must be head gaskets on their way out month

....me too

the rough idle kinda gives it away, as does the back pressure in the header tank.

hmmmm

it would be a shame to scrap it, especially as the body's in reasonably good nick and it has five good (actually four, cos the one is flat) tyres on it

4
oh so it dont have an idle control valve....unless he was refering to the earlier ones...or do they not have them either

...wonder how much i'll get if i wiegh it in for scrap...its an 1800kg car

well well,

i dont think its the HBV.  When i first bought the car, it would run fairly rough from cold and at idle, but the problem seemed to disappear once warm, or certainly less noticeable.

I spoke o a mechanic friend who told me that the idle control valve on the ecotec is a known issue

then the coolant problem (i.e its thrist for coolant even when goin around the block) went from bad to really very bad

and it seems the button on the dash for the remote boot release has packed up

........why me

hence the hysterical and manic laughter

cheers fella

certainly looks like a knuckle grazing job...

i dont recall ever seein any coolant on the drive cos thats one of the things i've been mindful off (i.e is it a leak, water literally disappears, and had been gettin worse over the last few days).

having said that its got the protective undershield and that might look a little....wet shall we say

could get a compression test done it to rule out head gasket, but dont really wanna spend cash on it as it was meant to serve as a run around till finances allowed me to purchase the holy grails of all engines...chevy ls1 and create my own budget vxr8

HBV???

is that something to do with the heater matrix, cos funnily enough the centre left vent blows hot whereas all the others blow cold...very cold

where abouts is that...i aint gotta rip out the dash for tht have i

by the way, i used to live in swindon (worked for honda ege) and i even lapse into a wiltshire accent

...your car looks sweet by the way

the folly that was the £275, 200,000 mile ex mini cab that i bought is now coming to light

when i bought it i was told by the previous owner that part of the reason he was gettin shot of it was that it was losing water.

anyway, after leaving it running for nearly 2 hours, i couldnt notice any water loss.  and after driving it around from cold, the temp gauge wouldnt get to 80 degrees till around 10 mins later.

so i thought its not the head gasket

....well i've realised that it has an appetite for water even if i run it around the block

i've checked the header tank and there is no sign of the dreaded gunge though when evr you open it, even from cold, there always seems to be a pressure build up.

in addition, i've opened the oil filler cap and there is a slight oily whitey residue that wishful thinkn has me put it down to condensation under the valve covers

............oh why oh why did i but it

still the tyres on it are good........

help!!!! :'(

Blimey

never in the field of human cornflakes did I think I a simple hello would yield so many responses

HELLO EVERYONE

....read with interest articles about GM thinkin of dropping the LS1 V8 into an Omega back in 2000, what a car it would've made.....

Hmmmm (the mind starts wondering.........)

i've always liked big vauxhalls, had two carltons.

woulda liked a nice ex cop 3.2 mv6, but am officially poor, so i bought this from a mate

its not too bad for 275 quid, bodywork is suprisingly straight, bumpers have cracked paint, and interior is in good nick.

the idle is very rough, but judging by the posts, looks lke MAF sensor has gone.  last owner changed the cat converter, unless thats got naythin to do with it (lambda sensor)

also, the button for the remote boot release seems shagged

, if job front looks promising then i'll be on the hunt for an ex cop 3.2

somethings effortlessly cool about an ex cop car

hello folks,

just joined the ranks of omega ownership.  paid 275 quid for a 200,000 mile ex mini cab.  i know i'm brave

the 275 quid, 200,000 mile folly that i bought does have 5 good tyres (well 4, 5th is good but flat, might just need some air)
