So do standard gutter-mount bars fit as they did on my Carlton? That's hamdy if they do....   ;)
Yep, if they fit a Carlton, they'll fit the meega.

 :y

Time to look for a roofbox now then....  there's not much room for camping stuff in the boot with that gas tank there...  ;D

Omega General Help / Re: Weird LPG /Petrol problem
« on: 04 June 2010, 13:01:09 »
Hi. Yeah it's a multipoint, has got 4 little blue injector things each with a pipe going to the inlet manifold.
The Pitagora box is mounted on the offside suspension turret and the OBDII is in the triangular box near the battery.
So do both these do the same job? Please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm still in the very early days of trying to understand lpg systems  ::) ) but I'd come to the conclusion that the Pitagora emulator was fooling the cars ecu into thinking it's still running on petrol and the OBDII was applying the cars ecu info and adjustments to the lpg system.... As I said please put me right if what I've just said is pure babble.
These are the only additional boxes I've been able to find on the car, I presume there's no other ecu tucked away anywhere as I thought it piggy-backed off the cars original one.

So now on the lookout for an AEB interface lead and software, then I need to work out what it's telling me....  ;D

Jeez.... these litle black boxes... oh to go back to the days of the lovely simple Essex V6's... (Yep, Capri freak from the age of 17... hahaha)   :D

Checked those and all seem fine, well, as much as I can, tricky to get to with lpg stuff there as well.   :)

Ahhh... wonder if it's the vapouriser then... As far as I can make out the system has been in the car most of the car's life (tank is dated 2001) and although mileage is only an indicated 81k I have since found out that this is a teensy weensy bit wrong... it had done 170k in 2008 according to online MOT history!!! Perils of a private sale I suppose  ::) And I have no service history or reciepts at all so the vapouriser may indeed be way overdue an overhaul. Only identification I can see on it is Autogas.
Can't see any id on injectors either, other than they are blue.

When I bought the car in April I was told the lpg wasn't working, he said the tank was full (as substantiated by the 4 green leds on the switch) but engine just dies when it is switched to gas. (Was running fine on petrol I hasten to add and I thought I was buying an 80k mile car... haha)
So I got it home, learned what I could about lpg systems and set about checking basics... Took plastic cover off tank and saw another gauge... yep, you guessed... empty...  ;D  A fivers worth of gas added and it was running on gas... although with a bad misfire... one new set of plugs later and it was fine...
Switch still constantly shows 4 green leds though but I can live with that..   ;D

Other than aircon not working (climate control is all functioning) and drivers seat not getting warm all is ok despite the mega-miles.... (oh, and headlight adjusters)

Time to stop woffling again.... hehe

I have exactly the same problem on mine, runs absolutely fine on lpg but misfires on petrol, not a severe misfire (more of a hesitation) but it is noticeable and the power is down too. It's also a problem when starting as well, especially from cold, will start ok (4 times out of 5) but the idle will quickly die down and will cut out if any throttle is applied. if it's left idling for a few minutes then it can be driven off and switched to gas asap.
The misfire does seem to clear itself eventually if I leave it switched to petrol long enough, once or twice it's done it within 15 mins or so but usually after a couple of days (50 miles or so?)
It doesn't do this everytime I run on gas though, more often than not it's after a single journey of 60+ plus miles, but sometimes it has been fine even after that.

Now this may be a big pointer to those of you who have an idea of what's going wrong... I can tell when it's going to happen because when running on gas the instantaneous mpg reading on the display will suddenly start to show unrealistic figures, virtually double what it normally would be reading (no way in this world will it start to do over 65 mpg at a steady 70mph!!   ;D )
Have you noticed this on your's Richard?

So to my limited knowledge of the little black lpg boxes that are fooling the cars ecu, and confirmed by what has already been mentioned in this thread, this seems to me that yes it is running rich on lpg and the cars ecu is thinking it's leaning the mixture out, which again would give the symptoms I'm experiencing on petrol and the daft mpg figures displayed at times on gas. These figures become much more realistic when switched back to 'misfiring' petrol incidentally.

The lpg system has an AEB Pitagora emulator and an AEB OBDII and as I recently bought the car already converted I have no leads or software (nor experience of lpg) to be able to make any adjustments.
Does anyone know of a reliable person I could take it to in the Leigh/Wigan/Manchester area?

Sorry for woffling on....   :)

Thanks,
    Kev

Omega General Help / Re: oil in plug well

I used a Cif trigger-spray thing, put the tube right down into the well, and squirted it into a Pot Noodle tub...   :)   After eating the Pot Noodle of course...   ::)

Just cured the problem of a misfire on lpg but was fine on petrol
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1272503468
So went for a drive today to see how it went... All was fine on both gas and petrol until I took it on the motorway and noticed the consumption on the computer was showing around 48mpg @ 70mph (flat road, steady throttle) at a place where it usually showed 35mph. This got me curious so I slowed a little and switched it over to petrol and it ran awful, no power and extremely reluctant to go over 3000rpm, switched back to gas and it went fine, albeit with the unusually high mpg reading.
I got to my destination and the engine was stopped for around 30 mins, when I tried to restart (on petrol obviously) it turned over for a long time before it fired and still ran badly. Performance picked up again when switched to gas. Now though for some reason the car is a quite lot more responsive on gas than it had been before (on both gas and petrol) and the mpg on gas is still worryingly high... ie high 60's at 40 mph (again steady throttle and flat road). I say worryingly because it hints to me at running too lean although the temp gauge is at just over 80 at normal running, creeping up to 90 when at lights etc.

