General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Thanks all. Everyone's experience is different, we've been expecting mum to go for a while and, in the end, it was a merciful release.

Late to this but sorry for your loss Steve.

…………
The number of times I went to pick up the phone and call him, as was my nightly routine for years, was ridiculous.
…………

Even though I’ve lost both of my parents, I still have their landline and mobile phone numbers in my mobile. I can’t bring myself to delete them.

I am the same,Das been gone 10years ,still got them as Mum and Dad im my phone,Mum is still with us ....just, 95 but failing now ;(

That engine does suffer boost issues sometimes due to the actuator seizing, not easy to get but a liberal soaking with penetrative oil and a lever on the actuator rod often gets them going again

Aye just got the complete arms, just waiting for courage to tackle it now. Wondering if I’ll need the camber bolts too.

Mine came out ok but it's a bit of a lottery as to whether  they do or not.

Ahh a fellow R5 8)👍. I’ve done drop links, next job (when they get a bit worse) is bottom arms! Now don’t tell me that’s going to be easy or I’ll fetch it up to you🤣🤣

One  of the first things I did to mine was lower arms, actually not bad to do and I rebushed my arms. I think I got the bushes from eurocarparts  ,obviously if the ball joint is shagged you are into arms

Wheel bearing and front spring on the Touareg, not nice.

Spring is a bitch, but wheel bearing piece of piss with correct tool which works on the car :y

General Car Chat / Re: Adhesive
« on: 01 May 2025, 13:27:06 »
Looking at my new to me Mondeo grill earlier, I realised that the monkey that removed it from the donor car simply cut through the plastic tabs that secure the grill along the bottom:(  ::)

I'll try to secure it with some self tappers, but if that's not possible I thought I'd glue it in place.

Any recommendations for a suitable adhesive that will withstand heat, cold, wet and vibrations?  ???

Sticks Like Shit sounds good!  ;D

Where did you buy it from? :-\

Screwfix

General Car Chat / Re: Cylinder Head Question.
« on: 24 April 2025, 21:59:04 »
It can't be skimmed. The issue is that no one knows what is an acceptable amount of distortion.

As I understand it, the reason it can't be skimmed is that the head is triangular with the timing cover attached to the block, head and cam covers so any deviation has the potential to make it impossible to reassemble and seal.

They will take quite a few thou, they won't have been made to that level of accuracy in the factory and the gaskets and sealant would take up the delta.
If you can provide the engineering drawings to confirm the factory tolerances then happy days.

Unlike you, I have spent enough years in engineering design to know dam well that the parts on that engine will not be machined to a tolerance that would not tolerate a fraction of a millimetre mismatch. If you were to add up the tolerance of all the mating items they will easily be closer to the 0.5mm level.

As Mark says, any head can stand a 7 or 8 thou skim, let's be honest  here,a new head basically scraps the car when added to the parts list and the new head casting is probably bare so more work/ parts being needed

That injector is very prone to clogging, hence the low exhaust temps, I'd be looking there first

I drove most of the BYD range at the last British motor show expecting them to be shite, surprisingly  they were much better than I expected them to be both in build quality and on the road.how long they'll last is anyone's gues
