Omega General Help / Re: 2.5td Chipping

Does anyone know if the chip man is still doing his thang? I am buying my old td auto estate back.

The m.p.g. of my chipped td is the reason i started the td or v6 thread.
I am probably way off the mark by comparing the car to my previous 406 hdi, but no matter how you drove it, it would always be good on fuel.
My car has a 427 ecu, and is a 'normal' chip as far as i know, as i thought the mad man chip would cause me to drive like a lunatic.
But due to the low down laggy nature of the engine, i feel i sometimes have to give it some to get it moving.
I drive a vw caddy tdi van everyday, and its how a td should be, responsive low down, but as i say, i am probably expecting too much from the omega.

I will have another go at it tomorrow. Is the glovebox easily removed? And is this the way to change the motor if req?

Thanks for the reply's. The fan didn't work when i bought the car, but i moved the blades manually with a screwdriver and it came to life. However, whilst working on the car today, i noticed the passenger carpet was damp, so i may have a water ingress issue.
I moved the blades again today with a screwdriver, and it span a quarter of a turn, and then stopped again, and doesn't spin freely.
Also, the car has been stood for a couple of months due to a gearbox issue, so the water ingress problem has more than likely caused an issue with the fan now i think about it.

Not sure which section this should be posted in?
The first problem is the fan motor is seized. I have had a look through the guides but cannot find a "how to" to change the motor.
Secondly, most of the bulbs on the climate control display do not work, how do i go about changing them?
This is on my 96 cdx estate.
Thanks.

Ok i am going to attempt to remove the tc tomorrow and hopefully the car will be up and running again. Does any one have a pic of the oil fill hole location?

Oh BOLLARDS! This is the reason i asked if there was a guide to this conversion!
So if the seal is damaged is it repairable? I would assume then that it could of been damaged on removal of the old box as it took some persuading to get out. What does the seal look like? If its a small thin item then its definately fooked as i found one on the end of the old box!

Well i must admit to my total lack of experience in dealing with auto boxes. So the torque converter is not bolted to the flywheel, as a manual clutch is? I.e. it should be attached to the box and not the engine during installation?
When i removed the old box it stayed on the engine.

Update; i have swapped the bellhousing over and got the ar35 in the car, but i am struggling to get the box bolted up to the engine. I have had 3 goes and there is always half inch gap, either at the top, or on either side. It doesnt help that i am doing the change on my back in the driveway.
Also, where is the fill plug on the gearbox?

Well i have removed the 25 tonight and removed the bell housing. The oil that came out of the box was black. It also lost some oil from the torque converter. When i fit the 35 will i need to add any oil to it before i run it? How is this done?

Omega General Help / Re: TD slushbox getting worse?
« on: 23 July 2010, 23:02:03 »
I have just removed an ar25 from my 82k mile td due to it losing its oil from the bottom cover. The oil that came out was black and as far as i know the units are sealed for life so i would say that it is goosed. My car took a few seconds to engage reverse and changed up and down randomly at 50 mph. If its the original box at that mileage i would say its done well.
