the engine light only comes on for a second,can i still do the paper clip test?

my tank is never less than half full,say i pull out of a junction in first i lift off the throttle to change to second as i put my foot back on the accelerator the car will just shut off,eml will come on so i take my foot off the accelerator and back on and itll kick back in,i heard about something to do with some kind of sensor on the accelerator??? fly by wire??

hi i have an 1998 omega 2.5td,the problem is when im driving and lift off the accelator to change gear the engine cuts out and managment light will come on for a second if i give the accelerator a little pump it kicks back into life and the light goes out,please help its doing my head in, had this problem for years now
