General Car Chat / Re: I've been offered that Alfa 156 again.

No sillyspeed on the v6 - normal 4 speed auto. Selespeed was for the 2 litre 4-pots and, as stated above, was a robotised 5 speed box and clutch. A slightly different version of the Selespeed was available on the 3.2 GTA, but the standard Selespeed is very sensitive to calibration/adjustment, lots of problems I believe if the clutch actuating rod length is not spot-on.

A good indie, such as The Alfa Workshop or Autolusso will charge about £450-£500 for belt and tensioners, worth getting the plugs done as well, about another £60. Needs a locking tool as it's very easy to get the timing off by a tooth or so, a bit of a PITA I believe as access is not brilliant.

As a recovering previous Alfa owner ( 2x 164 v6's, 2x 156 v6's :)) some observations; all my Alfa's were reliable and never needed anything other than routine servicing (unlike my miggy >:() - my '98 156 v6 had done 150,000 miles and ran beautifully.
However, best buy from an enthusiast/owners club member, these cars need to be cherished and pampered, FSH is essential. Cambelts MUST be changed every 60,000mile or every 4 years, together with tensioners - also make sure the water pump has been changed to a metal impeller one rather than the standard plastic. Suspension arms and bushes never last long. Never had a problem with electrics - all the toys on my '96 164 worked, even the heated seats and folding mirrors!
Would avoid the auto - the 2.5 v6 needs to be worked and it's worth it to hear the Busso v6 at 7,000rpm - automotive porn with a decent S/S exhaust!
Couple of cheeky pics of my old ones;

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / WANTED: FL estate aerial lead
« on: 28 September 2014, 20:06:00 »
After yet more grief with my 2002 estate's aerial gubbins I'm after the patch lead that goes from the HU to the driver's kick panel. It's the FAKRA type that looks like this:

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: MV6 estate aerial connection
« on: 20 January 2013, 11:31:48 »
The lead I got from ebay has a female DIN connector, so the new aerial lead fits OK. It's the FAKRA bit that doesn't fit the original Omega lead.

The ebay FAKRA connector is on the right in the picture below, and the FAKRA connector from the original Omega aerial is on the left. They both look similar (whatever they are, male or female) but they are slightly different sizes. They both had a blue plastic connector sleeve around them. Looking on Google it seems that there are colour-coded FAKRA connectors, and I'm just wondering if the Omega one is specific to Vauxhall :-\

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / MV6 estate aerial connection
« on: 19 January 2013, 10:30:40 »
OK, so I got tired of the aerial on my 2002 MV6 estate hitting the tailgate spoiler (it hasn't got the little Prodrive ball) and decided to change the aerial.

I got an amplified sharkfin type aerial:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150857761362?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649, but the problem is connecting the aerial's DIN-style connector to the Omega's FAKRA connector.

This is what I've got at the mo; the original Omega FAKRA connector is at the top of the pic above the DIN-style connector and the power feed for the new sharkfin aerial.

I tried getting one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250914907576?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 but the FAKRA connector doesn't fit. >:(

After Googling the different types of FAKRA connectors I am now thoroughly confused ??? Can anyone tell me which sort of FAKRA connector I need?

Cheers

Pete.

Omega General Help / Bike rack advice needed
« on: 03 April 2011, 15:21:34 »
Can anyone recommend a high-level bike rack that will fit on the tailgate of my MV6 estate? A lot of the ones I've looked at say they're not suitable for vehicles with spoilers.

I've already got 4 bikes on the roof(! :o) and need to get a 5th on the car somewhere!

The car hasn't got a tow bar and I don't want to use a carrier that's going to obscure the number plate 'coz I'll have to get a lighting board then.

Any suggestions anyone?

Newbie Welcome Area / Newbie checking-in!

Hi all,

Came across this site while searching for an Omega estate.

Currently got an Alfa 156 sportwagon, which is getting a wee bit cramped for the family, luggage and bikes!

Hopefully will soon find a suitable Omega (one in the classifieds looks ideal :y) and look forward to using the site.

Regards

Pete.

Hi Fezzy,

Thanks for the offer but I'm really after an Elite or possibly an MV6 (fancy a bit of luxury after my Alfa!), both of which are proving frustratingly elusive at the moment! >:(
