Omega General Help / Re: Auxiliary electric waterpump, MV6 -95
« on: 07 October 2011, 22:04:52 »
The temperature is more stable now. And it was so even before, with the old radiator. I think that had something to do with the colder temperature now in autumn.
The old radiator probably was a bit clooged so during hot summer it got to hot.
Guess I'll see next summer if it works better with the new radiator...

Thanks for all help you guys.

Hello...again

This weekend I've changed the radiator. Before, with the old one, a fan and the auxiliary pump always started running after I've turned the car off.
But now with the new radiator It never starts...  So, Is this normal behaviour?
Should the auxiliary pump only start when the engine is really hot and you turn the car off??

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Type of lamps in Instrument panel
« on: 21 November 2010, 17:59:01 »
Hello

What are the lamps in the instrument panel called?
There are 2 types, one bigger and one smaller.

I'm thinking of changing them to LED's

No I dont think I could get my hands on a infrared thermometer.
But the radiator is almost the only thing I havent changed yet...
And since it did work during winter?? Maybe I should change it...
I thought that maybe one of the cylinder heads was cracked? So that pressure from the engine leaked into the water. Messing with the flow of the water.
I've tested the compression, and it was roughly the same on all the cylinders.
I think I'd rather buy a radiator than "dig" my way down to the cylinder heads again  :(

No I dont think its the thermostat, thats been changed recently. As for the headgasket.
I changed the headgasket last autumn because I had big trouble with the engine temp.
The temp was fine during winter, but this summer its the same thing with the engine temp???????? Why?
I thought it could have something with the auxiliary pump...

Hello
I have reason to think that the irregular engine temp (that my engine suffers from) has something to do with the auxiliary waterpump.
I'm talking about the electricpump on the radiator.
I've heard from a mechanic that its purpose is to circulate water in the radiator, to help the mechanical pump.
And if it brokes it could affect engine temp...
When I tested the current to the pump it was only about 0,2 volt! That was with the engine running, a warm engine.
So what tells the pump to run, is it controlled by watertemp or should it run all of the time?
Where should I search the reason for error??
I've tested the pump, it runs when you give it current directly from the battery.

Omega General Help / Pressure in the Expansion tank
« on: 12 February 2011, 22:02:07 »
Hello

Is it normal that the water bouble's up when you lift the cap to the expansion tank, if the engine's hot and the engine is idling?
Its like some kind of pressure in the system?
Can it be air in the watersystem...?

I thought I would shine some more light in this subject:

Today I drove the same road as I did the other day when it was overheating.
But today the temp was ok!!! It was steady, about 92°.
The same road, one day its overheating so you can barely drive it. And another day its all ok...???

So what gives, how can it be...   Airbubble, is it a crack in the cylinderhead or what??

What I've forgot to write earlier is that the heater matrix is clogged, I will change that this weekend.
But that couldn't have anything to do with the engine temp, could it?

I'm not sure what you mean by heater, what is that?

I'm from sweden you know, technical words can be hard to understand in english... ;)

Waterpump - Yes, it looked OK, and felt ok. I took a look at it when I changed the headgasket.
Radiator blocked - Well, I havent checked it. However I could clearly feel the water flowing through it when I opened the expansiontank cap, after it was overheating.
So it can flow some water if it is blocked.
Thermostat - was changed last winter, and it looked pretty clean when i looked at it before putting the engine together.

Omega General Help / MV6 running hot
« on: 02 November 2010, 18:44:14 »
Hello

My Omega is running hot when you drive.
It seems to be some conflict with pressure!?
The other day when i was out trying it, the temp. went up above 100° and almost to red!
I stoped the car and opened the cap to the expansion tank, some water pushed out. But after I've opened the cap, water began to flow through the radiator...

This symptom with the car going hot is something that began last winter.
Someone told me then that the Headgasket was blown...
So this summer/autumn I've replaced the gaskets. Hoping that will fix the problem...
But it hasn't!

So what can cause my car to overheat???

I FOUND IT!!!

It was hidden behind the engine!  ::)

Now there's only two more screws then I can finally see if the reassembly was a succes or a failure.
If the engine starts, later, it will be the first time since may.
I miss my car... :)
