General Discussion Area / Engine courier
« on: 04 February 2016, 16:23:13 »
Hi chaps
Can anyone suggest a good and reasonably priced courier that would deliver engine. I need to arrange transportation for v6 24v 3.0 Renault engine and gearbox from Southwell to Brighton. If my boot was like in omega - i would just go and pick it up, but damn merc 126 has very large boot, but small boot opening, so that v6 wont fit. Or if anyone will be travelling by that route and happen to drive omega estate - will be more than happy to pay the chap.

Cheers

Anything in 50-60 mile radius?

Depending on price might go further

Hi there chaps - could someone please move this to wanted parts area - inquiring fro options.

My dad needs to shift an omega with knackered alloy wheels - not deemed economically repairable.
What He needs is a set of 4 wheels with tires ( could be steels as well) as long as these are true and have at least 2mm thread - ( one way trip of around 1 600 miles). Preferred area - wood green, london or anything not too far or possibly Brighton area.

As said not fussy about the state of rims, as long as its cheap - On the other end of the trip is Me, and I have 2 sets of 16 inch wheels with good tires.

Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Omega T-reg 2.0 16v starting problem

Hm ok fair enough - previously I had cam sensor failures twice ( all on different omegas 2.0 - had probably 7 or 8 of them over the years) and failure had never present itself in this particular way - always had rev limit to 4000rpm and MIL on.. If you say cam sensor failure on these can represent itself differently - fair enough. I was considering crankshaft sensor to be at fault.
I think I have a spare cam sensor in my garage to test. Will see when will I got the time for it as its a b*stard to get at.

Wouldn't think so as it happily revs to 6000 rpm and from cam sensor it wouldn't stall or make it difficult to start.

Hi
My dad has some troubles with his omega. It requires 10-15 sec cranking 90% of the times he tries to start it. No error codes are stored ( or at least visible with paperclip test). Additionally from time to time it will cut-out at idle while driving ( only when its not up to its running temperature). Again there will be no errors stored. Otherwise it has its full power and as smooth as it should be ( well for a 4 pot at least).

Any Ideas???

Omega General Help / Re: Starter???
« on: 08 February 2015, 15:32:26 »
Remembered that I have another starter from omega A ( Carlton), that is 100% same pattern as x20xev. Just to confirm and answer my own post for future references of other members: NOT COMPATIBLE

Possibly could be modified to fit with grinder  ;D but doesnt really worth the hassle.

Omega General Help / Starter???

Hi chaps

Quick question - would v6 started fit on 4 pot petrol. My starter is tired and would like to recondition it, but in the meanwhile to still be able to drive the car. I have a spare good starter off a v6 x25xe manual.

So - would it fit on x20xev auto?

Hi chaps
Could someone move it to wanted area.
I am looking for a FAILED pump or just the failed EDC to dig into to see If my skills are sufficient to mend it. I know the theory behind it, done similar jobs before, but not on this particular pump. If I make it work- would be more than willing to help out fellow members to get their omegas going for longer as I love them things.

Would have to be sent to Guildford - happy to pay for the postage.

P.S. If someone happen to have a selection of failed EDC - the more the merrier

Cheers

I know about them guides - that is one of the reasons why i have head for parts. 2 cracked guides + 2 valve seats 2mm further inside head than usual.

3.0 engine sounds interesting. I got another 2.5 coming from UK soon. Very low mileage as was changed by vauxhall 2 years ago for new unit. Will PM about engine. Knowing my dads habit of breaking engines - not bad idea to have one handy for a swap.

In the last 2 years my dad has managed to ruin - 2 x omegas 2.0 8v, 2 x  2.0 16v and now this 2.5v6. last year replaced one engine on 2.0 8v as one valve got loose and went berserk on the piston. Result = bent conrod, piston in million bits and valve impregnated itself in profile in head and piston. Will see where i had taken pictures of that. Had to remove head to inspect during night on a petrol station 200 miles from home ( saturday evening ).Than other 2.0 8v omega 500 miles after was sold on lost oil pressure and engine has seized. Again last year replaced complete engine on 2.0 16v due to broken cambelt - apparently whoever put it last got the direction wrong - wont break soon, but eventually will be eaten away. That is actually where I have head in bits from. last Omega 2.0 16v - my dad bought it, drove it a few hundred miles and engine failed due to possibly oil starvation as it sounds as bag of nuts. Its still on a paid parking in Greece ( i am in bulgaria). Waiting for my father to bring it here at some point this month.

As you can see I really should become Omega breaker in here, as we need parts (engines mostly) on a regular basis.

I have another question: my omega is MFL ( it says 1997 on the windows). It has airbags on seats. Manual v6. I have diff whine as well. Unfortunately i couldn't find anything remotely looking like ID plate on the diff to figure its ratio. Judging by haynes -it could be either 3.9 or 3.7. From what I understand 3.9 is the same as 2.0 16v manual. If so - would it be safe to assume that diff from 2.0 16v will fit and be man enough for v6 2.5?

Hi Guys - just an update from today: total of 8 bent valves. Possibly no damage to seats  as not too bent. All other valves are leak proof - petrol would sit on top of valves for hours.

Here is a few questions:

1. are these valves same size as 2.0 ecotec ( sure looks same - will check tomorrow evening after work).
2. How does one tests lifters as few were noisy. Again will lifters from 2.0 be interchangeable?

Basically I have 2.0 16v head that had same fate as this engine. I have more than enough valves from that head + all hydraulic lifter were ok there.

well is a cambelt. almost got heads out. probably was easier to remove engine as a whole. Apparently cambelt was way overdue( as I suspected). It had cracks in it  :o . Tomorrow will remove heads and assess the damage. from what I could see now - at least 8 valves bent. Possibly way more, but not all. Will get updates later.

Will do as soon as it stops raining cats and dogs outside. But very highly unlikely as its only 1-2 month old genuine Siemens.

Omega General Help / v6 engine
« on: 04 October 2013, 00:08:26 »
Hi chaps

Today is deffo not my day. My dad took my v6 2.5 omega AGAIN for a drive. Surprise surprise - some time later he calls to be recovered from 80 miles away as it has stalled and would not restart. Someone looked at it and suggested cambelt snapping. Came in the other car furious as I had ordered cambelt kit and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow (v6 uncommon here - have/had to wait for a week). So just towed it home as it was becoming dark outside in rain with virtually no breaks and for some reason on car that was towing stoplights refused to work. Scary experience. Anyway couldnt check myself anything, but trouble codes (paperclip). Besides normal v6 codes it had 89 and 94 stored. So from 94 i am assuming Crankshaft sensor gives signal, but cam does not?

Bottom line - I know all v6 this age are compatible (obviously one will have to change some aux. equipment and possibly rocker covers/inlet pipes). BUT i can get a cheap v6 2.5 engine from calibra with engine type C25XE. What about this engine?

Alternatively i am opened to offers for v6 engine near Brighton area or possibly Guildford.

Cheers
