I'd assumed that the plenum below the bridge is one chamber, directly supplying all six intakes, which receives air only from the first stage of the multiram until the second stage opens. In that case the division wouldn't be doing much. But if the plenum is actually two independent chambers, each feeding all intakes, then bridge sealing would matter! And as mentioned, the main circular seal is vital to keep out unmetered air.
I should have taken the chamber off and looked rather than asking daft questions. Which I'll have to do now anyway to put in a new breather box... if I can find one
