Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: CD Changer Problem
« on: 13 September 2008, 13:44:29 »
Hi Please forgive me if this sounds a bit stupid but I had a similar problem with discs burnt from a pc and all it was in the end was that I had burnt them as mp3 when I should have converted them to audio files before burning after realising the error I have never had a problem with playing cdr's in the car. :-?

Omega General Help / Re: Heater Problem.

Came across similar problem in my last elite. Arm had come off flap motor as chrisgixer says is a possibility. Try not to cock up like I did though totally reconnected wrong and had to set controls to footwell to heat windscreen and set to demist to warm my tootsies. lol :)

3.0 Litre Elite manual  ( have had two in last couple of years) both have given low 30's mpg on motorways and mid 20's around town. Pretty consistently. :)

Lost cambelts on previous cars so now I have mine changed every 40,000 without fail. Definately worth the investment. Please don't risk it if unsure of when it was  last changed get it done. Do water pump at same time.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys.
I will check battery output when I can get to see it in daylight.

Car is a 1998 3.0ltr Manual

looks favourite for power sounder issues judging by comments so far.

Hi Guy's & Gal's,

Fitted a new battery in my 3.0ltr Mig last September and new Auxilliary drive belt last month. So felt ok about winter use.

Now today on the way home from work power sounder goes off!!
If I switch off Climate control it silences but as soon as I put it back on sounder alarms again.

Me think's battery is waving goodbye as I have no battery warning light which leads me to believe alternator is working ok.

Car starts fine etc just does't seem to be enough juice going around car to run all the bit's and bob's any suggestions before I go to the VX stealer for a new battery?? any ideas are appreciated. :-/

Omega General Help / Re: tyre noises
« on: 22 September 2008, 22:23:40 »
My last miggy had cheapos on and road noise was noticable. Changed to Nexen's which are still about mid range price wise (£75 each) and road noise was dramaticaly reduced. :)

Ok, I am losing PAS fluid... most definately.

Additionally, when going on full right lock especially, it seems to loose assistance (more than is normal).

Any ideas - knackered pump, or anything else?  :'(

Check the auxilliary drive belt is'nt worn for lack of assistance.
Also check there are no kinks in the hoses before forking out any cash for a new pump.

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 mv6 ex police ? help

I drive a 3.0ltr from Portsmouth to Ayr on a regular basis and generaly make it on a full tank unless I get held up on the M6. Trip is 435miles. So I believe the Omega is economical if not thrashed. I normaly set the cruise control at just on 70 but I must admit that I do these trips as overnight runs so very rarely hit a lot of traffic.

Omega General Help / Re: Battery Prices "How much"
« on: 31 August 2008, 13:37:46 »
Went to VX dealer in Portsmouth last week and they knocked me back £70 for a genuine battery for my 1998  3ltr saloon. Tried Halfords and a few other local motor factors first but no one could do a decent battery for a better price than VX.

May seem a bit expensive but worth it.

Omega General Help / Re: Cam belt kit (anyone know this brand )
« on: 31 August 2008, 14:43:05 »
My advice would be to stick to VX genuine parts. Also wise to take engine number with you when ordering the kit.

I recently bought a 3litre Elite and got the cambelt changed as the one on there when I bought the car looked rough even though I had a reciept stating that a new one had been fitted.

Got it fitted by a vauxhall trained mobile mechanic who works on vauxhalls only (he charges on average half the price of the main dealer). He told me the reason the one on there was rough is because it was rubbing on the mounting bracket and I was with him when he removed them and they were well shot away.

Aparently there are 4 different types which is why you need to have your engine number when ordering the parts.
