Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Blower replacement
« on: 17 December 2009, 21:30:17 »
You should not need to remove the blower motor to change the controller, it should pull out from the housing. I had to make a tool from some 15mm copper pipe to pull it though.

Removing the motor is a pain, most of the passenger side air ducting and wiring trunk is in the way.

If you let me have an email address I can send you some pictures, my 03 CDX did not have variable delay or rain sensor, despite the salesman's words.

You will need a circuit diagram to identify the pin in the wiper main connector that needs to be removed, then the variable resistor is wired in series with it.

I have not yet changed the relay so have a slightly limited range of delay timing.

Yes it's possible, you have to arrange the variable resistor to be in series with the feed to the relay. If you have a wiring diagram you should be able to see the wire to interrupt.
I have, somewhere, some pictures of how I modified mine. I will try to find them tomorrow.

If you dismantle the motor you will probably find that one of the microswitches has high resistance normally closed contacts.

Change the switch and all should be well.

Be wary of bending the solder spills on your replacement switch, it seems to shorten the life drastically.

The relays are different part numbers between the non variable and the variable stalks.

After adding the variable resistor to my 2.6 its range of timing is much less then our 2.5 which was built with variable.

When I remember I need to try a spare, older type relay. Not yet looked to see if they are pin compatible but I don't anticipate a problem.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: alternator problem
« on: 03 December 2008, 16:35:34 »
Check your main alternator to battery lead for high resistance joints. Does any part of the cable feel hot?

Try measuring the voltage drop between alternator +ve and +ve battery terminal, that will show up any high resistance in the cable and joints.

If someone sends me an email address, I can post the pictures and drawings from when I converted mine.

Part of the alternator, unless you mean a regulated line for the instruments.

I've had poor quality or misaligned stop lamp bulbs disable my cruise control in the past.

Cheap fix if it is.

That connector was present on my last three omegas, 97, 98, 03 and a 2001 Vectra.

You can connect your car kit straight to it. There are pins for 12V, 12V ign, radio mute, audio in to radio and microphone in the interior light.

The internal mic probably won't work, it's an active device and needs power.

The audio in to the radio will work as long as you have the transformer in the relay panel by the fusebox. Both my 98 Elite and 03 CDX had it.

Somewhere I have the pin assignments, if you need them I'll try to dig them out.

There is a connector taped to the air duct behind the glovebox, it has power, microphone and feed to the radio.

Reverse connected battery could have damaged any unswitched devices, plus if ignition turned on, almost anything. Does not sound good.

Soldering iron, heat shrink sleeving, power socket from Maplin and multimeter to trace supplies.

The pins in the standard connector are identified in the circuit diagrams, if my memory still works.

The phone I wired directly, for the satnav I fitted a socket so I could keep its original cable.

Both permanent and ignition switched supplies are available at that connector.

I took the power for both phone and Tomtom from the standard phone connector that is normally taped up behind the glove box.

You can also use that connector to feed phone audio through the main system and radio muting. There needs to be a transformer, for some reason referred to as a relay, to couple the audio signal. I think it's present in later cars, it certainly was in both mine.