Couple of questions.... Can it run lean on lpg without showing any signs of running badly? Can the ecu have configured itself to run on the lpg and this is why it's now running so badly on petrol?
HELP... Please...   :)
Oh yes... don't know if the eml has come on because the bulb now seems to have blown...  ::) Will change it tomorrow....
Cheers,
   Kev

Took the coil pack off only to find plug wells full of oil,

You need to change cam cover gasket and get those breathers clean  :y

Yup, it will have to wait 'til next weekend now though   ::)
Suppose that's one advantage of only having 4 pots... only one gasket...  ;D   That's the only one I can think of though...
Used to have a 2.0 Carlton CDX auto that did a lot more to the gallon than this does, the exhaust is blowing a little at the y-section though, can't see that affecting mpg there but you never know. Anyone any idea on the price of that bit? Seems a strange exhaust system... 1 into 2 back into 1... why?  :-?

Well, went to Vx for a set of plugs, asked the price first of course...  ::) £3.81 + vat each.... GM09s. So I politely said 'No thank you' and went down the road and bought 4 NGKs for £12 (strict budget... ie skint... hehe)

Took the coil pack off only to find plug wells full of oil, as I suspected, pumped it out with a trigger-spray thing then stuffed kitchen roll down to get rid of last bits and cleaned/dried coil pack. Rocker cover gasket will have to wait until next week.
Put new plugs in (old ones seemed fine though...)

Went for a test run, switched to gas and at first it ran worse than before  :'(  but all of a sudden the misfire disappeared and it ran fine  :y

Only problem that is noticeable now is although it will sit and idle fine at around 700/750 rpm if I'm stopped for more than 15/20 seconds and try to pull away as normal it will try to stall unless I blip the throttle first, (only a touch, up to say 1000 rpm and let it drop back down) it will then pull away fine. I'm sure I can live with that for now though.

I must say though that I am very confused that the computer can still tell me my instantaneous mpg etc... how? Surely this is done by the flow being measured somewhere in the fuel line and seeing how the gas is seperate to that how does it do this? Does it make educated guesses from pedal position to road speed?

Cheers
   Kev.

;D A tenner for the four still sounds good, especially if it sorts the problem.
I'll more than likely have to do the rocker cover gasket at the same time cos it is leaking slightly at the rear corner, knowing my luck the plug wells will be full... Only just done the one on my Vectra too... tut....   (Anyone want to buy a Vectra estate? hehe)

Hi all, thanks for the replies  :y

It seems it's GM ones to go for then (especially at £1.20 each... hehe. They that price over the counter at VX dealers?)

My tank is an 80 ltr Icom, so I presume the valve is Icom too, and from what I've found out that company no longer exists... lovely...  but hopefully all seems well at that end.

Under the bonnet is an AEB Pitagora emulator and an AEB OBDII, can't see anything other than Autogas on the vapouriser, not even by taking pics on my phone from as close as practical to it because it's in such an awkward place.

Dates that I can see on things is 2001 so it seems this was converted virtually from new though obviously not a factory job.

Not found any filters to clean as yet but am still searching, got to be there somewhere...  ::)

Cheers,
   Kev

Omega General Help / Best plugs for LPG?
« on: 29 April 2010, 02:11:08 »
Hi.
A couple of weeks ago I bought a 2001 2.2 CD saloon, manual, and LPG converted  ;)
I was told by the previous owner that the LPG tank was full but wasn't working (running fine on petrol though) so I paid accordingly (as if the LPG system wasn't fitted)
The gas/petrol switch inside was showing 4 green LEDs so I too presumed the tank was full and tried to switch it over... it switched over ok but quite obviously was getting no fuel through and would again work fine when switched back to petrol. So with this being the first LPG car I've had I set about learning all that I could about it to help me pinpoint the problem...
A couple of days ago I removed the cover over the multi-valve on the tank to check the operation of the solenoid and  there I spotted another gauge, this one however was showing empty....   ;D
A trip to the garage and 3 quid of LPG later it switched over to gas and ran... Lesson learned there was never to trust a switch that tells you your tank is full....  ::)
Now, although it is running on gas it does have a misfire which isn't present when running on petrol (yet it will idle ok at around 750 rpm) so I reckon my first thing to do is give it some nice new plugs to see if that cures it (fingers crossed).
Can anyone please recommend a set of plugs that doesn't cost the earth that are suitable for a 2.2 on LPG.... :y

Cheers
   Kev
