i waited 2 hours for him to come so was more than happy for him to connect me to the back of his van and bring me home. lol but no there was no laptop involved. he scratched his  head and said that it did not sound right,

i have got a new crank sensor to try after work tomorrow as its too dark tonight.

the cam on the passenger side has two markings i have tried both but i get the same outcome. i think it is the water pump bering that has caused it as it has a tiny bit of play in it, i will change it as soon as i know there is no perminent damage done ie valves bent.
i will have to get a manual as i dont know what else to try.

when i turn it over with the key it sounds as though it not firing but i know it is.

The AA said that the timing belt was lose and may have slipped a tooth. I brought a new belt and set the timinig to what i think is right i have managed to turn the engine with a spanner with no problem. but still wont start. there is fuel in the rail and plugs are sparking but all it seems to do is back fire in the air filter box.

thanks si
