Its been moved to a flat part of the drive, and is starting no problem at the mo.  The can was just to get it going and get it up the drive.  Sorry, didn't read all of your post properly, or didn't take it all in anyway, but I'm sure you're spot on.  Will check the filter, and go from there.  The seals you refer to, are they part of the injector, so the whole injector needs replacing?

Result, more or less!  Can of diesel on bonnet, clear line to injector pump, after a bit of cranking, engine stared and ran, not probs.  Drove onto flat area, (was nose up on steep drive) reconnected fuel line, revved nuts off for a bit, and starts and runs no problem.  What do you reckon?  Injectors not shutting or something?  Can you fit a non return valve in the fuel line?  Whats the best method of finding air leak in fuel line?

I think the thing that was confusing the old man was in the handbook there is a picture of a car with a spanner through it, that should come on for a couple of secs when ignition is turned on, and relates to the immobiliser, engine electrics and exhaust electris I think, but this doesn't light up, so thought immob was having a fault.  No electric on engine as such, and none on exhaust, so maybe this one isn't used?  Thank you all for all the suggestions and help, he's a happy bunny again!

Is there a haynes for anything that has the 2.2dti in it?

Was lovely here in Norfolk, out in T-shirt til about 2, then started getting cold.

Has anyone tried anything like http://www.whichmanuals.com/Cars/Vauxhall/Vauxhall-Omega-Workshop-Manual.html?osCsid=f24298a90d4b0850d4c0c555c6a0fdb0, what do you think?

Cheers, might be getting confused, was told it was a common rail diesel, take it that its not if the injection pump is run off the crank.  Can't find a haynes for it either, what manual would you recommend?

Worth a try, but I've never had a diesel that wouldn't start eventually even if all the glow plugs have had it.  Nor one with an air leak that wouldn't pump it through eventually.  We've tried over and over to get it going incase it was fuel leaked back (parked nose up on hill), but spose we'll have to tow it onto the flat and have a go.  Should the fuel pump start with just the ignition on to pressurise the pipes?

Hi, my Dad's just bought a 2.2dti omega estate, which went fine for a couple of weeks, now just turns over and won't start.  Everything else looks fine, no fault codes etc, just sounds like theres no diesel getting to the cylinders.  Was told that there is a pump in the tank that should start up when you turn the ignition on, but can't hear any noise from that area.  Does this sound accurate?  Took the boot carpet up, took off an inspection plate, and found 5"ish round bit with fuel flow and return, and four pin connector, but all looking a bit rusty so didn't want to disturb without a bit of advice.  Cheers

Omega General Help / 2.2 DTI wont start, which fault code reader?
« on: 28 February 2010, 19:09:03 »
Hello all.  Trying to find a solution for my Dad.  He recently bought the nicest car he's had in his life, 02 or 03 (i've forgotten) 2.2dti Omega, and after a couple of weeks it just refuses to start any more.  Engine turns over fine, but doesn't sound like theres any deisel getting to the cylinders.  Wondered if anyone could tell me the connection(? ODB2?) or suggest a standalone FCR (for prep) that will work on it, obviously as cheap as pos.  Most seem to say they only work on post 2004 diesels.  Links to ebay would be hugely appreciated.  Or if its in Wilco or Halfords.  Cheers

Hi all, hope you don't mind, I don't own the Omega, its me Dad's.  I've had an Astra 1.7td, cavalier 1.6 petrol, carlton 2.3 TD and an HC Viva 1300e that never made it back onto the road, so hopefully you can forgive me this.  Live in Norwich area, so please forgive the farmers son upbringing (he wasn't a farmer, near enough but without the money), it was all make do and mend.  Am a gas, oil, plumbing type engineer (sound posh don't it), but too honest to make a fortune out of it.  Have wife and three boys who are all being tought how to identify a hairdressers car at 100 paces (the boys, not the wife, all she's interested in is what colour it is).  My ideal car would be an HC viva with the 2.3 slant four in it, or a 3.9 rover V8.  Unfortunately at the moment I've got to get rid of the carlton since its rotting away, and have bought a 2.5 v6 mondeo (don't slap me) for a laugh ::)  Any insults will be taken in good humour...
