I did this job yesterday on my 2003 Omega. It is an easy job, following the guides on the forum.

I'd only want to add a suggestion. It is a lot easier to get the dashboard out if you remove the upper cover of the top sterring rod assembly. This is easily done by following these steps:

1. Remove the two screws holding the upper and lower covers together.

2. Turn the steering wheel to the 3 O'clock and 9 O'clock positions respectively. Remove the small covers over the scews. Remove screws.

3. Remove upper cover.

4. With only the narrow cover strip being in the way of the lowers screw holding the dashboard, it should be easy to unscrew.

Yep, thanks to the guidelines on removing door card and replacing central locking motor this job was a piece of cake   :) Thanks guys for writing all the excellent guidelines!!  :y

If I had realised how easy the job is I would have taken the advise to buy the motor at the scrappy  ;)

Problem solved! With a lot of patience and some brute force I finally managed to unlock the door. Now I can go ahaed and change the motor  :D (which cost a horrendous amount at the local Opel stealer  >:( )

Help! I have a major problem.

On my -03 Omega the passenger side door lock motor broke down a few weeks ago. No big problem. A simple job to fix following these excellent guidelines http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152953579/0#0

Today I finally got around to trying to fixi it. To my great horror, I found that the lock is stuck in the extra safety position that bars the lock. This means that it is impossible to pull the knob = the door remains locked = I can't get to the screws holding the door panel = I can't get in to the locking mechanism. Catch 22.

Does anyone know how to get the lock out of the barred position manually?

bad wheel alignment / faulty rear height control (if applicable) can cause vibrations. usually in lower speeds than 80 mph though.

but check the easier/cheaper things first.

why don't you try 105 mph  :y

I hope it's the cam sensor then. I guess the crank sensor is a bit more tricky to change.

I've heard so much about how beautiful it is in Croatia so I figure I need to go down there one of these days. In the Omega, of course  8-)

I'll simply have to go down to the dealer and ask them to read the codes (or try the pedal trick). I hope it'll be a sensor that isn't too tricky to replace.  :)

Does anyone know if the error codes are stored? Or do they need to be read when the engine management light is still on?

I was planning to go to either Croatia or southern France on holiday, but I guess the temperature will be over 25 C down there and the Omega is going to be tired  ;)

Yep ,a faulty sensor seems probable. Are the error codes stored, or can they only be read when the engine management is on?

Thanks for the tip Mathewst!

The engine management light sometimes comes on when this problem occurs, but not always.

It also sometimes helps to switch the engine off and restart it, but it doesn't work every time. But leaving the car for an hour or so usually helps.

Any other suggestions?

Hi all,

my 2003 Omega 2.2 has a temperature related health problem.

In hot weather (outside temp. over approx. 25 C (77 F)) the engine sometimes loses power. It still runs but is very sluggish. Sometimes when this happens, the ECU light also comes on when starting up the engine. But not always.

The same thing can happen also in colder weather when the engine temp is somewhere between cold and normal running temp, i.e. when I´ve driven only short stretches.

The outside temp sensor that feeds the onboard computer gave up a few moths ago, so I fitted a new one. I don't know if the ECU gets the outside temp from the same sensor. Anyway, the power loss problem is still there.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem on my 2.2 lit petrol, although it doesn't occur very frequently (yet) and only for a short period of time. This mostly happpens in hot weather.

Cam sensor the best guess here? Is it placed the same as on 2.0 lit?

It seems like the oil consumption on my meega is on the high end, but excessive then(?) But considering I only have 4 pots and you guys have 6, mine should be drinking less ;)

I agree with you on the 20 k miles service intervals. Mine has also been a lease and fully served at the Opel dealer, even with slightly shorter intervals than that. But it still seems to me that 20k is a loooong time for the oil to stay at top lube condition. From now on, my Omega will get new, yummy oil at least every 10k. It's worth every quid.

Does anyone know if the quality of oil (e.g 0/40W, 10/40W, fully synthetic, semi synthetic...) affects the consumption?

I'll go ahead and do the breather and throttle clean before eating Autobahn in July  :y

How much oil is 2.2 lit allowed to drink before it's considered too much. Mine uses about 1 lit/ 1000 miles. A asked the dealer bu they could oddly enoug not give me a straight answer.

Every now and then I get one of those oil burning exhaust puffs that I so nostalgically remember from my days of driving 70's and 80's Fords. (Yes, I confess. I used to drive Fords. but it's a long time ago and I was young, stupid and poor.)

Are the valve guides known to fail early on the 2.2 lit? Mine has only run a bit over 75 000 miles. Or could it be something even worse, like the piston rings?
