Thanks for the helpful replies. I'm hoping to go back to the dealer who did it and present them with the invoice detailing the work they did to correct the tracking and the two new tyres they put on and show them that they're as bad now as before they did the work. Hopefully they'll give me a big discount  .. at least!

Would changing a front shock absorber affect the tracking? I had a problem last year with both front tyres badly worn on the inner edge. I had the tracking done at the local dealer and both tyres replaced, 11 months later and both tyres are badly worn exactly the same as last time. In December I replaced the front nearside shock absorber which was leaking, could that have affected the tracking?

Well I read the chart on the shelf and it said that all Omegas use DIII (or D3 if you like) except for Diesels which use the DII (D2).

Result: Topped it up and the whining has gone.

Must keep my eye on it incase there's a leak.

Thanks for that, looks like the level is low then. Can we use any power steering fluid, or is there a special one or any we should avoid?

Is the reservoir the black cylinder with the screw top on the passenger side of the engine? I've looked in there and I can see fluid but it doesn't touch the plunger in the middle of the cap, would a low level cause the whining?

I don't seem to have any leaks, it's clean underneath the car.

lol, I know all about whining wives!

When I do a sharp turn in my Omega I get a whining noise from the front end which continues for a while after. It's only when I do a sharp turn, does anybody know what this could be? Is it the steering?

Thanks for the help guys, what I can say is, there are no signs of oil in the water and there are no signs of water in the oil, I'd say I lose about a quarter pint of water per week.

I had the Coolant Level warning displayed when I got in the car this morning and when I checked, the water was down to the bottom of the tank. I've noticed I've been having to top it up every week recently. I've checked the oil and that is fine, there doesn't seem to be any evidence of it leaking from the filler cap. How can I find where it's leaking from, are there any common places?

Follow up: It gets stranger. I went back to pick the car up, the engineer showed me the rear pads that he'd replaced, they were wafer thin, absolutely at the limit. He showed me the front brakes, the pads were ok but the funny thing was the sensors were not connected, they were just hanging loose! Now, how come I got the warning if they weren't even connected and the other funny thing is now he's replaced the rear brake pads the warning doesn't appear anymore! Anyway I'm happy now and he changed the oil and filter at the same time.

Thanks, once again I get the impression the garage can't be arsed changing the sensors so they just say the fronts are ok. I'm trying to avoid using the main dealer because their quote for changing all the brake pads and doing a full service was £472 (it was over £200 for doing the brake pads)!!

Omega General Help / Brake pad warning

The bake pad warning is showing on my display so I took it to the garage this morning to check out and change if necessary. I've just phoned the garage and he says only the rear pads need changing and the warning may still come on because the sensor is on the front and those pads are ok! Anybody else had this problem?
