 >:( head gasket on the left bank doesnt sound good!
is the coolant transfer pipe the one that runs from front of plenum across nearside spark plugs and into the back of the block? if so just been having a lot of trouble with that pipe, it had a pinhole in it and as there was no chance of me changing it once i felt where it goes to on the back of the block i patched it with a puncture repair kit and taped all around the pipe. maybe i have disturbed it whilst doing the work and changing the HT leads??? dont know which way to turn  :'(

no need for a pressure test! after work lastnight i was going to refill the coolant and quickly limp the car home (5 miles) so waited for the traffic to die down poured the coolant in and as fast as i could pour it in the header tank it was pouring out the back of the engine  >:( i can not see where it is leaking from, is it a scuttle off, plennum off etc... in order to see where it may be coming from or with the coolant coming out so fast does that eliminate any other problems??? anyone have any ideas please

Omega General Help / Re: Screen on when car off
« on: 10 February 2011, 16:25:15 »
Hi Steve,
i had this problem on my 98 elite wether its the same issue im not sure but mine ended up being a slightly melted cable that goes to the switch controlling the rear heated screen,it must have been shorting somewhere making the display screen of the trip computer sticking on and off intermittently, sometimes on for hours , i removed the stereo unit found the melted exposed cable (must have melted from the heat off the back of the stereo unit or caught up when the stereo was installed) i cut the melted cable back and re crimped it to the cable coming from the  switch using a crimp and ratchet tool, luckily for me there was just enough cable to get the crimping tool into the area, reconnected and everything was fine. like i say this may not be the case for you but worth a look. good luck hope this helps.

Omega General Help / Re: NOT hg, but..
« on: 10 February 2011, 10:09:52 »
i just had a similar problem, mine was a pin hole in the coolant pipe that runs along the nearside plugs and coolant got into the wells. i changed the plugs and leads on this side and all missfiring went away. however its now leaking somewhere else. so yes albs is right, i took off my wiper scuttle and noticed a previous owner had used a clear silicon to seal where the two parts join. i can see how this would gather water at the plugs.not sure where to get fixed as ive been doing mine myself but struggling too. good luck

i know its harsh on the old girl but just read the link about pressure testing and that all seems a bit much for a car that gets treated better than the wife and does nothing but lets me down. spent a fortune on it since the day i bought it and im not taking all the plenum and things that come off with it all over again and the way im feeling about her now she doesnt even earn to rest at a scrappie. >:(

Omega General Help / coolant problem continues!!!
« on: 09 February 2011, 09:25:54 »
Hi All,
i had a pin hole in the coolant hose that runs accross spark plugs 2,4 and 6. i couldnt get a new hose at the time so yesterday i repaired the pipe with a puncture repair kit and put loads of tape around it, i also had to change the spark plugs and leads as the car was miss firing (coolant in the wells) anyway tried the car, missfiring now gone, pipe seems to be holding the water but got to work this morning (5 mile journey) heard a hissing noise from engine bay and it dumped about a litre of coolant onto the floor. i quickly looked to see where it was coming from but there was no evidence of where it leaked. all i could see was some steam coming from all around the engine block??? by pass valve seems ok, pipe i repaired seems ok, all connections from coolant system that i can physically see seems ok???? may just give her a final drive to the scrapyard but seems a shame as its a good example for the age. just thought anyone may have some ideas for me as im at the end of my tether.  :( :( :(
