always do ime.use a strong flushing agent such as forte to shift the worst of it.Then use automatic washing machine liquid -tip a cupful into the header tank, drive the car as normal (as long as it isnt overheating) then drain and flush with a hose or something else which isnt banned at the moment.
Do this every day for at least a week, and if your lucky it will be all clean inside and you can then fill up with nice new VX coolant.

And the car will smell like Persil Summer Fresh?

Ok.  so I did the double hose trick and a whole load of white gunk came out.   Was like Expandable foam!!!
Did it both ways for about 10mins each way and had clear water.   Reconnected and yep.  Toasty warm!
Also (And I know it's not the preferred method) I let the car heat up so that the Therm opens and then I drained it.  Then topped it up with water again and let it heat up and then drained again whilst hot and did this a few times.
The oil doesn't appear to be going down at all so that's reassuring...
It's so gunked up in there it's hard to tell how clear it is...
where is the Thermostat and how hard is it to remove to flush it properly?
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90603.0

So basically i have to nearly do the whole job again to get to it??  so it would have been better to flush it at this point of the re-assembly before I put the manifold back on?    But to do a flush, you need to run the engine...

Thanks.
Just found this guide: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90620.msg1155537 so will try this and flush it out as much as I can, then follow this with the radiator flushing stuff.  (I have a Holts one from Halfrauds...)
I assume to do this while the heater is on full to ensure that the fluid gets in there also.
Then fingers crossed!

Omega General Help / Re: Oil change 1 done 1 to go?
« on: 16 April 2012, 13:48:09 »
Just hope that a previous owner hasn't over tightened it!   Otherwise the whole casing will turn.
This happened to me and I had to buy one of those metal straps to hold the case still while I opened the cap.  Then tighten the allen bolt inside the housing so it's not spinning anymore and then when re-fitting the cap, only to 15nm!

Hi all.
I have been all over the forum and dug out all of the How to guides regarding the Oil Cooler.  And successfully did this job. (It was quite enjoyable, but fiddly in parts... mainly getting the overtightened Oil filter housing undone!!!)

Quick story, is that there was a lot of oil in the Expansion bottle on my 2.5V6.  Figured it'd be the Cooler not the Head Gasket. (So I hoped...)
I stripped the car down as per the instructions and the well that the oil cooler sits in was FULL of Mayonaise.  This was reassuring as It kind of proved that this was the part at fault and not the head...

I refited the new part with the correct Grey sealant.  Left it 24hrs or more.   Filled it up with water and drained several times.  Sat it with a hose running through it for ages and sludge was slowly coming out...
Once it seemed fairly clear. I put some rad flush agent in to clean it thorougly.   After about 5mins, sludge started to come up slowly out of the expansion bottle.   Not a surprise to me as water flushing alone won't flush the oil.   Anyway.  LOADS more sludge drained out of the system.  Ran it again, water only (not for long, as water boils really fast!) and had the heater on full.

THIS is my issue... with the temp gauge reading around 80. (or just under) I would have expected warm air from the heater.. NOTHING.  Still freezing cold (it was a cold day).

Is there likely to be loads of sludge in the heater matrix?   Or is there likely to be another scary reason that it wn't heat up?
I have gone out to buy another flush and will do this again with the heater on later tonight.  But I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue after doing an oil cooler replacement.

Omega General Help / Replacing the rear wing.
« on: 18 May 2011, 11:50:05 »
Had a little accident with the car. (someone ran in to the back of it)  Damage looks to be localised to new rear bumper and rear n/s wing.   If this was a front wing it'd be easy and bolt on, but the rear is a little more complicated.
Has anyone tackled this and got any guidelines to how I would go about replacing this?

Thanks.

Getting somewhere now.
got a Vauxhall Technician to run a tech 2 on it and it came back with:
P1222: Critical System Malfunction 1
GlowPlug General Error

That's helpfull!!!

Then they put a bosch test system on it running from a laptop and it came up with:
P1220: Start of Injection Control Deviation.

Further investigation into live data showed:
Injection Pump Speed Signal: 411-433 (Fluctuating)
Start of Injection Control Target: 4.9-5.1
Start of Injection Control Actual: 0.9

He unplugged the Crank sensor and it flagged up as an RPM fault, then plugged back in and it went again, so I'm confident it's not that.

Any Ideas Now I have error codes?

Ok.  An update.  I was looking around and found a link on a Vectra forum. (http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10492&page=3)
It kind of hinted that the boost hose going from the turbo to the intercooler is prone to splitting!  Something has gone all of a sudden as I was driving flat out, so I took it off, and NOPE.. No split.

there are dozens of tiny little vacuum hoses all over the engine.  Do I need to be taking them all off and checking them all????

The car really struggles to start.  But after cranking it for a few mins, it will start, smoke then when you rev it, the limp mode kicks in.

I borrowed a Sealey VS8700 code reader from work, and plugged that in.   "NO CODES STORED"   >:(
Is this cause it's a rubbish OBD reader? Or cause it's not compatible with the 2.2dti?

I think I need a proper Tech2 on it but it's finding someone with one or I'll be charged a fortune at VX for one.

Also, there is a lot of talk about my EGR valve?  Where is that and can it be cleaned or does it need replacing?  Could this cause an error like this?
Sorry for all the info, but I know it can help when diagnosing via a forum....

hello, im new to this site but have an omega 51 plate with the same 2.2dti engine, there is very little info on this engine online and im having problems with mine, a good start may be to change the mass air sensor located between turbo and filter housing or check the turbo itself, on the turbo is a round silver thing" boost gage i think" disconecting the pipe attatched should get the turbo spinning constantly and should atleast show you if the turbo is knackered if it dont spin, you may be able to clean the maf with electrical cleaner as its only a wire but replacing hopefully may give your lump its power back

Ok.  I have this morning tried what you suggested.  I found the round silver thing attached to the turbo.   I removed the vacuum hose and the plunger next to it moved.  The turbo didn't spin up faster than it did when i didn't remove it.  I have removed the air hose tho' and can see the turbo is spinning so it's not seized.  but when the EML comes on a few secs after starting, it will not rev past 1000RPM.   It's in some kind of limp home mode. I had a crank sensor die on my 3.0l v6 and it would kill the engine revs completely!  Rev counter to zero etc...  Not a limp mode like this.   of course the DTi might react differently.  is this the case?

I don't know what else to do.  I guess I need to get the code....

Omega General Help / Sudden loss of all power. no more than 1000RPM
« on: 25 October 2010, 22:09:39 »
Hi.  I have a 2.2DTI omega on a Y reg.  (Facelift?)
it's been fine till today I drove home and suddenly lost all power.  Felt like it'd run out of fuel but it hadnt.   The Engine Management Light came on and smoke came out of the exhaust as if there is unburned fuel.   When ticking over, it's ok, but if i press the throttle it will struggle and only rev to 1000RPM.  Foot FLAT DOWN.   It will smoke.
Just looked and it would appear that you need to have a code reader to read the actual codes as the Paper clip test doesn't work!

Engine Temp was fine, Coolant level's are fine.  Sounds electrical to me but what?

Has anyone else had this issue before?   Is there anyone in the Wellingborough area with a Code reader that would be willing to pop round and test it for me?

Thanks.

Steve

Omega General Help / Early seats in a facelift.
« on: 15 August 2010, 22:07:59 »
Will Early Omega seats fit into a Facelift?  There are many Older shapes for breaking with leather and want leather in my car.

Also, would a Carlton GSi Seat fit?  they too have recaro seats and would look/feel great in the Omega.
