i hadn't heard about that  i just remember getting calls off irate customers who's insurance companies wouldn't recognise the thatcham certificate if the vehicle could be self started , even after the engineers had advised them of this fact lol

The story went along the lines of a guy in the pub was playing with his car keys at the bar which then started the car outside which was in gear and shot across a car park at a rate of knots and killed someone.

Late 90`s ?

 

If the outcome hadn't been so tragic i bet that would have been hilarious to witness , the insurance claim form would have made interesting reading for a start

the company was called Hyde Park Corner , they got the main contract then subbed the work out for anywhere outside the northwest , especially all the thatcham stuff , it was when Clifford were doing the remote start thatcham cat1's that invalidated themselves by self starting lol

i used to work for the main company halfords chose to install all stereo's and sat  navs etc , my job was co-ordinating the instalation engineers nationwide and i saw your signature and just wondered if it was a really small world and if you were one of the guys we used to call

me thinks i have been lucky so far then as i drive it pretty hard  from queen to the prodigy it all goes full volume , i'm wondering if someone has already been playing with it as going off inf recieved i should have completely blown the whole lot by now  quick question by the way dave , did you ever fit stuff for halfords customers down your way ? many moons ago now

i just removed the old head unit and slapped the new one in to be honest , everything works fine , i'm getting active bass etc and the speakers won't go as loud as i'd like so i'm presuming its running through the bose system , its definately got the grills etc with bose on and there is some gubbins up under the parcel shelf which i presumed to be the amp etc . you've got me wondering now  :-?

thanks kevin  i'd love to replace the whole system but thats got to go on the back burner at the moment as i'm looking into another omega related enterprise ( think i might be getting the car bug lol ) ,

wasn't aware of the 2ohm issue either so thats going to be a big help , i always thought car speakers etc ran on 4 , so 2ohm tweets with a little OE added to it ,followed in a year or so by a complete replacement . is it a difficult job to junk the BOSE stuff ? :-?

yup , bose , i was led to believe that the tweeters aren't bose though ? apparently they left the standard tweets in someone once told me , ive had them off but cant see a makers mark , if i have to i'll just liberate purchase one from a scrappers but would be nice to upgrade them lol

hi guy's , does anyone know who makes aftermarket speakers that fit into the original locations with no mods ? my drivers side tweeter has been playing up for a while and i'm thinking of just upgrading the pair as i've treated myself to an alpine x305 head unit and i'm really noticing the difference in sound more than ever now . i know i can compensate using alpines expensive little box of tricks but i'd rather just get new tweets  .

Classic ABS ECU fault .. been there got the t-shirt 

3 options for fixing ..

1) breaker for a replacement .. MUST be the same engine/gearbox/model year or it will need configuring with a tech2

2) new from Vx - requires sale of body parts to raise the cash, and needs a tech2 session to configure
3) repair. I had mine done by BBA Reman. Sent on monday back friday £130 + 2 year warranty. I was very pleased with them, a few folks not so pleased. Does not need a tech2 as it belongs to the car.

Fiddly but not difficult to remove, car can be driven without the ECU but I wouldn't advise it. VERY fiddly to replace as working blind, but if I can do it, anyone can !!!

go on , whats the damage for a new unit lol just to make me feel better as i need a good laugh

aarrgggggggggghhhhhh  followed by arrrrgggggggg  , did i mention i'm well peeed off i love my stealth bomber but i'm gettin miffed with the downtime , seems like every week its something else , i don't mind the cost and i kinda enjoy the fiddling about but nothing is ever simple lol  time to ask the mrs if she's using both kidneys i guess

sounds like the abs ecu is up the creek.

now why did i know you were gonna say that  are they worth fixing or will it just go again do you know ?
