Hi russy, Like you i have just bought a 2001 2.2cd auto with simmilar problem! it turned out it was the water pump impeler broken caused of some numpty bypassing heater matrix because of leek & not replacing antifreeze! Had it replaced along with timing belt £135 all in, it runs great now but cabin fills with steam when it reaches temp :'(so now need to replace matrix! Easy way to check pump is if top of engine gets hot & bottom stays cold :y

imho your recirculation valve (or whatever the name) is stuck close.. so it keeps the mist inside .. try activating -deactivating ..

if you dont hear the plop sound its stuck and not working..
..........and if anyone can claim to be an expert on Turkish Baths it'll be Cem  ::)

Hi guys, Baught my 2001 2.2 cd two weeks ago, nothing but head ache so far but i wont give in to it! 1st off there was a heating problem,Turned out that there was no antifreeze in coolant & with the bad weather we had recently froze up when they tried starting it the impeller broke on the water pump!got that sorted no problem running now but when it reaches temp the inside starts to steem up like a Turkish bath mostly on passenger side :'(
Am i correct in thinking its going to be heater matrix? :o
If im correct any ideas why it only seems to steem on the passenger side?

Update re no heater! Whilst i was away on a booze cruise this weekend iv had some work done on problem, It looks as if before i bought the car it as had a problem with heater matrix (ie) leaking coolant! so some idiot blanked it off & yes just replaced it with neet water (no antifreeze) of coarse with the cold snap we had froze up, then when they tried to start it up it caused the impellers to brake off on the water pump (hence hot top end cold lower end) the car runs without overheating now :y, next step to try heater matrix! Any help or advice gladly appreciated. :-X
