Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: aerial coax
« on: 12 January 2011, 12:35:08 »
update, i got the drivers side kick panel off and there was the joint i needed. thought the quickest fix would be to cut the front section there and solder up a joint to extend the coax with new upto the radio. problem was the origional coax would not solder, i guess its not copper wire or it may be plated or whatever: so i ended up splitting the plug / socket and re crimping the front part with my nice new coax. bit fiddly but it works a treat now.

thanks for the help and advice guys

I thought it was the driver's side  :-/ :-/ :-/
I'm sure that someone that actually knows will confirm.  :y

i know some have the joint on the pasanger side because i spotted it on the scrappers facelift model i took my heater blower motor out of but im 100% sure mine not the same.

You should be able to get satisfactory results by extending the coax you have.  Use a decent joiner and crimp it correctly.  :y

that would be my first plan IF i enough coax to get hold of but it means stripping the drivers side dash to find enough slack to get hold of.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / aerial coax

hi,  todays question.......

mini facelift 2.0 gls.

i bought the car with a jvc radio cd player stuck in the dash but not quite 'fitted'. the cd works just fine and even the steering wheel buttons work ok but no radio reception at all so i took it out today to check things out and found the coax has been cut off at some point in its history. the wires too short to even think about joining a new bit onto the end.

i read somwhere on here that there is a plug / socket behind the passanger side kick panel but when i had that in bits the other day i didnt see anything and the coax on mine seems to go off behind the drivers side dashboard so maybe its the later models have the joint on the passanger side?

so....  would it be easier to strip that end of the dash to find where it goes and see if there is a joint along the way or should i just bite the bullet and get the black and decker out and fit a roof aerial?

Now who would have thought of that? nice result, well done..... :y

i didnt think of the a/c switch but i sure wish i had, would have saved wasting hours of good drinking time on a sunday afternoon AND saved me from about 2 dozen cuts and bruises on my hands / arms from all that digging around in the dark sharp dashboard.  :'(

all i need to know now is the location of the blower relay as im almost sure that must be whats stopping it working on the highest setting?

just to update this....

i spent the morning at the breakers and changed the resistor (still the same) :( , changed the speed controler (still the same  :( , (changed the wiring loom from switch to fan (still the same)  >:( , changed every relay i could find (still the same)  :'( , then finaly i changed the aircon switch as mine was a bit worn and as if by magic the fan now works.... well it turns off and speeds 1-4 work at least, no speed 5   ;D .  but having spent most the day on it i was happy to accept that for now.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / heater / blower problem
« on: 07 January 2011, 17:08:43 »
i only got this car last week and the blower was not working.
fitted another blower motor today (found the old one had kaput baerings). put it all back together and the fan works great, heat and demist at last  :y  (is it normal that it only works when the engine is started and not just on ingition switch possition?). now i found that the fan runs on high speed all the time no matter what possition the switch is set to, even when the switch is turned to off. any ideas?

cheers alerton

Omega General Help / heater / blower motor
« on: 04 January 2011, 20:17:11 »
hi, im new to the omega, just got a cheap 1999 2.0l gls to get me to / from work untill my 4x4 gets a new head.

the omegas blower does not work at all on any speed so with the help of a great thread i found here i took half the car to bits to get to the heater resistor and found that mines not like the hedgehog that i seen its more like a tin shroud with coils inside. anyway while i was there i got the wires off and tested the motor, found that its dead, will not work at all not even a buzz or anything. so im guessing thats the reason theres no blowing.

can anyone tell me if they use the same motor for all the production years? my local scrappers got a later omega in but i dont want to spend time stripping it only to find its the wrong shape / size.

thanks and regards

hi guys, im not quite brand new as i posted about the blower motor problems the other day but i guess this realy belongs in here?

i just recently got my 1999 2.0 gls mini facelift omega as a run around and to get me to / from work. well........ on my way home today i popped into a well known burger place for my healthy evening meal.  ;D

i looked and looked all over the car for a cup holder and unless i really need a trip to specsavers i cant find it. i know the gls is only the basic model but even vauxhall cant be that tight with extras can they? where the hell is it hiding?

cheers chaps
