Andy, your ref,was bang on,what Idid,nt. do was to take grommet completely out, only looking via torchlight, therefore did not see the filter arrangement inside grommit, will now take further steps.(remove and clean).
 many thanks for replies. :y :y :y

Hi noel, yup took filter out,but what is confusing,is the fact that the drainage hole was blocked off with the grommit,
having partially removed grommit, poured water down into
cavity all drained away no problem, but should the grommit :-? go back??

decided to check drainage hole under windscreen scuttle,

then rememberd,some one,saying there are two.(2).
(1)drivers side,(1)passenger side.checking passenger side,
only deep cavity?delving further, into this,I found (2)rubber grommets.(1)carrying the loom to who knows where, the other one, simply sealing the cavity.so that any water running into cavity had nowhere to go??anyway I half removed the grommit to allow any water,to drain away.
This of course after cleaning cavity out.should I replace
the grommit ??. my car is elite 98, 3.0 Ltr. :-? :-? :-?
