Just finished changing leads and that seams to have solved the problem.
In the end I found the problem on no 6 cylinder, the insulation around the plug had split (clumsy mechanic when changing plugs on service?) and was arcing to head.
Now runs like dream, but have yet to get her hot and on a motorway.
A few tips for changing leads yourself. If you buy aftermarket leads they don't come with shielding, so cut mine off originals and resecured with straps. try and be left handed. Do buy plasters. Remove wiper motor, comes out quite easily and provides plenty of room - but mind the breather on top of heater valve, probably expensive and difficult to replace if damaged. If you find yourself with a breater pipe over - don't worry it is a gearbox breather and doesn't attach anywhere (thanks to the guys who answered my cry for help inside 5 minutes!).

Omega General Help / Spare Pipe HELP!!!!!!
« on: 24 August 2010, 17:53:58 »
Okay just spent half the day fitting new leads to the V6, found the short on no 6, it was the cap shorting next to the plug - no wonder I couldn't see it.
Put everything back together and I have a spare breather pipe which I can't find a home for. It doesn't belong on the back of the plenum - it's about 1cm diameter, thick walled, shiny,  rises from deep behind the engine centrally above the bell housing, no part number in it, no clip. The natural bend on it makes it look like it wants to live around back of left cylinder bank.
Just dimantled everything again and still can't find anywhere to put it.
I removed the wiper motor wonder if I pulled it off then when trying to wiggle assembly out?
Going back out for another look, but am starting to reach limits of patience, so may wait for results of combined forum wisdom

I'll buy the plasters - I paid to have the DIS changed, seemed like a worthwhile cost.

Thank you everyone, unanimous then! I'll order a new set of leads and see if I can get my ex large hands over the back of the induction manifold to fit them - any tips?

Omega General Help / engine stutter
« on: 17 August 2010, 11:47:26 »
Hi, having misfire problems with my 2.5 V6 ........... can anybody help before we try taking it on holiday to France!
Originally had misfire once engine was warm, replaced DIS - better, replaced Air mass meter - much better and runs well most of time except when on motorway when, as I try to accelerate the engine seems to stutter, almost as if TC is kicking in or as if gearbox can't make up it's mind about changing up - stutter is accompanied with some vibration, idle then becomes a bit lumpy. Once cool and back on local lanes she runs like dream. Local garage can find no fault codes and have had it on diagnostic machine without result. Plugs recently replaced.
Any suggestions? my next move is to fit new leads but thought I would look for collective wisdom of forum before throwing any more money at car.

Hi, just joined forum myself and yours is first post I've read - and I can be of help.
I'm 6'6" tall and have a Omega Estate for that reason. I carry most of my hieght in the body and still fit in comfortably with an electric sunroof and with the seat a couple of stops of fully back.
Incidentally, if you ever need a small car, my wife has a 2 year old Punto which has an extraordinarily good driving position for tall people........if only the seat would go back another couple of inches!
