Omega General Help / code 57 idle air control
« on: 05 September 2010, 15:58:58 »
hello again, i have a new intermitant fault on my 2.5 cdx.

when the engine is cold every thing is fine, but after its warmed up you can be slowing down for a roundabout and the engine stops (on a auto this is a pain),
you can restart straight away for it to happen again (usually 4 or 5 times) then it runs fine again for say 30 minutes and then it will stall again for another 4 or 5 times.

i have done a paperclip test with the engine running - all i get is error code 57 - idle air control (fits in with whats happening).

am i right thinking that this is the silver cannister on the passanger side of the plenham, it is seated correctly, any idears ?

thx

Omega General Help / Re: untraceable oil leak

the first two times i done the rocker gasket i had real problems getting it to sit properly - 2 reasons the first is that i didnt like the look of taking out the wire loom that runs over the left bank, second was the junk gasket from EUROPARTS, this is probably why i had to do it all for a 3rd time before i got it right.

on the third attempt i took out the wire loom, it made a huge difference on getting the rocker cover in the right position without disturbing the half moons while fitting.

took the car out today for 15 miles around country lanes (living in wales thats all there is anyway  ;D ), not a single leak has shown - still getting the smell of burnt oil but thats to be expected - so it looks like there was a puddle of oil somewhere that has now burnt/spilt away.

many thanks to all.

what was said about the gasket -
the one i got originaly had like a 4mm bottom edge that goes onto the cylinder head, the gasket also has to go around the plastic half moons, this one was total rubbish.

the new ones only have a 2mm edge that moundt onto the head and the half moons are built into the gasket -  dont know if these are vx original but they work a treat compaired to the other ones.

there was so much oil spilled from before that i am hoping its just a puddle that is being burn off - ill monitor the oil over the next few weeks and see what happens (oil change due very soon anyway.

on a different forum i was told to see if the breethers were clear that if you place your hand over the filler hole there should be a slight vacuum, if it sucks hard then the breethers are blocked - on my car there is a slight bit of positive pressure, so i am guessing this is a good sign.

any more idears ?

many thanks to all.

Omega General Help / untraceable oil leak
« on: 02 September 2010, 00:04:39 »
hello,

heres a run down of my problem.

1.. oil leak from rocker gaskets (v6)

replaced the gaskets over the weekend, come monday the passanger side gasket had blown again.

after finding this forum and a bit of reading i realised that the crankcase breather was the problem, so cleaned them out and fitted a new rocker gasket again.

started the engine and everything was ok .. drove the car and after a left turn - smoke under the bonnet (oil on exhaust) and oil running down the passanger side of the bell housing.

turn engine off, wait a few mins and restert engine and there is no leak. took the car to my boys garage and borrowed there ramp, 3 of use could not locate a leak of any kind.

on the way home i hit the motorway doing a steady 70 mph for about 10 miles - still all ok.

i get home and do a left turn - smoke from under the bonnet again but no oil running down the bell housing.

this is really frustrating as i need the car as the nearest shops are 10 miles away, i cannot find this leak which only happen on left turns  >:(

could it be a puddle somewhere which runs onto the exhaust (from before the gasket and breather were sorted out) ?

any idears ?

thx
